Gliders at the Former RAF Kenley Airfield
A short video, taken on Monday 6th June 2016, showing gliders on the former Royal Air Force base at Kenley in Surrey, Southern England. Three of the gliders were of a vintage type, one, once being used by the RAF and one other, once being used by the Luftwaffe. The airfield opened in 1917 and continued in use by the RAF until 1959. The film Reach for the Sky was filmed there and today, the airfield is owned by the Ministry of Defence but is open to the public as an open space.
Justin Baldwin's first glider flight, Kenley airfield, 2012.
This view hasn't changed much since the Thirties and is exactly what the WW2 fighter pilots saw as they returned to base during the Battle of Britain. What a sight. Wow!
(Apologies for shooting it in portrait, I was so excited I didn't realize.)
