The Khao Lak mangroves provide a sheltered nursery for all kinds of marine life. Local people have be living and surviving in the mangroves here for many generations. Many of the local people here are descended from the sea gypsies who once roamed all over South East Asia and living from the sea. So they know the best spots!
We take our long-tail boat out from our small hidden pier and take you to some of the best fishing locations in the mangroves. Here we can spend a few hours fishing and relaxing amongst beautiful surroundings. Once we fancy a break our captain and crew will prepare a delicious local style fisherman's lunch for everyone to enjoy together. After lunch we have a few options to choose from... do you want to fish some more? Or relax on a beautiful, quiet beach? Or swim in a beautiful lagoon? Or even try some kayaking?
This trip is all about relaxing and having a good time. It can be personalized and tailored to suit everyone and anyone.
Sri Racha Tiger Zoo, Sri Racha District, Chon Buri Province, Thailand. ( 3 )
Sri Racha Tiger Zoo.
This Zoo is one I missed when I visited Sri Racha in May 2010. So on the 28th June 2014, I finally got there. I went by Taxi, my friend Sutin driving me from Bowin. The car park was full of coach tours, other private cars and even more taxis. This Zoo can also be reached from highway number 7 the Bangkok to Pattaya Motorway, follow the signs for about 2 kilometres. It was opened in 1997 and since then over 10 million visitors have enjoyed their time there. Travelling from Pattaya, it's about a 30 minute journey by car. If you don’t have a car then you can book a day trip to this Sri Racha Tiger Zoo through the many travel agents around Pattaya. Many hotels have a travel agent sited in the reception lobby of the hotel.
If you are travelling from Bangkok you can use public transport from Ekkamai Bus Terminal or Mo Chit Bus Terminal, take the Bangkok to Sri Racha route or Bangkok – Pattaya route. Alight at Sri Racha city ( opposite Robinson Department Store ). Then walk towards the traffic light and turn left at the junction, take a blue mini bus service ( Sri Racha – Nong Khor route ) to the zoo. Or you can get your own taxi or use the travel agents that can be found all over Bangkok, and again in the hotels. The opening times for the Zoo are 08.00 am to 06.00 pm, last ticket sales are at 05.30 pm, but this is pointless buying a ticket so late. The Zoo is so large and by then all the shows finished it would be a waste to ruin your trip. Ticket prices are 450 Baht for adults and 250 Baht for small children.
While the Zoo is called Tiger Zoo don’t let that confuse you, many other animals are available here. Crocodiles, Camels, Piglets for Pig racing ! You can find Elephants and Deer here also. Many restaurants are scattered about here to satisfy most tastes. Thai, Chinese, Korean, Western, and Indian dishes are on the menu also. There are many shows, but not much time between each one, so once a show has finished you find everyone rushing for the exits to get to the next show. The times for the shows are:~
Crocodile Show 09.30 / 10.30 / 13.00 / 14.00 / 15.00 / 16.00 / 17.00.
Tiger Show 11.00 / 13.30 / 15.30.
Elephant Show 11.40 / 14.30 / 16.30.
Pig Show Every 30 minutes.
The Crocodile was the first show I called in at. This show seems to follow most crocodile shows in Thailand, I guess there is only so much you can do with a crocodile when you are in the show area with them. A first for me was a Thai girl taking part in the show. She was dressed in blue while the men dressed in the usual red garments. I could not quite understand the significance of this but she seemed happy. This show area was packed with visitors, it was good to see so many people enjoying their day out. You can tell this is a busy Zoo, because the height of this arena area was much taller than most other Crocodile shows. It was quite a climb to get to the top, but it did make for better views.
It is claimed that this Zoo has over 400 Royal Bengal Tigers and about 10,000 crocodiles, not an easy task counting all these! In 1982 Sri Racha Zoo obtained four Tiger couples from Chiang Mai Zoo with the aim to breed and raise a population of Tigers due to their decreasing numbers in the wild in Asia. It does seem to have been successful. The Tiger show is outstanding and what these Tigers can do with training. Yes I understand this is not ideal and they are not in the wild. However remember how the population has grown since the Zoo took over the breeding of these incredible and powerful animals. I watched the show and the arena was full of tourists from all over the world and once again a vast arena area with so much more height from floor to top of the show. The tricks they performed especially jumping through the loops of fire were amazing. All of them seemed to be in excellent health and condition. When this show had finished you could go down to the arena ( caged I might add ) and get up close to the Tigers. Then everyone rushed for the exits onto the next show.
Wat Yansangwararam ,Bang Lamung Mountains, Chon buri Province, Thailand. ( 3 )
Set in the Banglamung mountains this towering Temple can be seen for miles. I first saw this temple from the Viharnra Sien or Anek Kusala Sala Temple. It’s the Chinese temple mentioned in this book. I asked my friend Sutin who was driving the taxi and he told me all about it. So the following day, I made sure the first trip was to this incredible temple sat in beautifully landscaped gardens. There is a large lake that sets the canvas for this temple, you can see Pattaya city from the top of the tall temple.
As you drive into the temple you enter from a long winding road, on the right hand side is the beautiful lake setting. You are then met by a tall arched gateway leading into the grounds. This lake has several Pavilion halls scattered around it. These interesting Pavilion halls are in various and unique styles, modelled in different nationalities architecture. There are seven built here in the style of Lanna ~Thai, Central Thailand, Singapore ~ Chinese, Chinese ~ Thai , India, Japanese , and Swiss. Each of the halls has an image of dragons playing with water, which represents the kindness of the king of Thailand and are spreading this message to all the Thai people. This area is very beautiful and makes a very relaxing & calming place to visit.
During 1976, Khun Kajorn along with Khun Nithewvadee Aontrakarn offered a large section of land, to Somdet Phra Yarnsangworn the Supreme Patriarch, who was then the head of the Thai Monastic Order. Now, the complex is under the patronage of the current Thai King, King Bhumibol Adulyadej ~ Rama IX, for establishing a temple named Yansarnworn. While establishing the temple, Khun Nithewvadee and Khun Suarree Aontrakarn offered more land and currently the temple now stands in around 366 rai or 146 acres. It was built to honour the Kings of Thailand, past and present
Wat Yansangwararam is said to stand for heaven for those who love to meditate and practice the teachings. Wat Yansangwararam also offers different meditation courses for those that desire to follow this meditation. The meditation classes are held from 6.00 am to 18.00 pm. The location of Wat Yansangwararam is within the Jomtien Area. Visitors need to drive along Sukhumvit Road from Pattaya City to Sattahip, look for the Kilometre 160 marker. After passing Ban Ampher, you will see a sign showing Wat Yansangwararam is on the left hand side. After turning left, carry on for about 5 Km, and you then arrive at the temple area. Visitors who do not have a private vehicle can go there by hiring a taxi or Songthaew.
The main temple building of Wat Yansangwararam is known for its modern design and is built in a very different style to many Thai temples. A pavilion called Mondop or Mandapa contains a replica of a footprint of the Buddha. Inside a large white 40 metre tall Chedi are many priceless relics said to belong to the Buddha and his followers. Two beautiful statues are on display outside of the current King and Queen of Thailand and near is the statue of the current Kings mother. There is a large car park big enough for coaches and taxis and cars. Next to the car park is a large eating hall / restaurant where Thai food can be bought.
Inside the towering temple it’s very modern with modern art and works of art scattered around the interior. Mood music is played while you wander round this unusual temple building. Outside the grass areas are in need of a gardener, it’s a bit of a mess, it could be made so much better and lets the whole area down when the rest of it is very picturesque. Don’t forget to visit the shrine on top of the hill, just follow the road past the temple buildings and the Monks dwellings, keep bearing left and you will come to a large parking area. On your right are the steps to the hilltop shrine. Also within the temple complex is a school and a hospital and nursery and nursing stations for endangered wildlife.
