How I Explored Tatarstan, Russia (Kazan, Sviyazhsk, Great Bolgar). Vlog
Vlog from 2-days promo tour in the Republic of Tatarstan of Russia. It was managed by the State Committee of Tourism of Tatarstan for the representatives of many tour agencies all over Russia.
I joined this tour as a videoblogger though by an invitation of Khazina Tour company, the leader of tours from Bashkortostan to Tatarstan.
At this promo tour they are introduced two of their new tourist destinations - the island-city of Sviyazhsk and the old city of Great Bolgar. Both are recently added to the list of UNESCO heritage.
My purpose was to explore these locations and more of the Republic of Tatarstan to collect an information for further more detail videos on each of destinations.
Later I will get back again to film a separate and more detail videos about Sviyazhsk, Great Bolgar and more.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Nowadays, the Republic of Tatarstan is an important federal subject of the Russian Federation, set at the confluence of the Volga and the Kama Rivers. The region is located approximately 800 km east of Moscow, which is not that far by Russian standards.
2. During the 6-7th centuries, the territory of Tatarstan was part of the Turkic Khaganate which inhabited the Magyar tribes. Later on, they were superseded by Volga Bulgarians who conquered these lands and formed an early feudal state of Volga-Kama Bulgaria. The state gained independence and repeatedly entered military conflicts with Kievan Rus. In the 13th century, as a result of the Mongol-Tatars invasion, Volga Bulgaria fell to the armies of the Mongol prince and became part of the Golden Horde. After that, the population became known as Volga Tatars.
3. The capital of Tatarstan, Kazan, officially bears the title of the Third Capital of Russia due to its rich cultural and historical heritage. This beautiful city on the left bank of the Volga River is noted for its centuries-old religious tolerance.
4. The rural yet charming town-island of Sviyazhsk is a famous landmark located 30 km from Kazan. Built in 1551 by the troops of Ivan the Terrible in just 4 weeks, this architectural complex includes 4 monasteries, 3 churches, 2 cathedrals, and a bell tower.
5. You’ve heard about Bulgaria, but not its ancient, lesser-known, more mysterious namesake. A quaint Slavic country on the southern tip of the Balkans, famed for its beaches, roses, and ski resorts. This is probably the first thing that’ll come to mind when you hear “Bulgaria.” But have you heard about the other Bulgaria? The one in the middle of Russia?
6. The Temple of All Religions (Russian: Храм всех религий, Tatar: Барлык диннәр гыйбәдәтханәсе) or the Universal Temple (Russian: Вселенский храм) is a unique architectural complex in the Staroye Arakchino Microdistrict of Kazan, Russia. It consists of several types of religious architecture including an Orthodox church, a mosque, and a synagogue, among others. It is currently under construction since 1992.
7. Kazan subway, having 5 stations, is listed among Guinness World Records as the shortest metro system in the world. One can get from one end to another for 10 minutes!

Aug 29, 2012 Russia_Putin visits Russian republic of Tatarstan
Russian President Vladimir Putin was in the Russian republic of Tatarstan on Tuesday.
The president visited Bolgar State Historical-Architectural Reserve -- an abandoned Golden Horde's town of the 14th century, which was the first place in Russia to officially recognize Islam -- and a center of Orthodox culture, the city of Sviyazhsk.
In Bolgar, Putin awarded state decorations to the families of Muslim leaders who were recently attacked in Tatarstan. Valiulla Yakupov was shot dead in Kazan on 19 July and Ildus Faizov was wounded by a car bomb the same day in a different part of the city.
Putin also traveled to the ancient city of Sviyazhsk, where he had a look at archeological excavations and reconstruction works.

Language no barrier for ‘gastronauts’ in Tatarstan - Taste of Russia Ep. 27
Oscar and Glen continue their exploration of Tatarstan at an ethnic museum that recreates Tatar village life back through the centuries.
Watch more films about Food & Cooking:
After examining the inner workings of a wooden windmill built by women during World War II, they begin cooking by whipping up some delicious potato pancakes and then, after a quick break for a sleigh ride, make a big meat and potato pie. The only problem is their instructor speaks very quickly and continuously slips into the Tatar language when barking out orders, which thoroughly befuddles Glen.
While the pie is baking in a wood-fired oven, the friends check out the village’s camel herd. They are surprised to learn that, unlike their desert cousins, these shaggy camels can tolerate temperatures down to -50°C and produce lactose-free milk.
As the day ends, Oscar and Glen sit down with the locals to partake in a real Tatar feast, complete with music, song, national costumes and, of course, the amazing dishes they’ve made!
