Things to do in Hyams Beach, Jervis Bay & Eden: Melbourne to Sydney Drive
Discover the whitest sand beach in the world: Hyams Beach in Jervis Bay. The Sapphire Coast in New South Wales is an absolutely mind-blowing road trip if you're making your way from Melbourne to Sydney via the coastal route.
Did you miss Part 1 of our guide covering the best places to stop in Victoria? Watch it here:
After we said 'Sayonara' to Victoria and crossed into New South Wales, our first stop was the beautiful township of Eden, roughly a 4-hour drive from Lakes Entrance in Gippsland. From there, it's super easy to explore the vast and scenic Ben Boyd Park and the town's gorgeous beaches and coastlines.
2 days later, I've made up my mind about where I'm going to retire. Plans sorted. We then drove another 2 hours to Bermagui, which was a perfect halfway point to stretch our legs, whip out a picnic and run amuck at the stunning Blue Pool Bermagui. You absolutely have to stop here to admire and enjoy this incredible little spot and, if the weather permits, go for a dip inside.
The real stunner was Hyams Beach located in the bottom half of Jervis Bay in New South Wales. If you want to dig your feet into some of the finest and whitest sand beach in the world, then a few nights here (or even a week) is absolutely necessary. Only a 2-hour day trip from Sydney, Jervis Bay Australia is the perfect getaway from the city to get back in touch with nature. It certainly is one of the most breathtaking Sydney beaches, or probably, in all of Australia. Prove me wrong.
If Jervis Bay isn't on your Melbourne to Sydney itinerary, then you need to rejig that entire plan - right now.

Jenolan Caves, Blue Mountains region, Australia
The Jenolan Caves are in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, Australia. They are regarded as Australia's most outstanding caves and are amongst the best in the world. Also the cave system has been dated to 340 million years, making them the oldest known caves on Earth.
Jenolan's main attractions are the ten spectacular caves that are open to the public, filled with astonishing limestone formations. The caves are open all year. They are very popular, receiving 250,000 visitors per year. Jenolan Caves won awards for their array of tours, activities and facilities. Visitors can spend a couple of hours and see only 1 cave or stay for a week and have a thorough escape at Jenolan Caves. During school holidays and on long weekends you may find Jenolan Caves crowded, but there will be many more cave tours as well, to cater for all the visitors.
Walks in the rugged mountain bush are clearly marked and free of charge. Easier walks take you around the Blue Lake or along the Jenolan River, passed waterfalls and Australia's first hydroelectricity plant. More strenuous walks take you to high lookouts and past natural arches. On any walk, you may encounter Australian native wildlife such as kangaroos and platypuses. Jenolan Caves is in a huge nature reserve, part of the Blue Mountains World Heritage area.
Guided tours of spectacular 'show' caves are available continuously every day and cost between $29 and $40 per adult. Family tickets are available. When you purchase a 'show' cave ticket you also get a 'Jenolan Pass' which lets you access a self-guided tour of the 'twilight' Nettle Cave. There are 10 'show' caves to choose from, each tour 1 to 2 hours. Each cave is breathtaking and some are more strenuous than others. You can just turn up and join the next tour, or if you want to tour a particular cave, you can book ahead.
Ghost tours are available on Wednesday and Saturday nights at 8PM. You must book ahead for this serious torchlight tour, on which gimmicks, sound effects, etc., are never used. Your guide will tell you tales of the unexplained, often from their own experiences.

What to do in Sydney | Blue Mountains | Palm Beach
Sydney, a ton of stuff to do in and outside the city. To discover the city in New South Wales situated on the Tasman Sea, I recommend a free tour which will guide you through its history and the liveliest parts of the city centre among which of course one of the highlights of modern architecture in the buzzing Sydney Harbour: the Sydney Opera House.
But there is so much more… from the empty bird cages above Angel Place to the amazing tasteful fish and meat establishments.
Want to escape the city? Visit Bondi Beach, the classic beach where Australian ‘surfing life’ originated. Or take a ferry to Manly. Enjoy the beautiful laid-back beach and the perfect waves and sandbanks (the first world surfing contest was held here!). In need of time to relax? Take a 3 till 4 hour relaxing walk along the natural Manly shoreline.
Pure and fresh air you’ll find in the Blue Mountains, 2 hours outside Sydney. Waterfalls, valleys and eucalypt forests will be your companion in this – aboriginal - World Heritage area. Tired of hiking; just chill in Palm Beach, the set of the television soap opera Home & Away and a resort for many famous people… just like you!
And… if you want to leave the city but you don’t want to rent a car… pick a Sunday. All the public transport in and around the city is $2.70 for the whole day! Enjoy Vivid Sydney!

Captain Cook Cruises BIG Profile and Contacts
Middle Harbour Yacht Club BIG Profile and Contacts
Sailaway Sydney BIG Profile and Contacts
Catalina's Rose Bay BIG Profile and Contacts
For this episode of Big Escapes, we're exploring the gorgeous coastline of Sydney Harbour. Join us as Captain Josh unfurls the sails of his yacht, The Ephemeral, Rachel docks harbourside for a fine dining experience, and I visit one of Sydney's oldest and most prestigious sailing clubs. First, though, Christy embarks on a tour of the harbour aboard the gorgeous decks of the Sydney 2000.
Christy: Now, Captain Cook Cruises have had close to half a decade to refine their fine dining and tour services, and what they've come up with is absolutely impeccable.
Richard: We've got around about 18 vessels on Sydney Harbour. The one you're on today is our hallmark vessel, Sydney 2000. It has 5 dining spaces, it seats over 650 people, and really is the best Sydney dining harbour cruise boat you could go on.
Christy: Now today, we've enjoyed some beautiful ravioli with spinach and feta, and some salmon with asparagus, and now I'm gonna try the delicious coconut mousse. But whether you're looking to come aboard just for a tour of Sydney Harbour, that is definitely an option right through to your six-course degustation options.
Richard: I'm really proud of the product that we deliver, from our lunchtime product to our dining product that includes, obviously, a six-course degustation meal, which I must say has gotta be one of the best dining experiences in Sydney.
Matt: Home to the Australian sailing team, this highly decorated club is a hub for sailors of all skill levels, whether you're still just learning the ropes or you're a seasoned professional competing in international regattas. Middle Harbour Yacht Club lies on the shores of The Spit, some 7 kilometers north of Sydney's CBD. With over 1,500 members, they're one of Australia's largest yacht clubs and recognized as national leaders in sail training and associated education programs.
Karen: 1939 was when the club first started and it has a great, long history of sailing over those years. We've now opened our doors and we are the home of the Australian sailing team. So we have all the budding and potential Olympic sailors now training out of here.
Matt: At the highest level of competition in sailing, members and their boats have continued a tradition of excellence, winning all of Australia's national events and bringing home many international honors.
Matt: If you're looking for a relaxing cruise around the harbour but don't wanna take in Sydney's scenic foreshore and famous landmarks from behind a fourth deck glass window, then come aboard The Ephemeral for a true sailing experience. Sailaway Sydney is one of the most affordable ways to view Sydney Harbour from the water, stopping off at beautiful locations like the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, Watsons Bay. And on a day like this, I'm looking forward to it.
Josh: So the boat's a 33-foot Bavaria, brand new. It's fairly luxurious and well-designed. It makes the most of the space and feels quite roomy. We're one of the cheapest activities on the harbour. We get most time for your money.
Matt: What a stunning time I had on Sydney Harbour today. I got to drive the yacht, I learned a lot about sailing. Our captain, fantastic service. Any more information, check them out on sailawaysydney.com.au
Matt: After all your adventures on the harbour, why not dock at Catalina's jetty and wind down with a cocktail or choose something from the menu of their hatted restaurant for an exquisite dining experience.
Rachel: Catalina is an exquisite restaurant in Rose Bay and the views are just to die for.
Rachel: The service is impeccable. It's not stiff though, it's fun and friendly, and the staff will welcome you with open arms. They boast a massive menu of really divine food.
James: Catalina is fresh, simple food in the most spectacular environment in Sydney.
Rachel: They also have a great wine list and cocktails to die for.
Judy: You should expect to be pleased, you should expect a warm greeting. You should expect lovely...
Matt: Keep watching Big Review TV for more episodes of Big Escapes, where we take you to our favorite places.
