Located at the southern tip of Lake Geneva, surrounded by the Jura mountains and the Alps, Geneva offers exceptional views of the majestic Mont Blanc. The city that houses the United Nations headquarters and the Economic Commission for Europe, Geneva is made up of some 41 per cent foreigners from 190 different nationalities. With more than 200,000 inhabitants, Geneva is the second most populated city in Switzerland after Zurich.
Today, we invite you to discover this beautiful city, the home of watchmaking, where philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau was born one evening in June 1712. After having checked into our rooms at the Hotel Metropole facing the lake, we offer you a walk in the heart of the English garden which houses the famous flower clock.
Another emblem of the city is the Rue du Rhône where the most beautiful brands have taken up residence. Bucherer will then reveal some of its finest jewellery pieces. A little further up, we will enter the new Artya boutique, before taking our first gourmet break, at the Café Perche in the heart of the Parc des Eaux vives. With 22,000 m2 of retail space, the
Manor Geneva is Switzerland's second largest store, and the largest in terms of revenue. We will stroll the aisles, looking for luxury perfumes and haute couture chocolates. We spotlight a brand of unique and customisable bags called The Collector, before ending our evening at Metropole's MET Rooftop Lounge. But for now, let's drop our bags at the Metropole Hotel. We could not dream of a better location. On one side, the English Garden and its flower clock, with the iconic stream of water in the background, on the other, the Rue du Rhône, heaven on earth for all lovers of luxury shopping. A legendary building dating back to 1854, with an elegant design, from the entrance hall to the Mirror Bar, to the some 127 contemporary-style rooms and suites ranging in size from 15 to 80 square metres.
Outside, Gusto's terrace is often busy for both a drink and a taste of Roman-inspired, healthy cuisine based on seasonal produce. In the summer season, more and more people are getting closer to the water jet every day, hoping to receive a few fresh drops of water. Standing at 140 metres tall, it has become over time a true emblem of Geneva. Its story begins in 1886. At the time, the hydraulic plant which distributed the driving force of the Rhône to the craftsmen and watchmakers of Geneva, was forced to create an open evacuation of the pressurised water, when the workshops closed at night. The place generated so much enthusiasm that it never stopped working. In 1891, the City of Geneva even decided to promote the Water Fountain to the rank of tourist attraction by installing it at the end of the Pier des Eaux-vives, in the heart of the harbour. 500 is the number of litres of water thrown into the air every second.12,000, on the other hand, is the number of flowers that make up this magnificent clock located under the Ferris wheel, and near the Patek Philippe boutique, creator of the very first Swiss wristwatch in 1868. It was a ladies piece, ordered at the time by Countess Koscowicz of Hungary. Another must-see house is that of Swiss jeweller and watchmaker Bucherer. With around thirty boutiques worldwide, they are one of the main players in the sector. An exceptional house located at number 45 on a street that is often compared to Fifth Avenue in New York, or even to Place Vendôme in Paris. A luxury kingdom par excellence, Rue du Rhône is the second most expensive street in Switzerland, behind Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. A little further up, rue Neuve-du-Molard, at number 22, is a brand new boutique that has just opened, that of watchmaker Yvan Arpa. In the windows are watches that are for the most part unique and above all extraordinary. What is amazing is this bezel which was literally forged with a Tesla coil and a Faraday cage. The shop is also in the image of the designer: totally unique…!

We had one full day in Zurich, Switzerland, and I wanted to make the most of it by going on a Swiss food tour, eating as much food as possible, and walking around and seeing some of the most famou sights and attractions in the beautiful city of Zurich.
Here are all the details about everything you’ll find in this video:
Zürich, Switzerland
Café Henrici - To begin the day for Swiss breakfast, we stopped to have a cup of coffee, and also I wanted a croissant, but they were all out of the morning already, so I settled for a few small slices of bread. It was excellent.
Total price for 3 people - 24.40 CHF ($25.75)
Lindenhof Hill - This is a great place to get a view over Old Zurich, and it puts the city into perspective and helps you get your bearings, and the views are beautiful.
Swiss Chuchi - Thank you to Marcel for this recommendation. In Switzerland for a single day, I needed to eat one of the most well known of all Swiss food, cheese fondue. At Swiss Chuchi restaurant, we enjoyed both cheese fondue and raclette, both of which were excellent and the most cheese I’ve had in a single meal in a very long time.
Total price - 126 CHF ($132.98)
That included all I ate, and 2 other plates of food.
Grossmünster - This church is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Zurich. For a small fee, you can pay to climb to the top of the tower for an amazing view.
Price - 4 CHF ($4.22)
Lake Zurich - The city of Zurich is surrounds Lake Zurich, which is unbelievably clean and pure.
Kronenhalle Restaurant - This is one of the most legendary and classic restaurants in all of Zurich, Switzerland. I didn’t realized it was so expensive and so high end, but we decided to go for it anyway, because I was looking forward to trying their Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, the most well known of all Zurich Swiss food dishes consisting of thin sliced potato paired with veal stew. It’s quite a stunning dish and the version at Kronenhalle Restaurant was absolutely stunning.
Total price - 126 CHF ($132.98)
Bahnhofstrasse Shopping street
Rheinfelder Bierhalle - To finish off this ultimate Swiss food tour of Zurich in a single day we went to Rheinfelder Bierhalle, a beer hall and restaurant in Zurich. I ordered their specialty, Jumbo Jumbo Cordon Bleu. Cordon bleu is another one of the Swiss food dishes you don’t want to miss when you’re in Zurich.
Thank you very much for watching this Swiss food tour!

How Is McDonald's Different In Switzerland?
Senior Video Correspondent Graham Flanagan visited a McDonald's in Zürich, Switzerland to try the world's highest-priced Big Mac. The burger goes for 6.50 Swiss francs, which comes out to around $6.63. He also sampled some unique menu items that you can't get in the United States, such as the Quinoa Curry, the Steakhouse Classic, and the Toblerone McFlurry.
Following is a transcript of the video:
Graham Flanagan: This is a McDonald's in Switzerland. It's where you can buy the most expensive Big Mac in the world.
Welcome to Zürich, the largest city in Switzerland. I visited the McDonald's in the heart of the city's historic Old Town district.
It's a cold Friday night here in Zürich, Switzerland, and I just arrived at the McDonald's. There you see the golden arches. I'm gonna check it out and see if they have any special menu items you can't get in the States, see what it's all about. Let's go.
Okay, so I got a lot of food. My order came out to 32.50 Swiss francs. We're going to start with the Big Mac because this is the most expensive Big Mac in the world, apparently.
It's true, the Swiss Big Mac commands a higher price than any other country in the world. At 6.50 in Swiss francs, which is about $6.63 in US dollars. Compare that to the price of a Big Mac in the US at $5.58, which might suggest that the Swiss franc is overvalued by 19%.
But does it taste like the world's most expensive Big Mac? Let's see if there's anything special about it. There's nothing about that that makes me think that it should be the most expensive Big Mac in the world. No truffles, no raclette, it's a Big Mac. And I like that, I'm not complaining about that.
But what about the stuff you can't get at McDonald's in the United States?
Switzerland has plenty to offer. This is the Steakhouse Classic: two patties of beef, bacon, some very bright orange sauce on a nice sesame seed bun. Let's see how it is. OK, the orange sauce is like a barbecue sauce. It's tangy. It's got a kick for sure. This color of it is kind of off-putting, but it actually tastes pretty good. So, yeah, I unlocked the secret of the Steakhouse Classic. You've gotta lap up that sauce with fries.
And now it's time to try something that you don't see in very many McDonald's, it's what they call the Quinoa Curry. This is a pretty ambitious offering for McDonald's. Obviously trying to appeal to the vegetarians out there. It's not bad, I mean, but, if you're gonna bring curry into the mix, you want it to pack a little bit more of a spice, more of a kick. This is pretty bland. But it's great that they have a vegetarian option here.
Now we have to try that old McDonald's standby, the fries. They've got these pommes frites sauce packets, so I'm gonna try that and see if that stands out from what you can get in the States. So, it's basically like mayonnaise. It's more of an aioli. I enjoy mayonnaise on fries, I do. I'm very European like that. I'm very continental and sophisticated. They charged me 20 cents for the pommes frites sauce. Shouldn't that be complimentary?
I'm gonna finish it off with the Toblerone McFlurry. So Swiss. It looks very creamy. There's a few chocolate chunks in there. That's amazing. That's so rich and creamy and sweet. That's delicious. I mean, it tastes kind of like a chocolate milkshake. Very good, I love that, I love that. But now you know what time it is. It's time to dip the fries in the Toblerone McFlurry. If you don't dip your fries in your milkshake, you're doing it wrong.
Time for a final review. I wanted to try a few things that you can't get in the States, the Quinoa Curry and the Steakhouse Classic. I wasn't too crazy about them. McDonald's has lasted for so long because they do the basics so well. The unsung hero of this experience, the surprise of this experience, was the Toblerone McFlurry. I highly recommend getting that. So, that's McDonald's in Switzerland. But in terms of whether or not the McDonald's in Switzerland is better than the McDonald's in the States, I'm neutral.
