Swim with dolphins VS assist a dolphin trainer
I have seen to many video here on Youtube that claims to be about swimming with dolphins but isn't, so I decided to make this video to show the difference between swimming and assisting.
Both programs is less than 25 minutes but I'm only showing 3 minutes from each of them and they are both recorded from a dolphin park called Adaland that is located on the north site of the town Kusadasi in Turkey.
In the first part of my video is the assisting program. The program was only about training the dolphins different kind of behaviors by using signals, whistle and fish to reward the dolphins with every time they have obeyed the signals correctly.
Both the dolphins and I was told what to do and when to do it through the entire program. The trainers gave most of the signals to the dolphins but the trainers asked me to also to give the dolphins 5 different kinds of signals to the dolphins and the 5 signals was for kiss, handshake, dance, sing and belly ride.
I have also been operating as a target for where the dolphins was asked to go to. The trainers was taking care of the rewarding part but I was asked to give a single fish to each dolphin.
All this means that I have only assisted the trainers with training their dolphins. The only difference is that the trainers is getting paid for doing their job of training the dolphins, while I have payed to assist the traniers with their job. That is so unfair but in least it was real living dolphins and not inflatable dolphins.
Now to the next part of my video that is the swimming program and the program was about swimming with the dolphins but also about playing with them. Both the dolphins and I was free to swim around together in the water as we pleased through the entire program. That was without doubt a far greater experience than the original assisting program :D
I have now visited Kusadasi for 6 years in a row and the first time was in 2010. In these 6 years I have been at 9 vacations in Kusadasi and in all these 9 years have Adaland always told all their customers that they can swim with their dolphins and Adaland did also call all those customers that bought a ticket for this program for swimmers.
Selling work to people but instead let them believe that they are paying to being swimming with their dolphins is in truth a stroke of genius but no one shall pee in my cup and then tell me that it is just tea. So remember this, if something sounds to good to be true, then it probably is.
Something else, in these 6 years there have been many change of both trainers and head trainers but only one of the head trainers did offer me a chance to drop the life jacket and then go swim with their dolphins for real instead of doing the original assisting program.
This head trainer has been the only person that ever have been loyal to the true meaning of the word swimming as Adaland always has and still call their program and because of that, so did Adaland fired this person for it, completely ironic I would say.
The head trainer deserve to get a second chance by getting a warning first instead of getting fired but this just tell me how intolerant the people that works at Adaland are.
I can only say that the kindness that this head trainer have shown toward me goes far beyond measurable and I owe this person far more that I'm ever are able to give. I really hope that this person have found a much better place where this person is being treated much better.
First in the end of 2014 did I found out that I actually need a visa if I wish to work outside of my country but I did never have this visa while I was participated in these 76 programs I have bought in Adaland through these first 4 years. Only 6 of the programs did I do something legally because I was swimming with the dolphins but the other 70 programs did I violated the law because I did do assisting work without a visa.
I have humiliated myself way to much already by paying for be working as a dolphin trainer assistant for to long time now, so pay for a visa on my next vacation to Kusadasi and then return to Adaland and buy even more of these assisting programs too, is definitely not going to happen, that's for sure :P
Now where I have been participated in so many assisting programs, then it's only fair that I can call myself for a professional dolphin trainer assistant :)
My point is not that I'm against that Adaland and other dolphin parks are selling work. In my country we also have a place called Fjord & Bælt and they also sell work to their guest but in least so does they make it clear at any ways that they will only be assisting a trainer.
Fjord & Bælt has never have any problem with atract costumers to their program even they are so hornest about what their program are about. If people a desperate enough, then they will go no matter what, so therefore do I not see why Adaland need to mislead their guest.
