Australia welcomes 2020 with firework celebrations on Sydney Harbour
Sydney's New Year celebrations went off with a bang as hundreds of fireworks were launched from the Harbour Bridge at midnight.
It is a moment to enjoy for residents after the city was choked by thick smoke from wildfires.
But some campaigned for the event to be cancelled out of respect for those whose homes were destroyed in surrounding towns in New South Wales.

Sydney Chinese New Year Festival 2016
More than one million visitors enjoyed more than 70 events during Sydney's Chinese New Year Festival, confirming its stature as the largest and most successful outside Asia.
The festival's highlight event, the inaugural Lunar Lanterns, featured over 1,000 local performers and attracted more than six times the visitor numbers previously associated with the City's Twilight Parade.

悉尼農曆新年巡遊
Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is commonly called Lunar New Year, because it is based on the lunisolar Chinese calendar. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. Chinese New Year's Eve is known as chú xī. It literally means Year-pass Eve.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore launches Sydney's Lunar New Year festival | 7NEWS
Today marks the Chinese New Year, and festivals will ring in the second new moon after the winter solstice - also known as the Lunar New Year - as well as the start of spring.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore launched Sydney's Lunar New Year festival, which attracted 1.5 million people last year, in Chinatown and says there will be around 100 community events across the city.
2020 is seen as a year of new beginnings, and do we ever need a new beginning after our horrific summer of loss and devastation. And, in the Chinese zodiac, it's the start of a 12-year lunar calendar cycle with the rat being the first of the zodiac animals. - Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore

Is THIS the best sydney suburb for CHINESE FOOD?
If you read my descriptions.... Happy Lunar New year! my family go celebrate pretty hard for chinese new year, and even more so this year because it's rare we have so many people in the same place for Chinese New Year. It's usually a week long celebration for us but here's how i spent the first couple days.
Around two days before Chinese New Year is when you're supposed to clean everything - you wana avoid cleaning on the first day of the new year because apparently you end up washing away or sweeping away your luck - and no one wants that. lol. and then on chinese new year eve, we have this huge dinner with dishes that all have a meaning - pretty much the way the dish sounds is like a good luck phrase in chinese.
The new morning, we always have a vegetarian meal first thing - i always did it and never questioned it and it seems my grandma isnt too sure either, if you're reading this and you know why please let me know!
I ended up going into the city to check out the celebrations - i've never really done that before because its hot and very crowded but... i really wanted some photos and clips of the lion dance so off i went.
Anyway i hope you liked this vlog! it's a little all over the place so thank you for watching!!!
