The Watchful Cockatoo - 'Loving Your Wetlands'
This is a response to the 'Loving Your Wetlands' invitation to exhibit at Swanpool Cinema, Victoria, Australia
Swanpool Magic. Community cinema at its best.
This film shows that even if you are a very small community, you can have a movie theatre, With that comes all the fun not only of seeing great movies together, but running your own picture palace
They say the single screen is a dinosaur. Not true.! Rather, I think it's the future. As people get better and better home screen systems, the reason to go out to the movies becomes more and more the social experience.
Going out is a search not only for a good story on the screen, but atmosphere and friendship. Swanpool pulls people in from far and wide for exactly these reasons

Coots are medium-sized water birds that are members of the Rallidae family. They constitute the genus Fulica. Coots have predominantly black plumage, and—unlike many rails—they are usually easy to see, often swimming in open water. They are close relatives of the moorhen.

The greatest species variety occurs in South America, and the genus likely originated there. They are common in Europe and North America.
SYDNEY AUSTRALIA CITYTOUR | AERIAL FOOTAGE #citytour #sydneyvlog #sydneyaustralia #sydneyoperahouse
The modern history of the city began with the arrival of a First Fleet of British ships in 1788 and the foundation of a penal colony by Great Britain. From 1788 to 1900 Sydney was the capital of the British colony of New South Wales. An elected city council was established in 1840.

The coots nest | Warnham films #1
Coots are awesome birds in the UK. Aggressive. Punk. Monotone marvels of our wildfowl. They certainly have a reputation.
However, during the breeding season, they have to be a little bit calmer towards their partner. This is a coot family preparing for young fledglings. It is both a busy yet slow time to be a coot.
This is the first episode in my new Warnham films series, a local nature reserve that is close to my heart. Please like and subscribe for more content like this.
Sorry for the lack of sound, title-card or decent editing. Better videos to come!

Frankston time lapse
Footage taken with a Brinno garden cam at a rate of one frame every 5 seconds. as you can see, not the best for doing people time lapse, but good for natural phenomena such as clouds, plants growing etc. Still it's interesting enough.
taken from the Coffee Club Frankston, and the tune used was from the Windows 7 sample tunes. editing software was Pinnacle Studio..
All up, it took 2 hours to film, and about 3 hours to edit, title and add music, the longest part of the process was uploading to YouTube, All done on an e machones laptop.
So, I am happy with the result. Now to try other things that happen slowly and condense it down to minutes.

Swanpool Ave/Station St Level Crossing, Chelsea
This is the Swanpool Ave/Station St level crossing in Chelsea, on the Frankston line, with footage I took in December 2017, January and August 2018. This crossing is on the Victorian government's list of level crossings to be removed. It is currently in the planning stages, with construction set to begin in 2020
This crossing has:
- Two General Signals E-Bells. Both bells are programmed to sound continuously up until the boom gates rise. The bell on the eastern side was dead when I filmed the crossing in December and January (I ACCIDENTALLY WROTE WESTERN SIDE IN THE VIDEO, I MEANT EASTERN SIDE), but by August the bell had been replaced with a working equivalent
- Westinghouse and McKenzie & Holland cross-arms.
- A mixture of marked and unmarked Westinghouse lights, and one unmarked McKenzie & Holland light (which was working in December and January, but by August the globe had blown)
- Westinghouse boom gate mechanisms with unmarked bases
- Unmarked bases on all individual signals
- Westinghouse pedestrian boom gate mechanisms
I somehow forgot to film the crossing warning signs. Sorry people

Victoria bushfires: East Gippsland fires update
Bairnsdale incident controller Ben Rankin updates reporters on bushfires in Australia's East Gippsland area. Rankin says the area is facing extreme fire danger. 'We will get big column development today and quite significant runs of fire if anything breaks out of the control lines we've currently got,' Rankin says. He says a cool change expected around midnight will present its own challenges and may lead to new runs of fire

Purple Moorhen or Swamphen at Basai wetland, on Water Hyacinth
Threatened with the close and impending construction of massive real estate projects, this Purple Moorhen heralds the tail end of the flourishing and as-yet-surviving wetland of Basai which will inevitably be over-run by human activity and developments in Gurgaon on the outskirts of New Delhi city.
The purple swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) is a swamp hen in the rail family Rallidae. Also known locally as the pūkeko, African purple swamphen, purple moorhen, purple gallinule or purple coot. From its French name talève sultane, it is also known as the sultana bird. This chicken-sized bird, with its large feet, bright plumage and red bill and frontal shield is easily recognisable in its native range.
The species makes loud, quick, bleating and hooting calls, which are hardly bird-like in tone. It is particularly noisy during the breeding season. Despite being clumsy in flight it can fly long distances, and it is a good swimmer, especially for a bird without webbed feet.
The species is considered to be Least Concern globally by the IUCN. While the species as a whole is not threatened, some subspecies have declined. In New Zealand and Australia it has expanded due to the creation of new artificial lakes and ponds, but the nominate race in the Mediterranean has declined due to habitat loss, hunting and pesticide use, and requires strict protection. In Portugal the species declined greatly in the 19th and 20th centuries, but has increased more recently thanks to protection and some reintroduction schemes, although it remains rare and has a fragmented distribution. In Africa it varies from being common to being uncommon. The subspecies endemic to Palau has been considered endangered as well, although a 2005 survey found that the subspecies, while potentially threatened, is at least now still common.
