Fall in the lap of nature where you will only be surrounded by hills, valleys, and rivers. This attractive destination Suru Valley is blessed with grand Rocky Mountains on one side and lustrous green fields on the other. Suru Valley is a must visit place and it is stored with major tourist attractions. Things to Do & See in and around
There are few tourist attractions around Suru Valley, surrounded by Sankoo, Kartse Khar, Rangdum and Panikhar. Sankoo provides a pleasant picnic spot for the tourists. Here, you can enjoy the lush environment and nearby villages. Kartse Khar has a 7th-century statue of Lord Buddha standing 7-foot tall. Rangdum is a beautiful place and it has a monastery along with two hamlets. Panikhar is the base for the mountaineering excursions.
Suru valley beyond Kargil, in the shadow of Nun and Kun
With snow mountains shrouding the scene and the sweet melody of Indus river streaming down, the animals graze peacefully and solitary men wander towards their respective destinations. The Suru valley is a valley in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, which is drained by the Suru River (Indus), a powerful tributary of the Indus river. The valley's most significant town is Kargil. In the shadow of Nun and Kun, the road leads up to the Pensi La from where one can see the K10 group of peaks and the Durung-drug glacier leading into Zanskar's main town of Padum.

Explorations Along the Suru River | Kargil
Suru is one of the tributaries of the Indus river. It is the lifeline of a major part of Kargil area and provides water for drinking and irrigation to many villages built along this river basin. The Suru Valley is the starting point for rafting trips, and it also provides a base for mountaineering expeditions to the Nun Kun mountain massif. The agriculture in Ladakh is scarce due to the dry climate, and is restricted to the river valleys. The Suru valley, formed by the catchment of the Suru River, receives irrigation through the canals of the Suru River. The main crops grown in the valley include barley, buckwheat, turnips and mustard.

Suru Valley Jeep Safari, Kargil To Rangdum, Ladakh
Suru Valley jeep safari starts from Kargil and going upto Rangdum is located in western Ladakh, not much explored by tourists. A 140 km journey with initial 40 km is asphalted and rest the mud-track. The topography keeps changing from greenery to snow clad mountain panorama at Rangdum. My travel story on Suru valley can be accessed for useful info as per foll. link:
Breathtaking views of Suru Valley in Ladakh
A link road from NH 1 at Kargil leads one into the Suru Valley, in fact Kargil lies in the lower part of the Suru valley. About, 100 kilometres from Kargil lies Rangdum, which is at the head of the Suru valley. Panikher village provides amazing views of the valley and also of the course of the Suru river through it.
Rangdum, the last inhabited place of the Suru valley is a grassland in the summers and the is a great place to see the evidence of formation of the Zanskar range from layers of sediment from the ocean floor. It also provides amazing glimpses of the Nun and Kun and other peaks of Ladakh and Zanskar region.

Nun Kun and Suru valley in Zanskar ? - aerial footage
Zanskar is a subdistrict or tehsil of the Kargil district, which lies in the eastern half of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The administrative centre is Padum. Zanskar, together with the neighbouring region of Ladakh, was briefly a part of the kingdom of Guge in Western Tibet.
The Zanskar Range is a mountain range in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir that separates Zanskar from Ladakh. Geologically, the Zanskar Range is part of the Tethys Himalaya, an approximately 100-km-wide synclinorium formed by strongly folded and imbricated, weakly metamorphosed sedimentary series. The average height of the Zanskar Range is about 6,000 m (19,700 ft). Its eastern part is known as Rupshu.
It also separates Kinnaur District from Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. The highest peaks of Himachal are in Zanskar range.

Sankhu village in upper Suru valley near Kargil
Suru valley is a valley in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, which is drained by the Suru River (Indus), a powerful tributary of the Indus river. The valley's most significant town is Kargil.
The Suru valley is inhabited by 25,000 by people of Dard and Tibetan descent. In Kargil and the lower Suru Valley (i.e. Sanku, Panikhar and south as far as Parkachik), the majority of the population are followers of Shi'a Islam, having converted from Tibetan Buddhism in the 16th century under the direction of Thi-Namgyal.[citation needed] Beyond Parkachik the spectacularly beautiful valley is practically uninhabited other than a couple of tiny settlements (Yuldo and Julidok) that consist Rangdum. People here are socially and culturally part of neighbouring Buddhist Zanskar and support the 18th century Rangdum Monastery belonging to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. About 25 km south of Rangdum Monastery, the 4,400 m (14,436 ft) Pensi La (pass) leads into Zanskar.
