Svolvær? ist eine Stadt in Norwegen. Svolvær ist das Verwaltungszentrum der Kommune Vågan sowie die größte Stadt auf den Lofoten in der Provinz Nordland. Der Ort hat ca. 4000 Einwohner, die Kommune Vågan ca. 9200 Einwohner. Wahrzeichen von Svolvær ist der Berg Svolværgeita (Erstbesteigung 1910) mit zwei 1,8 m auseinanderstehenden Felsspitzen.

There are two ways to get a spectacular view over the town of Svolvaer…hike to the top of Svolvaer Fløya or climb Svolvaergeita.
Svolvaer is one of the largest towns in the Lofoten Islands. Fløya is the mountain that forms the backdrop of the town. From the top of Fløya, you can look over not only the town of Svolvaer, but over nearby mountain peaks and islands off in the distance.
Svolvaergeita, also called The Goat, is a pinnacle of rock that is very popular with rock climbers. It’s located on the slope of Fløya and it’s from the top of this rock that you get one of the most unique views over Svolvaer.

▸ Svolværgeita (Northern Sami: Spålla) is a 150-metre (490 ft) tall pinnacle at the southwest face of Fløyfjellet on the island of Austvågøya in the Lofoten archipelago. The 569-metre (1,867 ft) high Fløyfjellet is located on the edge of the town of Svolvær in the municipality of Vågan in Nordland county, Norway. The first recorded time a climber reached the summit of Svolværgeita was on 1 August 1910 by Ferdinand Schjelderup, Alf Bonnevie Bryn and Carl Wilhelm Robinson.
▸ The name: The first element is Svolvær, since it is located in that town. The last element is the finite form of geit which means goat, since the mountain has two horns. The two horns are called Storhorn and Lillehorn. By descending from Storhorn it is common to jump over a 1.5 metre wide gap and land safely on Lillehorn, while viewing the town cemetery 300 metre below.
