SWAKOPMUND/NAMIBIA:
SWAKOPMUND is a city on the coast of northwestern Namibia, 280 km (170 mi) west of Windhoek, Namibia's capital. It is the capital of the Erongo administrative district. As a seaside resort, the weather is cooler here in December to January (Namibia's summer months) so the territorial administration moves to Swakopmund for these months. The town has 42,000 inhabitants and covers193 square kilometres (75 sq mi) of land.
Swakopmund is a beach resort and an example of German colonial architecture. It was founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South-West Africa, and a sizable part of its population is still German-speaking today.
The city lies on the B2 road and the Trans-Namib Railway from Windhoek to Walvis Bay. It is also home to Swakopmund Airport.
Buildings in the city include the Altes Gefängnis prison, designed by Heinrich Bause in 1909. The Woermannhaus, built in 1906 with a prominent tower, is now a public library.
Attractions in Swakopmund include a Swakopmund Museum, the National Marine Aquarium, a crystal gallery and spectacular sand dunes near Langstrand south of the Swakop River. Outside of the city, the Rossmund Desert Golf Course is one of only 5 all-grass desert golf courses in the world. The city is known for extreme sports. Nearby lies a camel farm and the Martin Luther steam locomotive, dating from 1896 and abandoned in the desert.Wikipedia

While for many it is the adrenaline fueled adventures that will grab their attention, Swakopmund offers all that and more. We got to head off into the beautiful desert of Namibia to do quad biking and sand boarding. I nearly hit a snake as I was coming down on the sand board “close call”. It was not as fun as Dubai because there were so many rules but of course had to pull some trick on it. Gutted that I lost my skeleton and couldn’t connect my go pro to any of accessorizes I brought with me.

This has taken me a LONG time to finish, mainly because there was so much footage (and I'm quite lazy with this stuff). But here it is! If you're thinking of a trip to Namibia, I highly recommend it. A group of us drove from Cape Town across the border into Windhoek, you can of course fly there, but the drive was incredible!
The video is in two parts; the first part is Windhoek, a farm where we stayed and the second part is based in Swakopmund. We stayed about 4 hours out of Windhoek city, it was right by the Kalahari Desert – it was beautiful.
I really loved Swakop thou, being from England I’ve never seen desert like this, it was crazy. This is actually where Mad Max was filmed (fun fact). In Swakop we did a number of things, we went up dune 7, rode camels, sky dived and many more. The dunes were the best part for me (if you don’t like sand, then its not for you because it gets everywhere), but running/falling down a almost verticle dune without hurting yourself was a blast (getting back up is the problem).
All in all a fun trip, the people are friendly, its safe and the landscape was stunning!
