Swissair 111 : The Untold Story - the fifth estate
At 10:31 p.m. on Sept. 2, 1998, Nova Scotians felt their homes shake as Swissair flight 111 slammed into the waters off Peggy's Cove, killing all on board. There were 229 passengers and crew, including a Saudi Prince and a relative of the late Shah of Iran. In the cargo hold, a half a billion dollars worth of gold, diamonds and cash.
Early into the crash investigation, the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada made a preliminary finding that the tragedy was the result of an accident. The TSB would ultimately point to a fire in the cockpit, likely sparked by an electrical fault. But there remained many unanswered questions and mysteries.
Years later, the crash remains one of Canada's greatest tragedies. Now new disturbing information from one of the crash investigators raises chilling questions about the official cause of the disaster.

Hey everyone!! ????????
Today's #Halifax vlog takes place in #PeggysCove and at the #SwissAirFlight111 memorial.
Peggy's Cove is only 45 minutes from our home in Dartmouth. So far this is one of our favorite spots. Love to climb on the rocks surrounding the lighthouse and to watch the waves crash against the shore.
Also visited the Swiss Air Flight 111 memorial in Peggy's Cove. Was haunting yet beautiful all at once.

CANADA: HALIFAX: VICTIMS' FAMILIES VISIT SITE OF SWISSAIR CRASH (2)
English/Nat
The search continues for the black box flight recorders from Swissair flight 111.
Signals have been detected coming from one of the plane's missing recorders, but preliminary dives have failed to find it.
In the meantime, Swissair officials said on Sunday they have been able to reconstruct the final moments of Flight 111 using a simulator.
The airline says the plane was flying too high and had too much fuel on board to make a direct approach to Halifax airport to which it made its first emergency call.
Relatives of the crash victims are still coming to terms with their loss.
More than 300 family members have flown to Halifax from New York - where the plane took off from - and Geneva, its intended destination.
Most of them were driven in chartered buses to Peggy's Cove - the tiny, picturesque fishing village near the ocean crash site that has become the base for the search operation.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
It's been a tough couple of days, obviously. The Peggy's Cove site is really an important part for the families of Swissair 111 in their process of trying to understand what happened, and to begin a long process of healing a deep hurt that the families have, and that indeed all those who are close to Swissair 111 have.

How can...all we can do is be support to the people around us. And we certainly have been praying for them and trying to provide as much comfort as we can, being individuals who haven't got training in comfort and grief, but having been through a certain amount of grief in our own lives - not like this - we are able to hopefully be a little bit of support.
