Longyearbyen, Spitzbergen - Svalbard Kirke
Die nördlichste Kirche der Welt steht in Longyearbyen auf dem Inselarchipel Spitzbergen. Sie gehört der Norwegischen Kirche an und wurde 1958 anstelle einer älteren Kirche erbaut, die im 2. Weltkrieg zerstört worden ist.

In June 2017, we spent 3 days in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard and visited Longyearbyen and Barentsburg – a real summer adventure in Svalbard so to speak! We did everything from dog-sledding to mountain hiking and seeing glaciers.

An amazing trip to Svalbard from April 6th until the 10th with my two great friends Marine and Eleen :)
Platå mountain evening hike - Longyearbyen, Svalbard
A fine mountain hike to experience the landscape in midnight sun. During winter it is a possibility to observe the Aurora Borealis (northern light). And all the lights in little Longyearbyen makes an awesome sight between mountains and glaciers. We follow a small trial up the mountain side climbing 300 height meters. We get close to thousands of Little Auks that are nesting here every summer. Where you have bird mountains there is always an opportunity to meet the little Polar Fox. On the top, that we will reach after several breakes, your guide will serve hot drinks and a little snack. In the soft evening light the overview of glaciers, valley, sea and surrounding mountains makes up for the climb.

Arctic dogsledding with Svalbard huskies, Longyearbyen
Great winter activities with wonderful Svalbard huskies.
First you get to know the Alaska huskies, then a team of six huskies is selected for you. Then you first get the two lead huskies and harness them to the sleigh. While one waits with the lead huskies (to keep them calm), the other collects the four other huskies. When you have all six, you are ready to ride in magical surroundings! After the fantastic ride you unharness the huskies, congratulate them for a job well done, and feed all the huskies (including the ones who stayed behind).
Filming the operations in the harsh environment with lively and energetic huskies was a real (positive) challenge for us and the cameras.

26-06-2009. Longyearbyen, Svalbard. High noon clips, at around 1.00 PM. The sun is at its highest position in the sky. Temperature under the sun reaches 20 degrees C for a while, before quickly drops. Air temperature in the shade is under 10 degrees (probably 6 or 7 Celsius).
