Mangalore Surathkal Lighthouse | Surathkal Beach Mangalore Tourism Karnataka tourism South India
Mangalore Surathkal Lighthouse at Surathkal Beach, Suratkal Mangalore Tourism Karnataka tourism South India. Surathkal lighthouse construction work was started in 1969 and was completed by 1972. Surathkal is a suburb of Mangalore city located on National highway 66 (previously as NH-17) in the Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka state, India , on the shore of Arabian sea. The light house is opposite the NITK Surathkal. This lighthouse offers a panaromic view of the scenic beachfront of the Surathkal beach. Shree Sadashiva Mahaganapathi Temple is adjacent to the lighthouse which is perched atop the rocks. The presence of rocks make it dangerous to swim in these waters. The climb up this lighthouse is worth it as you get a mesmerizing sight of the horizon with ships sailing in and out of the port , the long sea line on either side , fishermen with their small boats sailing on the waves and the beautiful green countryside.
Surathkal is 8 kilometres north of New Mangalore seaport. According to legend, the name Surathkal is derived from shiratakal meaning headstone in local language of Tulu. Legend has it that the famous Sadashiva Temple is built around that piece of the Shivalinga. According to Hindu mythology, once Lord Ganesha had kept a Shivalinga that belonged to Ravana on the ground. When Ravana tried to pick it up from the ground it could not be moved. Upon applying force to move it, the linga broke into pieces. The head piece of the linga is said to have fallen in present day Surathkal and hence the name of the place. Surathkal is 360 kms from Bangalore.

Mxplore Episode 2 | Surathkal Beach , Mangalore
Mxplore is an attempt to cover a few places around Mangalore that's not explored a lot. Today I along with my bro and friends visited the beautiful Surathkal beach also known as the NITK Beach which is about 25 KM away from Mangalore City, mnear NIT Karnataka. The lush green roads and beautiful beach is definitely worth praising. This place is idle for a small ride or for a couples day out.
Sasihithlu beach, my favorite destination around NITK Surathkal | Aditya Dev
Sashihitlu beach, a beautiful beach where the river meets the sea. A bit outside the city of mangalore, accessible by public transport too. The road to the beach runs parallel to the sea and the drive is worth it.
Sashihitlu beach is probably the calmest beach nearby Mangalore city. Not many people visit the place. But the place is gaining popularity because of good, clean shores and peaceful surroundings. The place is very good for spending a day with the family or friends. There are one or two shops selling soft drinks and snacks. For more, you have to carry it yourself. The place is little inside so don't expect all facilities what is normal at a more popular beachfront. Its a good place for surfing. India Open Surfing festival is being organized here every year.

A DREDGING SHIP HIT THE SHORE NEAR SURATHKAL BEACH...
HLO GUYS...
WLC TO MY NEW VIDEO...
IN THIS VIDEO I AM GONNA SHOW YOU A DREDGING SHIP WHICH HIT THE SHORE NEAR SURATHKAL BEACH...
REASON :
A dredger owned by Mercator Ltd from Mumbai, which had anchored at New Mangalore Port with the purpose of undertaking dredging operations here had drowned a few months back.
On Monday, another dredger, 'Bhagawati Prem' owned by the above company got stuck in the sand due to turbulence at sea. All the 15 crew members of the ship including its captain have been rescued.
The ship landed near Suratkal beach very close to the seashore. The captain of the vessel informed the port's deputy conservator about the leakage in to the vessel and resultant flooding and sought immediate assistance.
New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) swung into operation to assess the vessel's damage and immediately took a call to beach it, which was successfully completed. The timely action ensured that no loss of property or lives resulted and the maritime ecosystem in the region remained undisturbed. With incessant efforts the ship was stationed near the seashore near Hosabettu, Suratkal by Monday evening.
In the past, another dredger of the same company, Tridev Prem, had sunk near New Mangalore Port Trust and NMPT had to see that oil leakage did not happen. The fishermen, who face new problems with the sinking of ships and dredgers, have demanded to shift this ship elsewhere immediately as they will have problems if the ship sinks at the spot where it has been moored, which is most likely.
