Suzdal, Russia, a jewel in the Golden Ring.
Suzdal is a truly stunning little town a few hours from Moscow. Whilst not easy to get to (if you do it independently) because there is no direct link to Moscow, it really is a must-see when visiting Moscow.
The video starts with me stuck in Moscow because I missed my pre-booked train (I had to return to my hotel to collect my passport as it is impossible to leave a Russian city by train without it).
I finally get to Suzdal on a dull, overcast day and initially didn't know what the fuss was about. By the end of the day I was a convert and just annoyed at myself for missing a train and losing 2 hours in Suzdal.
I have included about a minute of non-commetary clips of some of the sites as well as a couple of observations (the covering of buildings under construction with a painted sheet really struck me as a bit strange).
After Suzdal I move to Vladimir where I only had time to video the quite stunning Assumption Cathedral and finish with a bit of zumba. You get it all in Russia.

SUZDAL GOLDEN RING RUSSIA | CUCUMBER FESTIVAL!!
On our full day in Suzdal, Katie and I explored the Cucumber Festival, which happens once a year and brings over 17,000 people to a town of just 10,000! (sorry we keep calling it the Pickle Festival)
While visiting Russia, you must see Suzdal in the Golden Ring Russia... it is the pearl of the area. Such a cute and quaint town with lovely little shops and areas to explore. It was pretty busy with the festival, but makes a great addition to a golden ring tour.
The area serves up great Russian cuisine, especially around the festival with so many vendors sharing their own takes on local delicacies.
After that, we headed off to Plyos Golden Ring for a quiet and relaxing evening in Hidden Russia. Plyos and Kostrama are two cities rarely visited by foreigners (from out of country) and really show local Russian ways, which was so great to see. It was nice to get off the beaten path and see another side of Russia. The hospitality we've been shown everywhere has been amazing -- we genuinely have nothing but great things to say about the people.
Stay tuned for our videos on Plyos and Kostrama coming up next!!

Suzdal, Russia
Old Suzdal is one of the towns in the Golden Ring - a group of ancient towns and former capitals of Russia. It looks like a fairytale town with so many medieval buildings located in a relatively small area.

Suzdal is one of the oldest Russian towns. In the 12th century it became the capital of the principality, with Moscow being merely one of its subordinate settlements. Nowadays Suzdal is the smallest of the Russian Golden Ring towns with population of just 9978 (2015), but a major tourist attraction. Several of its monuments are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
An American in Suzdal
Russian Around: An American in Suzdal
In this video, we take you on a tour of an American in Suzdal and Vladimir, two of our favorite cities in Russia. Suzdal, and its neighbor Vladimr, lie about 200 kilometers from Moscow. They are situated in Russia’s “Golden Ring,” an area of cities that have an unusually high amount of rich history and cultural heritage. In Vladimir, we got to see a UNESCO world heritage site, a church that had somehow been left standing after the Mongol invasion of the 1200’s. Suzdal gave us incredible opportunities for taking in stunning architecture, delicious food, and even a traditional Russian banya experience. Follow this American and Russian as we embark on the adventure of reliving Russia’s religious past.

Pereyaslavl in 2 days. Cities of Russia. Things to do
If you search for the best places in Russia, I recommend you to go to Pereyaslavl.
Today we make a little trip to Pereyaslavl (Переславль -Залесский)
Pereyaslavl is a beautiful, small and ancient city of Russia .
It takes 3 hours to get there by car from Moscow.
The population is less than 40 000.
It was founded by Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152.
By the way Moscow also was founded by this man in 1147.
There was another important person in Russian history his name is Peter the Great. He was a Russian tsar in the late 17th century who is best known for his extensive reforms in an attempt to establish Russia as a great nation.
Peter the great lived in Pereyaslavl for a while because at the age of 16 he decided to build boats and found the city with large lake. That’s why you may see savedThe Little Boat of Peter the Great which he built himself.
One of the popular spots of this town is Blue Stone.
During the pagan times people worshipped this stone. Now people make wishes touching this one.
There are plenty of Churches. Some of them are open and they are unremarkable on the outside and very beautiful inside.
We lived on the territory of eco-camping and drank tea from a samovar.
The nature and the Lake Pleshcheyevo are amazing. For people who live in Moscow and in big cities, this town is the best solution to make a trip and have a rest.

Suzdal,Russia Tour of the Golden Ring Folk Music
I had just finished a tour of Moscow. Following that I set out on my tour of the Golden Ring of Russia with my tourists from 2012, the Lowery family.
We visited this marvelous museum that they had seen two years before. I wondered, frankly, why they would want to return. On first inspection it seemed like a nice museum but not much more.
Then we met them.
I discovered why this was worthy of a return visit. The talent of the gentleman on the instrument and the sweet voice of the lady took me by surprise. I could have listened for hours.
I love going to St. Petersburg and this time I was to tour the new Faberge Museum but I really regretted leaving Suzdal.
I could spend a week there.
