Swimming with whales at Sandy Beach Resort, Foa Island, Ha'apai Islands, Tonga
Swimming with Humpback whales off Foa Island, Ha'apai Group, Tonga on 5 October 2016. The opening sequence shows a mother and her baby escorted by a male. The male then sees another male approaching and sees it off. Other scenes show a time-lapse of our group taking photos of the whales and also getting ready to swim on our boat, Tom Cat. Then there is footage of a baby playing near its mother while she is resting. A baby Humpback will drink about 50L of milk a day so Mum needs to have a sleep. The Humpback whales come to the warm waters of Tonga to mate and have their babies in a warm and safe environment. At the end of the breeding season when the babies are fat enough they will be escorted by a male who will stay with them until they reach the colder waters of Antartica, their main feeding ground. A truly magical experience.

Kayaking in Paradise: Sandy Beach Resort, Foa, Ha'apai, Tonga
The Sandy Beach Resort (Matafonua Lodge) in Tonga provides Kayaks free of charge for guests. Depending on the tide, the water is just right to kayak right above the coral for an amazing view and experience without risking to break any of the corals.

We managed to find ourselves among a group of six adults at one point. We went with the company Fins n Flukes, based just outside of Pangai village, and highly recommend them - very respectful towards and knowledgeable about the whales and their behaviour.
