Tenzushi no mai 天津司舞 Kofu Yamanashi by Kari Gröhn karigrohn.com karigrohncom
was performed in Tokyo at the National Convention of folk arts (Zenkoku Minzoku Geino Taikai). Tenzushi no mai is a puppet play from Kofu in Yamanashi Prefecture handed down to Suwa and Tenzushi shrines as the guardian deity of Kose-machi. It is the oldest puppet play of Japan, in particular, as representing the ancestral existence.
Within a circular white sheet enclosure the nine puppets are held aloft on poles to perform ritual dengaku music and dance. Two of the dolls play binzasara clappers (Osasara-Sama), two with bigger drums (Otaiko-Sama), one with a smaller one (Otsuzumi-Sama), and one with a flute (Ofue-Sama). Kashima (Okashima-Sama) dances with swords and throws the small sword into the crowd to bring special luck and to protect from evil spirits the one who catches it. Finally, dance the demon (Oni-Sama) and the Princess Hime (Ohime-Sama).
The dolls are enshrined at Tenzushi shrine as the Shinto object of worship representing the nine deities of the shrine. The dolls serve as a display for the deities to ensure safe life for the local people and to pray for good harvest. The performances take place after the rice-planting ritual.
The origin of the ritual is uncertain, but the dance dates back to the 14th century. According to the legend, there were 12 dolls. But two of them went up to heaven and one disappeared in pond called Kagamiike (mirror pond).

Exploring Nagano / Zenkō-ji and the Cemetery
Zenkō-ji (善光寺) is a Buddhist temple located in Nagano, Japan. The temple was built in the 7th century. Nagano City, established in 1897, was originally a town built around the temple.
Historically, Zenkō-ji is perhaps most famous for its involvement in the battles between Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen in the 16th century, when it served as one of Kenshin's bases of operations. Currently, Zenkō-ji is one of the few remaining pilgrimage sites in Japan.
Zenkō-ji was founded before Buddhism in Japan split into several different sects. It currently belongs to both the Tendai and Jōdoshū schools of Buddhism, and is co-managed by twenty-five priests from the former school, and fourteen from the latter. The temple enshrines images of the Amida Buddha. According to legend, the image, having caused dispute between two clans, was dumped into a canal. It was later rescued by Honda Yoshimitsu. The temple was thus named Zenkō, according to the Chinese transliteration of Yoshimitsu's name.
The main Buddhist image is a hibutsu (secret Buddha), a hidden Buddha statue, not shown to the public. This hibutsu is rumored to be the first Buddha statue to ever be brought to Japan. The commandments of the temple require the absolute secrecy of the statue, prohibiting it to be shown to anyone, including the chief priest of the temple. However, a replica of the statue (Maedachi Honzon) has been created which can be shown publicly once every six years in spring, in a ceremony called Gokaichō. This event attracts many worshipers and visitors. When the statue was on display in 2003, Zenkō-ji cooperated with Motozenkō-ji and Zenkō-ji of Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture. The most recent display of Maedachi Honzon took place in April and May, 2015.
The temple contains a statue of Binzuru, a physician who was said to be Buddha's follower. Visitors to the temple touch the statue in order to cure their ailments. The temple also contains an inner prayer chamber, accessible to visitors. Currently, a daily morning ritual is held there by the high priest or priestess. From the inner chamber, a narrow staircase leads down to a completely dark corridor. In this corridor worshippers try to touch a metal key hanging on the wall, in order to gain enlightenment. The key represents the Key to the Western Paradise of the Amida Buddha.
2018 忍野八海の富士と桜(4K) Mt. Fuji & Cherry Blossoms At Oshino-Hakkai(UHD)
前回アップロードした同名のビデオの4K/UHD版です。前回のビデオは手違いによりHD版になっていました。This Video is the real 4K/UHD version of the video of the same title which was uploaded previously. Last one was Full HD version.
Oshino-Hakkai is located at the foot of Mt. Fuji close to Lake Yamanaka in Yamanashi prefecture. Hakkai means eight seas, but it is inconceivable that there are seas in the mountain area. Actually sea means small pond made by spring water. In Oshino village there are eight ponds made by spring water which came out after 20 years of filtering of melted snow in the locks made by lava underground Mt. Fuji. In spring, cherry trees planted along the river called Shin-nashogawa where spring water flows from the ponds, come out and together with Mt. Fuji they create beautiful scenery .
This video was shot at Oshino-Hakkai by Sony a7SII and RX100M5 on 13th April 2018.
I had been using PP1 for the picture profile for regular shot but when I watched past videos of cherry blossoms, I noticed that there are lots of black spots on cherry flowers because of shadow. That was caused by lower dynamic range of the brightness of the video. So, this time I tried PP7 Slog2 Profile. As a result, I could get more steps of brightness and colours and the cherry blossoms on the video became more soft just like we see by our eyes directly.

Eishozan Myoryuji, Kamakura - Japan
Full name: Eishozan Myoryuji (叡昌山妙隆寺)
Denomination: Nichiren Shu (日蓮宗)
Location: Three hundred meters north-eat of JR Kamakura Station.
History: The area is said to have once been occupied by residences of the descendants of the Chiba clan (千葉), influential retainers in the Kamakura period. Tradition at the temple maintains that it was built by Nichiei (日英), who in 1385 was invited by Chiba Tanesada (千葉胤貞) to serve as the founding priest.
Ground and structures: The Main Hall houses images of Nichiren (日蓮, 1222-82), Nisshin (日親), the second head priest, and Shaka Nyorai. The hall this side on the right of the Main Hall houses a statue of Jurojin (寿老人), one of the Seven Lucky Gods of the Kamakura-Enoshima area, who brings longevity as well as safety and health to worshipers. Another stone statue of Jurojin, attended by a deer, stands in front of the entrance to the temple office on the left.
On the right side of the grounds are a pond called Chinoike (血の池), Blood Pond, where Nisshin trained himself rigorously. (See Story')
Further along on the same side is a small hall called Nisshindo (日親堂), which houses a stone image of Nisshin himself.
Story: At the age of 21, Nisshin told himself that he had to be strong enough to endure trials of any kind if he was to spread the teachings of Buddha. To prepare himself, achieve this, he would first bathe in the pond on the grounds here and chant sutras, then paint a mandala in India ink mixed with blood obtained by pulling out his nails. While chanting, he would also plunge his hands into boiling water. Later, in Kyoto, he wrote out his philosophy in a book called Rissho Chikokuron (立正治国論) and submitted the dissertation to the sixth shogun, Ashikaga Yoshinori (足利義教, 1394-1441) as a means of correcting the shogun's policy. In response, he was arrested and punished by having a heated pot fitted on his head. This earned him the nickname, Nabekamuri Nisshin, literally Pot-Wearing Nisshin.
On the right side of the main hall is a stone monument dedicated to the actor Maruyama Sadao (丸山定 夫, 1901-45).

4K | Suwa Region - Shinshu 4K content: “Nagano Kirei”
The Suwa area of Nagano Prefecture is a place rich in nature, and boasts Lake Suwa, the biggest lake in the prefecture. It once featured a very busy post-station town where the Nakasendo road crossed with the Koshukaido road. There is also the Suwataisha shrine, which is well known nationwide. The shrine is visited by many worshippers, and every seventh year by the traditional year-counting method (actually every 6 years) holds the Onbashira Festival, recognized as one of Japan’s greatest religious festivals.
