People are sharing stories of family and friends stranded all over the world as a result of President Trump's temporary ban on immigrants.
On Twitter, people posted tales of stranded students in Iran, visitors abroad unable to return home and canceled visits with family.
The executive order signed Friday halts the flow of all refugees into the United States for 120 days, places an indefinite suspension on those coming from Syria and bans for three months residents coming seven predominantly Muslim countries.

Session 16 : Plus ou moins d’État ? More State or Less State? - Aix 2013
6 july 2013 - lesrencontreseconomiques.fr
Globalization and the transition toward knowledge and innovation-based economy have led developed countries to question the old welfare-state model. Neo-liberal economists plead for “less State”, drastic reduction of public expenditures and mandatory taxes, and withdrawal of the state to its traditional prerogatives. Others, notably Northern European socio-democrats and the USA democrat administration, believe that it is possible to reconcile social justice, control of deficits and investments in growth and innovation. More generally what reforms should be implemented to secure a fair and sustainable globalized growth? How to design a fair and incentive tax system? How finally to ensure the continuity of efficient States?

Haben Girma: How did a deafblind woman conquer Harvard Law? | The Stream
In a new memoir, Haben Girma, the first deafblind graduate of Harvard Law School, reflects on her Eritrean-American childhood and journey to becoming an outspoken advocate and innovator for disability rights.
While a student at Harvard, Girma helped develop the digital braille device that allows her to read information typed to her through a qwerty keyboard. Today, she travels around the world to promote a message of inclusivity and shares her life experiences as a disabled person, black woman, and a child of refugees. Girma has received honours from leaders including former US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She has also become one of the leading voices in improving the accessibility of the digital world, where websites and apps are often not compatible with assistive technologies such as screen readers.

A tale of mental illness | Elyn Saks
Is it okay if I totally trash your office? It's a question Elyn Saks once asked her doctor, and it wasn't a joke. A legal scholar, in 2007 Saks came forward with her own story of schizophrenia, controlled by drugs and therapy but ever-present. In this powerful talk, she asks us to see people with mental illness clearly, honestly and compassionately.

Tom Kelley, David Kelley: Creative Confidence | Talks at Google
Tom and David Kelley stop by the Googleplex for a talk on creativity. This conversation was moderated by Frederik Pferdt, Head of Innovation and Creativity Programs at Google. You can find the book on Google Play: .
IDEO founder and Stanford d.school creator David Kelley and his brother Tom Kelley, IDEO partner and the author of the bestselling The Art of Innovation, have written a powerful and compelling book on unleashing the creativity that lies within each and every one of us.
Too often, companies and individuals assume that creativity and innovation are the domain of the creative types. But two of the leading experts in innovation, design, and creativity on the planet show us that each and every one of us is creative. In an incredibly entertaining and inspiring narrative that draws on countless stories from their work at IDEO, the Stanford d.school, and with many of the world's top companies, David and Tom Kelley identify the principles and strategies that will allow us to tap into our creative potential in our work lives, and in our personal lives, and allow us to innovate in terms of how we approach and solve problems. It is a book that will help each of us be more productive and successful in our lives and in our careers.
The Third Industrial Revolution: A Radical New Sharing Economy
The global economy is in crisis. The exponential exhaustion of natural resources, declining productivity, slow growth, rising unemployment, and steep inequality, forces us to rethink our economic models. Where do we go from here? In this feature-length documentary, social and economic theorist Jeremy Rifkin lays out a road map to usher in a new economic system.
A Third Industrial Revolution is unfolding with the convergence of three pivotal technologies: an ultra-fast 5G communication internet, a renewable energy internet, and a driverless mobility internet, all connected to the Internet of Things embedded across society and the environment.
This 21st century smart digital infrastructure is giving rise to a radical new sharing economy that is transforming the way we manage, power and move economic life. But with climate change now ravaging the planet, it needs to happen fast. Change of this magnitude requires political will and a profound ideological shift.

Thorium.
Thorium is an abundant material which can be transformed into massive quantities of energy. To do so efficiently requires a very different nuclear reactor than the kind we use today- Not one that uses solid fuel rods, but a reactor in which the fuel is kept in a liquid state. Not one that uses pressurized water as a coolant, but a reactor that uses chemically stable molten salts.
Such a reactor is called a Molten Salt Reactor. Many different configurations are possible. Some of these configurations can harness Thorium very efficiently.
This video explores the attributes of Molten Salt Reactors. Why are they compelling? And why do many people (including myself) see them as the only economical way of fully harnessing ALL our nuclear fuels... including Thorium.
This video has been under development since 2012. I hope it conveys to you why I personally find Molten Salt Reactors so compelling, as do the many volunteers and supporters who helped create it. Much of the footage was shot by volunteers.

The Stunning Transformation Of U.S. Soccer Player Alex Morgan
Olympic gold medalist and FIFA World Cup champ, Alex Morgan, is likely to go down as one of the greatest U.S. women's soccer players of all time. But just how did she get to this point? From her hustle on the field to facing personal challenges of her own, here's her stunning transformation.
At 7 years old, Morgan fell in love with soccer. And because the sport was important to her, it became important to her dad as well. But he faced a huge learning curve when it came to the game. Alex told The Players Tribune,
[My dad has] always been a baseball guy; he didn’t know the first thing about soccer. But when [I] told him […] that it was important to [me] that he watch [me] play, he got serious. Fast.
When she was 9 years old, her dad became her coach. She told Soccer America,
My mom was always the super positive, supporting parent and my dad was the thinker who wanted me to see how I could make myself better and help the team. But at the same time, he would listen to me when I said I had enough.

Fluoride Ion Battery Research
The chemical element that makes up most of today's batteries, lithium, may soon be challenged by its polar opposite on the Periodic Table: #fluoride. Yes, the same stuff in toothpaste.
Researchers are one step closer to equipping fluoride-based batteries for battle with improvements that allow the technology to operate at room temperature. Up until this point, fluoride had been limited to building high-temperature batteries that are impractical for our electronic devices.
A team of researchers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), the Honda Research Institute, Inc. and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory – including a Caltech postdoctoral researcher who is now an assistant professor at Purdue University – has secured two U.S. patents for the improvements and published findings in the Dec. 6 issue of the journal Science.
