It's Christmas Day!
We are so excited to share this beautiful day with you!
If you have been following us for a while you, you'll know that we don't have our own permanent home, therefore we never buy anything materialistic nor gift anything to each other. Instead, we chose to have an experience and spend a day together doing something special!
This Christmas was just exactly how we wanted it to be! We booked our tickets online in advance and spent a good few hours soaking up all the minerals in Széchenyi Thermal Baths.
We highly recommend this activity for everyone!

The Széchenyi Medicinal Bath in Budapest is the largest medicinal bath in Europe. Its water is supplied by two thermal springs, their temperature is 74 °C and 77 °C. Components of the thermal water include sulfate, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and a significant amount of metaboric acid and fluoride.

SZECHENYI THERMAL SPA BATHS, BUDAPEST
The Szechenyi thermal spa baths are not only the largest thermal spring bath complex in Budapest and Hungary, but they are also the biggest in Europe.
Built in 1913 in a very distinct neo-baroque style, the mens and womens pools and bathing areas were separate.
The Szechenyi baths complex was expanded in 1927, with three outdoor and 15 indoor pools. With this additional size, came an additional requirement for more thermal spring water, so a second thermal spring was found, dug and connected in 1938.
They are THE Budapest baths to visit for anyone visiting Budapest, but remember, it is just like sharing a giant warm bath with loads of strangers :)
And no, that's not me having a pee at 1m 12s.

Szechenyi Bath is the biggest and most popular of all the thermal baths in Budapest. What is more, it is one of the biggest natural hot spring spa baths in Europe too. Szechenyi Bath is 100 years old in 2013, and throughout its century old history, about a 100 millions of bathers have enjoyed the warm medicinal waters and the fun pools.
Why Budapest Is The Thermal Bath Capital Of The World
Often referred to as the City of Spas, Budapest sits on over 100 hot springs that feed into over a dozen thermal baths, many of which date back centuries. One of the more well-known baths was built by the Turks in 1566. All across the city, visitors can experience a variety of thermal bath experiences, from calming therapeutic spas to lively and entertaining bath parties.
According to Hungary Today, Budapest spas attracted 4.5 million visitors in 2017, with Budapest’s biggest hot spot, Széchenyi, drawing in 1.7 million visitors alone. Learn more about what makes Budapest the thermal bath capital of the world.

I've heard of dinner and a movie, but dinner and a bath? That is what I did my last full day of my summer journey. Come along for a swim at the famous Széchenyi thermal bath in Budapest Hungary, followed by a dinner at the historic Budapest restaurant Karpatia!

According to Wikipedia...
The Széchenyi Medicinal Bath in Budapest (Hungarian: Széchenyi-gyógyfürdő) is the largest medicinal bath in Europe. Its water is supplied by two thermal springs, their temperature is 74 °C (165 °F) and 77 °C (171 °F), respectively.
Components of the thermal water include sulphate, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and a significant amount of fluoride acid and metaboric acid. Medical indications are on degenerative joint illnesses, chronic and sub-acute joint inflammations, as well as orthopaedic and traumatological post-treatments.
The bath can be found in the City Park, and was built in 1913 in Neo-baroque style to the design of Győző Czigler. The construction of the bath began on 7 May 1909. Designed by architect Eugene Schmitterer, The bath, named in the news as the Artesian spa, opened on 16 June 1913. The name of bath had been Széchenyi spa. The pool construction cost approximately 3.9 million Austro-Hungarian korona. The built-up area was 6,220 square meter. The attendance of spa was in excess of 200,000 people in 1913. (This number was already 890,507 in 1919). At that time it had private baths, separate men and women steam-bath sections, and different men / women public baths. The complex was expanded in 1927, and it still has 3 outdoor and 15 indoor pools. After its expansion, the thermal artesian well could not fulfill its purpose, so a new well was drilled. The second thermal spring was found in 1938. The depth of the thermal spring is 1256m, the temperature is 77 °C and it supplies 6.000.000 litres (1 585 032 US gallons) of hot water daily. Between 1999 and 2009 the full reformation of the Széchenyi thermal bath took place within the confines of a blanket reconstruction.
Main swimming and thermal sections are possible to visit mixed. The bath was named after István Széchenyi.

Visiting the Széchenyi Baths in BUDAPEST, HUNGARY
We spent a couple days exploring Budapest, coming to the city mostly to spend a day in the famous Széchenyi Baths, indoor/outdoor thermal baths in which you can relax and enjoy. While in Budapest we also visited a traditional Hungarian street market, walked around the Buda Castle, tried different foods, saw a Hungarian rapper/musician, and I got a haircut!
