Always an enthusiastic surfer, his passion for the sport increased when the family moved to the small community of Wainui Beach when he was a teenager. Quinn comes from a surfing family - his younger brother Jay and sister Holly have both won national titles, his mother is an advocate for women's surfing and his father was a national official.
During the 1990s, Quinn took part in the World Qualifying Series, a lower-ranked pro tour which enables surfers to attempt to qualify for the elite World Championship Tour.
In 1999 Maz became the first New Zealander to win a WQS event and in 2001 he became the first New Zealander ever to qualify for the World Championship Tour, in doing so becoming one of the world's top 44 ranked male surfers.
In 2009, Quinn helped to stage the Quiksilver Maz Quinn King of the Groms, a national surfing event for youth.

Underground Skate & Surf Orewa Beach New Zealand
Here's a quick look through our new store at 306 Hibiscus Coast Highway Orewa Beach.
Orewa’s longest established surf/ skate store. Underground Skate is more than just a skate/surf shop. Being established in Orewa for over 20 years our staff know a thing or two when it comes the area, make sure you come down to the store and chat to Nick and the crew whether you want to know the best coffee spot, where the surfs breaking or the best activities Orewa has to offer.
We are located right on the beach and offer surf, sup and jet ski rentals, we also organize SUP tours up the Puhoi river.
Underground has stayed true to its roots since its inception with a consistent, and solid Skate range available at all times.
Being situated right next to the water in Orewa beach, just North of Auckland, it was inevitable for Underground to move into watersports and bring both Surf and SUP into the fold in recent years.
Since then Underground has continued to be owned and operated by a tight-knit crew of passionate surfers and skaters who all share a true love for standing sideways.
With 2017 seeing US celebrating its 20th year in the industry, you can be sure to get the best advice from a team of experts who have shredded it all and built a deep knowledge base in the process.

He plays well weighted passes that penetrate and break defensive lines. Simon is very comfortable on the ball and a good decision maker. As an Under 16 years player Simon was in the wider training camps for the New Zealand Under 17 team but missed out on the final squad at the last cut. He is a tough, hard working kid with a great attitude and strong leadership potential.
