The Hokusai Museum, located in the quaint town of Obuse in Nagano Prefecture, displays the works of world famous ukiyo-e artist, Katsushika Hokusai. Best known for his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji ukiyo-e wood block series, Hokusai’s collection in Obuse reflects his connection with this small town.
Hokusai spent his twilight years in Obuse, under the invitation of Takai Kozan, a wealthy merchant. Kozan’s desire to bring culture to Obuse led him to invite Hokusai to his town. Hokusai added his touches to the town through the countless brushwork paintings he produced during his stay. In addition, Hokusai painted his signature waves, dragon and phoenix on the ceiling of two floats, used in the town’s festival. These works of art, including the floats are displayed at the Hokusai Museum. The museum has English descriptions as well as a short English video about the artist.

About 1200 years ago, only 10 years after establishing the capital in Nagaoka-kyo, the then Emperor Kanmu decided to move the capital again to avoid misfortunes happened next by next. The name of the new capital, which was built in the center of today’s Kyoto city, was “Heian-kyo.” The main street of Heian-kyo was called Suzaku-Oji and this is the present Senbon-dori street. This time, we will take you to the Senbon street area where you can visit some of the famous sightseeing spots whose origin dates back to the Heian period (794-1185/1192) when Heian-kyo was existed. Visiting this area would entice you to visit the other attractions Kyoto has cultivated in its long history.

2019.4.28～29、長野市のエムウェーブで開催された「長野ノスタルジックカーフェスティバル2019」に行ってきましたので動画で紹介します。

Located in Joyama park, adjacent to the Zenkoji Temple in Nagano is the Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum (長野県信濃美術館). Responding to needs of the citizens desiring a museum in Nagano, the prefectural government together with the local news corporation founded the Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum in 1966. The exhibits are changed among the four basic themes of “recognizing and promoting local culture,” “introducing a wide spectrum of art,” “art in life,” and “art that nurtures appreciation,” allowing a large range of artwork to be displayed throughout the year. Visitors can view artwork from local artists as well as landscape paintings which show off the beautiful scenery of Shinshu.
Next to the Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum is the Higashiyama Kaii Gallery The famous Japanese painter Higashima Kaii donated more than 960 of his artwork, including paintings and sketches, as several books to Nagano Prefecture. To house these magnificent treasures, in 1990 the Higashiyama Kaii Gallery was built. Among the works displayed are masterpieces such as “Vibrant Greens,” “Evening Quiet” and so on. Visitors will find many of his works depict the beautiful Nagano scenery. The pieces are changed every two months.

The Tokyo Imperial Palace is the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan (天皇). It is a large park-like area located in the Chiyoda ward (千代田区) of Tokyo (東京都) and contains buildings including the main palace (宮殿 /Kyūden), the private residences of the Imperial Family, an archive, museums and administrative offices. It is built on the site of the old Edo Castle (江戸城/Edo-jō).
