Surajkund is an ancient reservoir of the 10th century located in Faridabad about 8 km (5 miles) from South Delhi. Surajkund (literal meaning is 'Lake of the Sun') is an artificial Kund (‘Kund’ means lake or reservoir) built in the backdrop of the Aravalli hills with an amphitheatre shaped embankment constructed in semicircular form. It is said to have been built by the king Suraj Pal of Tomar dynasty in the 10th century. Tomar was a sun worshipper and he had therefore built a Sun temple on its western bank.

सूरजकुंड (सुरजकुंड) दक्षिण दिल्ली से 8 किमी (5 मील) के आसपास फरीदाबाद में स्थित 10 वीं शताब्दी का एक प्राचीन जलाशय है। सूरजकुंड (शाब्दिक अर्थ 'सूर्य का झील' है) एक कृत्रिम कुंड ('कुंड' का अर्थ है झील या जलाशय) अरावली पहाड़ियों की पृष्ठभूमि में बनाया गया है जिसमें अर्धचालक रूप में निर्मित एम्फीथिएटर आकार की तटबंध है। कहा जाता है कि 10 वीं शताब्दी में तोमर वंश के राजा सूरज पाल ने इसका निर्माण किया था। तोमर एक सूर्य पूजा करने वाला था और इसलिए उसने अपने पश्चिमी बैंक पर एक सूर्य मंदिर बनाया था।

Surajkund 10th Century Ancient Reservoir , Faridabad
This video shows Surajkund 10th century reservoir. As the name itself suggests, it was built in the tenth century by King Suraj Pal of Faridabad. This king worshipped Sun and so made a lake for the Sun God. The word Suraj means Sun and Kund means artificial reservoir or lake. It is an empty reservoir . The entry ticket is INR 25 per head and the parking is free. There is ample parking space to park your vehicle at free of cost. It is situated in the Surajkund Tourist Resort , Faridabad. It had some major repair work done in the year 1920 during the British era. Every year , in the first two weeks of February, there is International Craft Mela that is held here in Surajkund Ground. It takes about 15 minutes to see this place. Do enjoy the video.

ये हसीन वादियां पास बुलाती हैं...ये ऊंची-ऊंची पहाड़ियां मन मोह लेती हैं...और ये गहरी झील जान ले लेती है...जी हां, बिल्कुल ठीक सुना आपने...अरावली की इन खूबसूरत वादियों में पहले आकर्षित करके बाद में मौत देने की घटना एक दफा नहीं, बल्कि कई बार हो चुकी है...फिलहाल ये हसीन वादियां अब ज्यादातर सूनी पड़ी रहती हैं...यहां अब हर कोई जाने से कतराता है...क्योंकि इन वादियों में बनी इस झील में हो रही मौतों का रहस्य आज तक कोई समझ नहीं सका...और यही कारण है अब इस झील को डेथ वैली यानी खूनी झील का नाम दे दिया गया है...

सूरजकुंड इलाके मेंअरावली की पहाड़ियों में बनी खुनी झील में डूबे दिल्ली के तीन युवकों की लाशें गुरुवार को नेवी के गोताखोरों ने मश्क्कत के बाद ढूंढ कर निकाली। बुधवार देर शाम दिल्ली संगम विहार के सात आठ युवक खुनी झील के किनारे पानी में से खेल रहे थे।इसी दोरान एक युवक झील में फिसल गया और पानी में डूबने लगा।अपने डुबते साथी को बचाने के लिए पानी में उतरे दो युवक भी डूब गए।हादसे से घबराये युवकों ने पुलिस को फोन किया।अन्धेरे के चलते पुलिस गोताखोर खाली हाथ लोट गये थे।झील में डूबे तीनों युवक आपस मे चचेरे और मोसेरे भाई थे।
पुलिस के मुताबिक बुधवार को दिल्ली संगम विहार के रहने वाले ऋषि गुप्ता, पवन गुप्ता, अंकित गुप्ताऔर मिलन गुप्ता अपने दोस्तों के साथ आए थे।शाम को नहाने के लिए झील के किनारे बैठ कर पानी से अठखेलियां कर रहे थे।इसी दोरान ऋषि का पांव फिसलने से वह झील में डूबने लगा।उसे बचाने के लिए पवन आगे आया तो वह भी झील में फिसल गया।दोनो को बचाने के लिए मिलन ने प्रयास किया तो वह भी झील में गिर गया।इसके बाद घबराये साथियों ने पुलिस को फोन किया पर तब तक बहुत देरी हो चुकी थी।
पुलिस आने से पहले तीनों की डूबने से मौत हो गयी थी। जिनके शव आज दिल्ली से आये नेवी के गोताखोरों ने निकाले। तीनो मृतक आपस में चचेरे और मौसेरे भाई थे।बुधवार देर शाम हुए इस हादसे की सूचना पाकर पुलिस मौके पर पहुची थी पर अन्धेरा होने के कारण बचाव कार्य पूरा नहीं किया जा सका था।मालूम हो की पिछले महीने भी इसी झील में दो युवक नहाते वक्त अपनी जान गवां चुके है.

Surajkund is situated in Faridabad, Haryana.This is made of stone. It is a water tank, resembling a Roman amphitheatre. It is believed to have been constructed by Tomar King, Surajpal. The shape of Surajkund resembles the rising Sun, curving eastward. Its bed is about 130 meters in diameter. Once it was filled with water, now it is without water.

But beware of looting as it's a secluded place in the forest surrounded by Gurjar Villages ;).

Death Valley is a collection of 7 abandoned mines, which later naturally filled with crystal blue water, in surajkunj faridabad. Being a private property, it has been kept off the radar, from the public eye. Abound with flora and fauna, it also has ruins of historic stuctures goin back to the rajput era. Being toally uninhabited, and far from civilization, it is a total treat for the senses!
It gets the name death valley, as many people have died, trying to venture out into swimming in these lakes. The lakes as beautiful as they seem, are extremely deep, with pointy stones on its floor, so swimming is prohibited
getting to death valley is simple it is apposite to M R I U faridabad . to reach there it is advisable to use a bike as it can go all the way to last lake which is bhadarwaj lake. if you have car instead you can park it in mriu parking and then you can go on foot. to reach there there is a unconstructed road(kacha rasta) on the apposite side of MRIU
as a piece of advice dont get spotted by the local people their as they are unfriendly and violent and may ask for money if caught as it is is prohibited zone. Dont carry any eatables because there are hell lots of monkeys on the first lake.

Surajkund सुरजकुण्ड International Mela 2017 Faridabad Haryana - World's largest showcase of crafts
The Mela is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. For the 31thSurajkund International Crafts Mela-2017, the state of Jharkhand has been chosen to be the Theme State. At least 20 countries & all the states of India will be participating in the Mela.
A large number of renowned national and international folk artistes and cultural groups present day performances at both the Chaupals, the open-air theatres, located in the Mela premises. Also enthralling cultural evening programmes are held at the main Chaupal during each of the Mela evening. The Mela is indeed a custodian of the heritage crafts involving use of traditional skills that are fading away due to cheap machine made imitations, and a special section is earmarked for showcasing of these heritage crafts.
The multi-cuisine Food Court provides ethnic cuisines from all over the world, which are immensely popular with visitors. There are designated places for amusement, adventure sports and joy rides to make it a must visit event for the young.
In 2013, the fair was upgraded to an international level and in 2015, a record number of 20 countries participated in the Mela and Lebanon was the Partner Nation and Chhattisgarh, the Theme State.
A splash of colours, rhythm of drum beats and joy de-vivre, merge at Surajkund in Faridabad, Haryana during the first fortnight of each February. The curtains go up on the acclaimed annual ‘Surajkund International Crafts Mela’ from 1st February onwards, a celebration of Indian folk traditions and cultural heritage.
The Mela celebrates the unique diversity of Indian traditions and culture in a ambience, created to represent the ethos of rural India. Surajkund International Crafts Mela showcases some of the most exquisite handlooms and handicrafts of India. Handmade fabrics soaked in ethnic colours make an eye catching display for the visitors.
The multi-cuisine Food Courts provides ethnic cuisines from all over the world, which are immensely popular with visitors. The scintillating folk performances at the two ‘Chaupals’ and mesmerizing evening recitals at ‘Natyashala’ rev up the entertainment quotient. There are designated places for amusement, adventure sports and joy rides to make it a must visit event for the young.
In 2013, the fair was upgraded to an International Level and was rechristened as ‘28th Surajkund International Crafts Mela’ . In 2014, over 15 countries from European & African continents participated in the Mela including SAARC nations. In the upcoming Surajkund International Crafts Mela, over 20 countries are expected to participate.
