The Board Stiffs | The Gang of Retirees Who Ride Waves in Portugal
The Board Stiffs is a group of retirees who moved to Portugal's Costa de Prata (Silver Coast) and discovered the pleasures of riding waves.
Whether it is warm or cold, these intrepid expats are always chasing waves and improving their skills on the water.
Watch them riding the bodyboard at Baleal, in Peniche.
The founders of The Board Stiffs are Sue and Brian Warnock (North Wales, UK), Curly and Annie Turrington (Cambridge, UK), Kate and Robert (Canada and Hungary).
They're all in their 60s and 70s.
But The Fab 6 have already attracted more riders into the group. The gang is expanding fast, and they will soon be riding waves all over Portugal.

If you want to watch a film about a typical surfer girl you’ve come to the wrong place... This is about tap dancing in cane fields, jumping into bushes, playing metal and surfing. It’s about creativity and being an individual. It’s about a funny girl, Jaleesa Vincent who’s a bit socially awkward and shows us that being different is cool.
When we first met up with Jaleesa in Australia, our first stop was the Bowls Club for a chicken palmy and XXXX ‘scooey’. We found ourselves crying laughing at some toothless guy and that Coco (our photographer) had gotten a raw piece of chicken for her lunch. So the shoot begins. Tap dancing at the Yandina pub, roaming through abandon golf clubs, falling over in cane fields, playing cards and drinking beer to early hours of the morning. Exactly what a shoot about Jaleesa should consist of. Jaleesa is a female surfer dancing to her own beat…get it! and hopefully there are many more out there waiting to reveal themselves.
