Sywell, Mears Ashby & Sywell Reservoir Walk, Northamptonshire Walks, Route & Scenery
Sywell, Mears Ashby & Sywell Reservoir Walk was about 5.5 miles in distance. The terrain of the route was a mainly field paths with a lakeside path and woodland path; plus some short roads and pavements. The walking was easy on level or gently undulating ground. Route finding was mostly easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. However, some field paths had been ploughed over, so some guesswork or walking around field edges was required. Some of the paths can be muddy after rain. Between Mears Ashby and Sywell Reservoir the route followed a section of the Northamptonshire Round long distance path. There were 3 stiles to negotiate and 1 gate to climb over.
Along the walk you visit: Sywell village and Mears Ashby Village; Sywell Reservoir and Sywell Country Park. Scenery includes: crop fields and woodland; the 13th century St Peter and St Paul Church in Sywell; All Saints Church in Mears Ashby; Sywell Reservoir and part of Sywell Country Park; lovely countryside dwellings. You may also see gulls, waterfowl and waders around Sywell Reservoir.
I did this walk with my wife Anne whilst on a combined cat sitting and Cambridgeshire walking holiday during September 2018. We drove from our holiday accommodation near St Ives, Cambridgeshire to the starting location of Sywell, Northamptonshire. We parked at the roadside near St Peter and St Paul Church, grid reference SP 821 671, which was also the start location of the walk.

Canal? at Royal Ordnance Depot Weedon Bec
I visited the Royal Ordnance Depot at Weedon Bec, Northamptonshire during the Heritage Open Days week in September 2018.
The Depot was established in the early 1800s in a central country location, to be away from the coast and was a secure place to store equipment, ammunition and weapons for the British Army. The original complex included Artillery Barracks and a Parade Ground and was extended in the late 1800s to provide additional warehousing. The canal that runs through the centre of the site was a spur off the Grand Union Canal. A short section of the spur remains in a modern housing estate where it branched off the canal. There was also a railway track on one side, which was protected by a bomb proof shelter during the second world war.
The Royal Army Ordnance Corps moved out of Weedon Depot on February 16, 1965. Following a period of use by the Ministry of Supply, the surviving Depot warehouses passed into private hands in the 1980s and are currently occupied by a number of small companies for stores, workshops, retail use and offices. A visitor centre has recently opened. The buildings and perimeter wall are Grade II* Listed.

A Photo walk along Blisworth Canal in Northampton.
The beautiful Catherine and I went for a walk along Blisworth canal. Stopping on the way for some landscape photography. We walked, in total, about 11 miles. First through a small woodland area, then along the canal itself and then over fields back to Northampton. It was a beautiful day and a joy to be out and about.
Wellingborough
Wellingborough is a market town and borough in Northamptonshire, England, situated 11 miles from the county town of Northampton. The town is situated on the north side of the River Nene, most of the older town is sited on the flanks of the hills above the river's current flood plain. Due to frequent flooding by the River Nene, the town was mostly built above the current level of the flood plain. Originally named Wendelingburgh, the town was founded in the early 6th century Saxon period by a Saxon leader called Waendel and is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name of Wendelburie. The town was granted a royal market charter in 1201, by King John of England.
As of 2011 the census states the borough has a population of 75,400, which the town itself accounts for 49,087. The town of Wellingborough is governed by The Borough Council of Wellingborough, with their office located in the town centre. The town is twinned with Niort in France, and with Wittlich in Germany.
