Me driving 44 tonne artic up a 25% gradient, the steepest hill I've ever been up, it didn't do the truck any favours as it burst a water pipe and overheated at the top.

THE FINEST VIEW IN ENGLAND AT SUTTON BANK
In this episode of THE YORKSHIRE DAD vlog.....
We go for a cliff top walk along Sutton Bank (it's a long way down from the top). Later in the day Delilah and I go on a little mountain biking adventure.
Apologies if the end credit look a bit crappy in this episode, I forgot the tidy them up so used the new YouTube end screen feature to try and rescue it rather than re-output and upload.

An Accessible walk with AccessTOG at Sutton Bank, North York Moors
Our accessible walk in the North York Moors begins at the Visitors centre at Sutton Bank.
It’s a very steep road that climbs up from Thirsk to Sutton Bank, but in good weather you will be rewarded with some of the finest views I have seen.

Sutton Bank & Gormire Lake - 20 March 2011
A 12 mile walk setting off from the Kilburn White Horse Car Park. The route then descends before following a bridleway towards Hood Grange Farm. The bridleway tracks between Hood Hill and Ivy Scar. From Hood Grange farm the walk crosses the A170 and heads to Gormire Lake. From Gormire Lake the route leads to Southwoods Hall before climbing through South Woods and joining the Cleveland Way. Here we headed north to Boltby Scar before returning south following the Cleveland Way past Whitestone Cliff, Sutton Bank and the Glider Club on Roulston Scar before arriving above Kilburn White Horse and the car park.

Blowing Snow at Sutton Bank
These views of and around the airfield at Sutton Bank were taken on a non-flying day, and some of the snow swirls show the normally invisible turbulence near the edge of the hill, which is why there's no flying in a 30mph west north west wind. As for the rest of it, I guess I got carried away...

Yorkshire Road Trip dash cam Driving down Sutton Bank. Driving on the left.
Driving in England. The view from my car cam, on the road down Sutton bank in the county of North Yorkshire, England. Driving in the UK. Sutton Bank is a steep hill on the A170 between Thirsk and Helmsley in North Yorkshire England. It has a gradient of 1 in 4 (25%) with 2 hairpin bends.Treacherously steep the Sutton Bank road with it,s 1 in 4 gradient on the hill presents a problem for many types of vehicles and their loads - a situation which is aggravated by a hairpin bend. Police figures show that - on average - there is an incident every other day involving obstructions by goods vehicles on Sutton Bank. Due to the limited width of the road and the length of the steep gradient most breakdowns require the road to be closed until the obstruction is removed, causing major delays to traffic. Often closed during bad weather in the winter it is to avoided if possible.
Quote from a HGV driver...Scary, especially that last bit after the sharp left., all the money was falling out of my pockets.
Note the HGV we pass grinding up the hill with a heavy load and a stream of cars behind him.

Sutton Bank - The Movie!
Climbing Sutton Bank in a VW Bora TDI 115 fitted with a Tunit box. May 2010.
Sutton Bank is a steep hill on the A170 between Thirsk and Helmsley in North Yorkshire.
It has a gradient of 1 in 4 (25%) with 2 hairpins (yes it really is on an A road!)
The Bora made easy work of the climb in second gear. I was tempted to go into third whereby I think 45+ MPH would have been achieved. However it is necessary to deliberately slow for the hairpin at the top, when second would be more appropriate.
