THE ANCIENT SYNAGOGUE BEIT ALFA-ISRAEL
Nahal Amud or Pillar Stream in the Galilee of Israel
The Nahal Amud or Pillar Stream is a beautiful stream in the Galilee protected in the Nahal Amud Nature Reserve. The stream originates 800 meters above sea level at the Dalton Plateau in the Upper Galilee and flows southward into the Sea of Galilee. A very popular hiking attraction for Israelis, the Nahal Amud trail rambles past orchards, Mount Meron backdrops, and clear swimming holes and of course the large amud or stone pillar for which the stream is named.

Mount Arbel and Nahal Amud in Galile and

*Mount Arbel (Hebrew: הר ארבל, Har Arbel) is a mountain in The Lower Galilee near Tiberias in Israel,
with high cliffs, views of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, trails to a cave-fortress, and ruins of an
ancient synagogue. Mt. Arbel sits across from Mount Nitai; their cliffs were created as a result of the
Jordan Rift Valley and the geological faults that produced the valleys.
Nearby are the ruins of an ancient Jewish settlement with a Synagogue from the fourth century C.E. with
extend pews and columns, and dug into the mountain itself are a number of cliff dwellings
There are documented Jewish cliff
dwellings dating back to the Second temple period, in the area, few standing stones left from
synagogues from that period. Josephus writes about the Roman conquest of some of the last
Hasmonean rebels who dwelt in the cliffs of Mt Arbel
*Nahal Yehudiya Hikes -- waterfalls and pools in the Yehudiya Forest Nature Reserve in golan hights.
*The Nahal Amud (Hebrew: נחל עמוד), also known as the Wadi Amud, is a stream in the Upper Galilee
that spills into the Sea of Galilee.
The stream's source, Ramat Dalton, is located 800 meters above sea level. Its drainage basin includes
the peaks of Mount Canaan (955 meters) and Mount Meron (1,204 meters) and flows south through
eastern Galilee to the northwest part of the Sea of Galilee - a height of less than 200 meters below sea
level. The stream is named after a pillar that rises high above ground and is located near a channel of
the stream near Kibbutz Hokuk.
Meron - Aerial views (BibleWalks.com)
Meron is a modern Moshav, famous for the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (Rashbi) which attracts tens of thousands in the annual festival of Lag Ba-Omer.
Ruins of the Roman/Byzantine and Arab periods village are scattered around the summit in the center of the modern community. Rock hewn tombs are located around the site.
A grand 3rd century synagogue is located on the summit. The basilica style structure, cut into the bedrock, is one of the largest ancient synagogues, used as an example for other Galilean synagogues erected in the Byzantine period. Its plan is a large room with a set of 8 columns on each side, and 3 door entrances on the south east facade. This aerial footage focuses on the synagogue and the tower located on its west side.
The area may have been known in the Biblical periods as Mei Merom, one of Joshua's victorious battles against the Canaanites.
Biriya forest. Almond Spring, Navoraya Spring, Gever Spring. The ancient synagogue near Dalton River
Hiking through the Biriya forest to the Almond spring, the Navoraya spring, the Gever spring. The Biriya forest is located near Safed, Upper Galilee. This forest is the largest artificially planted forest in Israel. We can see the place of the confluence of the Navoraya stream into the Dalton River. Unfortunately, in September, almost of all these rivers and springs are drying up. The ruins of an ancient synagogue are above the Dalton River.

With God’s help, all of the Jewish people will be living in unity in Israel. But until all of our brothers and sisters make Aliyah or come to visit, we decided to recreate the Israel experience on camera, to give everyone a virtual tour of what it’s like living in the holy land on a normal day. Ride around with us on public transportation through the city, or take a bus with us to holy graves and historic sites. Follow us as we walk around the streets and alleys of ancient Jerusalem, interview tourists visiting for holidays, and talk to the locals about the history. There’s no doubt that Passover, Sukkot, Chanuka (Hanukkah) and Purim here are an experience that everyone should have, and we’re going to capture the atmosphere all on video, and have tourists explain what they most spiritually connect to here in Jerusalem. We’re going to be walking around the old city of Jerusalem, visiting Tel-Aviv, Haifa, Netanya, Be’er Sheba, Tazfat ( Safed) , Meron, Tveria (Tiberias), Ashdod, Eilat, and all the other favorite tourist locations. We’ll be taking hikes in the Golan, backpacking around the Negev, and swimming in the Dead Sea. Israel makes the Torah (Bible – Old Testament) feel so real and alive, and we’re going to capture a taste of what life here feels like for a normal citizen. All the Israeli news and TV channels like Arutz Sheva, Jerusalem Post, Haaretz, VICE news, CNN, BBC and The New York Times, only report the occasional extreme terrorism and terrorist attacks, boring international politics, Orthodox VS Secular conflicts, and IDF military operations. We’re making a reality news channel to show you what it’s like to live in Jerusalem, to go shopping in the Jerusalem market, and to taste all the local traditional foods at the restaurants and cafes. Falafel and shawarma anyone? Israel has some of the most talented street performers in the world, and we’ll show you the side of Israel Got Talent that is too good for the television series as we check out the street entertainers in the merkaz, watching Middle Eastern entertainment at its finest. And most importantly, for those experienced travelers who are more interested in old fashioned tourism, we’ll be going to all the historic sites and archaeological digs, like the Kotel (Western Wall, Wailing Wall) by the Temple Mount, The City of David, Ancient Synagogues all over Israel, Ancient Graveyards, the Mediterranean coast, and Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), as well as all the mystical Kabbalistic locations. And of course, the Emunah Channel team is going to be following Rav Dror Moshe Cassouto around before and after classes, talking to him about the soul and Hashem, as usual. Israel is the most scenic and exciting country in the world. It’s our homeland, the Jewish homeland, and is so full of vibrant life. Join us! Come Visit! Make Aliyah! Or just book a one-way flight ticket like I did! See you soon, the Emunah Project team can’t wait to interview you and hear your story!

Day 5
Today a different kind of adventure awaits -- a spiritual one.

If you really are adventurous (and male), you can try to bathe in the freezing waters of the Ari Mikveh near the old cemetery, which is believed to bring good luck.
In the afternoon drive along the shore of the Sea of Galilee where, according to Christian tradition, Jesus walked on water.
Continue to the archeological remains of Beit Shean, a city with over 6000 years of history. Climb the ancient tell for a fantastic view and to explore the biblical ruins. Below, visit the huge Roman theater, bathhouse and main street from Byzantine times.
