Better RV MPG ~ Bringing A Gun Into Canada ~ Apple Beach RV Park ~ S3E48
We spent a few days with our very good friends Savannah and Mandy in Spokane. It has become a staple on our travel to Alaska and love hanging out with them! I begin this video a little outside of Spokane where we began our trip into Canada. We got some great news regarding our MPG. I think it was a combination of not giving the RV so much gas and flatter terrain. Regarding the gun situation. You are able to bring certain weapons into Canada. You can check on their website at I filed the non-resident firearm declaration that costs $25. With that you can enter the country three (3) times without paying the Fee. Both times I had that form from the previous entry I did not get searched. This was the first time not getting searched entering Canada from the lower 48 in 4 years! Then we make our way North to the city of Oliver where we stopped at an rv park to dump our tanks and fill our fresh water. It was called Apple Beach RV park but it has new owners and they be changing the name as I cant find it on Google anymore...

▷ Kelowna is a city in the south of Canada’s British Columbia province. It’s in the Okanagan Valley, on the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake, surrounded by provincial parks, pine forest, vineyards, orchards and mountains. Its downtown area incorporates waterfront City Park and a lakeside cultural district. More than 20 local vineyards offer wine tours and tastings.
▷ Peachland is a district municipality of over 5000 residents in the Okanagan Valley. It is located on the west side of Okanagan Lake in British Columbia, Canada.
▷ The Okanagan is a region in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It's known for its wineries and fruit orchards. The main city of Kelowna, on the shore of huge Okanagan Lake, is surrounded by pine forests and provincial parks. Kelowna's downtown area incorporates waterfront City Park and a lakeside cultural district. The area around the cities of Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops is home to several ski resorts.
▷ The unique 8-sided Peachland Baptist Church was constructed, mainly by volunteers, in 1910 and served as a place of worship until 1964. Over the years it has functioned as a temporary Municipal Hall, Parks and Recreation Office, Fire Brigade Hall and Public Library.
The picture on the left shows it under construction. Note the peach tree growing in the foreground. Since 1980 the building has housed the Peachland Museum and since 1981, the church building was declared an official British Columbia Heritage site.
Hundreds of historical artifacts, photographs, newspapers and documents are on display. Together, they offer a glimpse into the rich history of Peachland and its people.
The personal histories of pioneer Peachland families are documented in three volumes: Peachland Memories 1 & 2 and the 2009 Centennial Picture Book. The books are available for purchase at the Museum.

Vancouver Island Boondocking Free Camping On Vancouver Island Elk Bay Recreation Site
Vancouver Island Boondocking Free Camping On Vancouver Island Elk Bay Recreation Site - We explore a bit of Campbell River and set off to the Elk Bay Rec Site to enjoy some free oceanside camping.
Boondocking and free camping on Vancouver Island can be hard to come by unless you know where to look. Lucky for us, we came across the Backroad Mapbook which you can find here:
This map book details all the rec sites, trails, kayak routes and dispersed camping you can imagine. If paid itself off in the first night we owned it and is a must-have for people looking to boondock on Vancouver Island.
Info on the Elk Bay Rec Site can be found here:
Within the Sayward Forest, Elk Bay is one of only two developed recreation sites with access to the ocean. There are two parts to the site: the main camping area with the boat launch and a smaller, two unit site located on the other side of the creek. There are great panorama vistas looking across Discovery Passage to Quadra and Sonora Islands and the mountains beyond.
Driving Directions:From Campbell River, head north on Highway 19. Turn right just after Roberts Lake, onto the Elk Bay road (gravel) - about 33 km from town. Drive 11.3 km from the highway and you'll come to the junction of the Stella Lake road. Turn right, follow it for another 3.2 km and the road will split (log dump area straight ahead). Make a sharp right and carry on for another 0.7 km - you should reach the entrance to the main part of the site. The entrance to the small site is another 400 metres down the road.
Like and subscribe to follow our journey as we move into an RV full time to chase adventure and seek out true happiness and enlightenment.
We are Maddie and Mike and we are setting out on the adventure of a lifetime this summer. Join us as we hit the road and pursue our passions. We are artists and aspiring videographers/photographers who are using our passion for filmmaking to document our lives in preparation for a massive lifestyle change.
Now that we are living in an RV full time while traveling North America, we plan on uploading more often (pending our geographical location and availability of wifi).
We are full-time traveling artists and spend our free time relaxing in nature and exploring. Moving into an RV and traveling has been a dream of ours for a long time. We turned that dream into a goal and worked our asses off to save money, build a viable source of income on the road and minimize our possessions. We also reflected on what truly mattered in our lives. The apartment, cars, clothing and consumer products were actually consuming us! After months of purging and downsizing, we finally moved into our RV on May 15. We stayed for 2 months in an RV in Edmonton AB and saved on rent while continuing to work. This allowed the final push of saving money prior to taking off into the great unknown.
Now we are chasing adventure, seeking out new opportunities to display our art and make money while never forgetting to stop and smell the roses.
We are often faced with questions and comments regarding how we afford to live on the road in an RV. The truth is, saving enough money to take off was one of the easier parts of our preparation. Adjusting our daily and monthly habits to be as frugal as possible, learning how to be comfortable with less and developing a method to earn money from virtually anywhere were the real challenges. This lifestyle is addition by subtraction. Letting go of the routine, letting go of many of your possessions and letting go of the fear holding you back from such a big lifestyle change will grant you the freedom to actually LIVE your life. It may not be for everyone but life in an RV is definitely for us!
