Iconic Ski Resort Will Reopen This Winter
By Justin Gould.
CHERRY CREEK - An iconic ski spot is making a comeback after a fire in 2011 left the lodge burnt to the ground and forced the facility to close.
Now under new ownership, Cockaigne Resort is expected to officially open this December with a brand new lodge offering a warm place for skiers to relax.
A new lodge, (and) also a new stage will be here and we will use that for overflow seating in the winter for skiers and snowboarders, said Cockaigne co-owner Isaac Gratto. There will also be a new tubing hill and a lot of updates to all the buildings.
Gratto is excited that the resort will now be a year round destination, with a new outdoor stage.
The 3,000 square foot stage will have full sound and the ski scope will serve as the backdrop with seating, explained Gratto.
Gratto said that the resort will provide the Cherry Creek community with around 50 full-time jobs. He said that the ability to be open year round is a boost to the community.
That really is what makes a business work is the ability to be open all year round, to generate revenue all year round, and to employ people for all four seasons, said Gratto.
Construction crews are currently fixing up the old ski lifts and erecting the new lodge. Most of the funding for the rehab was invested by Gratto and his business partners.
This weekend, the resort will have a soft opening of sorts, welcoming the BrewGrass Music Festival.
Cockaigne is 425 square acres with 15 slopes and will open on December 1.

Police Arrest Man For Filming Raid& Then Shoot His Dog. Hawthorne,California
The reason I am uploading this is to spread the word about violence by police. It happens everyday. Recently, police brutality has been captured and noticed by people in more and more with video cameras. I respect most police officers and realize that they have a very difficult job to do with many quick decisions that have to be made. I encourage you to re-upload this video before it gets flagged or Youtube takes it down. Tell your friends about what happened and show them this. I do not support what the police officer did in this video and felt that better decisions could have been made.
Officer that shot the dog:
Lieutenant Scott Swain

U.S. judge won't overturn convictions of five ex-Madoff employees
U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain said on Thursday there was sufficient evidence for jurors to have convicted back-office director Daniel Bonventre, portfolio managers Annette Bongiorno and Joann Crupi, and computer programmers Jerome O’Hara and George Perez on all counts they faced, including securities fraud and conspiracy to defraud. n Swain also rejected the defendants' alternative argument that they deserved a new trial because prosecutors made improper remarks during their opening and closing statements. n The defendants were convicted on March 24, and are scheduled n to be sentenced in mid-September. n n (Reporting by Jonathan Stempel in New York; Editing by Phil Berlowitz)
What Happened When We Visited a Haunted House in New York
When Miss Fanny Van Wyck, born in 1903, passed away in 1988, she could never have imagined her house would be auctioned off by the state against her dying wish. Now her ghost is believed to remain in Miss Fanny's Victorian Party House in Poughkeepsie, New York. The home is known as one of the most haunted in New York State. InsideEdition.com visited the historic location with a psychic medium to explore the house and find out if it really is haunted. The results were truly terrifying.

NYC Judge Picked to Oversee Puerto Rico Bankruptcy Case
On Friday, U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts appointed a Manhattan federal judge to oversee a landmark bankruptcy case surrounding Puerto Rico, which is reportedly $70 billion in debt. In a statement, Roberts, who is required by law to appoint a District Court judge, not a bankruptcy judge, said he has designated U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain of the Southern District of New York to oversee the case. In the past, Swain has overseen are the criminal cases of former employees of fraudster Bernie Madoff and the insider trading case of hedge fund SAC Capital.

Trump: Mueller and Rosenstein 'Still Here'
(18 Apr 2018) President Donald Trump is passing up a chance to say whether he will fire special counsel Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Trump says there's been speculation that he would get rid of the two men for months but that they are still here.
But Trump also says that he wants the ongoing investigation into possible collusion between his campaign and Russian officials done with.
Trump said Wednesday he has cooperated with Mueller's investigators and his team has turned over more than a million documents.
The president added that he hoped the probe was hopefully coming to an end.
Trump spoke alongside Japanese Prince Minister Shinzo Abe at a news conference at his Florida resort.
He also said he would prefer a bilateral trade deal with Japan instead of re-joining an 11 nation Pacific Rim trade pact.
But Trump says if he's offered a deal we can't refuse, he would be willing to re-enter the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Broad Run Park Trail Guide: Highland Crossing Trail
The Highland Crossing Trail is a 0.83 mile end-to-end paved hiking trail located in Louisville’s Broad Run Park.
Park at the Big Vista Overlook parking lot, which has two handicapped accessible parking spot and eleven all-access spots. The parking area is equipped with benches, picnic tables, but no restroom facilities. The Louisville Loop passes by, connecting one trailhead to the other to make a 1.3 mile loop, which we describe in the video.
The trail is paved, making it open to all weather conditions, a rarity in the Parklands. In addition to being paved, the trail has almost no elevation changes, making it ideal for families with small children or the infirm. Be careful with kids, because the trail crosses Broad Run Parkway twice and parallels it closely at a couple points. All-in-all, it’s a great walk, with a wonderful vista at the start and finish, mixed with a little bit of tree cover and nice meadow views, with abundant wildflowers.
We hope you enjoy the guide, and even more, we hope you enjoy the trail. Leave your impressions in the comments section below!
Directions to the trailhead:
1. To get to the trailhead, we took the Gene Snyder Freeway to exit 17, Bardstown Road (Highway 150)
2. Head south towards Mt. Washington and Bardstown for 4.2 miles.
3. The Broad Run Park entrance is on the left, and you’ll take the park service road 1.51 miles to the Big Vista Overlook parking lot, which will be on your left. Please note that there are only 13 parking spots in this parking area, which fill up quickly on nice days.

Are the 7 Dirty Words Still Dirty on the Internet? Robert Corn-Revere on New Media Censorship
Technologies, while they expand human freedom, have always led to efforts to repress them, says First Amendment attorney Robert Corn-Revere. Censorship is the bastard child of technology. And in many ways, we've seen this pattern repeat itself many times through history.
Corn-Revere is a partner at the law firm of Davis, Wright, and Tremaine and a longtime advocate for freedom of expression. He has defended CBS against indecency charges for the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction during the Super Bowl, petitioned New York State to grant a posthumous pardon to Lenny Bruce, and was part of the defense of adult filmmaker John Stagliano against federal obscenity charges.
From the Star Chamber of England to the outlawing of typewriters in the Islamic world to the Great Firewall of China, Corn-Revere stresses that governments have always reacted to new communication technologies with suspicion. Even in countries where the tradition of free speech runs deep, such as the United States, film and television have faced tighter scrutiny than older forms of expression.
But the Internet, Corn-Revere says, has avoided a repeat of history. In 1996, the Communications Decency Act attempted to restrict obscene material and the use of seven dirty words on computer networks. Had the Supreme Court not ruled that much of the law was unconstitutional, the Internet would look very different that it does today. It was the first time in American history, says Corn-Revere, that a new communications technology beat back regulations in the courts and won full First Amendment protections.
Corn-Revere recently joined Pete Tucker, a new media journalist, to discuss Internet censorship with Reason Foundation analyst Steven Titch at Reason's Washington, D.C. offices. Tucker operates TheFightBack.org, a website covering the news of Washington D.C. that's often overlooked by the mainstream media. Tucker, who was arrested for photographing a public meeting of D.C.'s taxi commission, shares his views as a new media journalist who is routinely provided fewer legal protections than his more-establishment peers.

NYC Government Traumatizes Gun Owners
In its battle against guns, New York City traumatizes law-abiding gun owners who pass through New York and its airports with guns. One man was even arrested for traveling with an empty magazine.

Don't miss a single video from Stossel TV, sign up here:
---------
Bills have been filed in both chambers of Congress to make gun permits valid in all states, which would prevent cases like these.
Stossel interviews Patricia Jordan and Avi Wolf, who were arrested at the airport. Patricia had tried to declare her gun, which was unloaded and in a TSA-approved case. Avi was trying to declare an empty gun magazine–essentially a piece of metal with a spring in it.
For their effort they spent a day in jail. They were threatened with three years and six months in jail–the mandatory minimum for having a gun in New York. They spent months worrying about how to beat the charge. Each spent more than $15,000 in legal bills.
Eventually the government let them off with a violation–public disorder.
Stossel says: Give me a break. He confronts the Queens District Attorney's office that prosecutes such cases.
