Our family is on a road trip from Lafayette, LA vlogging our travels from the Summer of 2016. We stopped for lunch at the City Park in Alexandria, LA and let the kids burn some energy.
We packed our car for a Summer Family Road Trip. We're headed from South Louisiana to Oklahoma. Our first stop was in Alexandria, LA at City Park so that the kids could play and we could eat lunch since it was lunchtime.
If you are looking for things to do in Alexandria, LA, the city park is a great place to have some family fun, such as:
- playing on the playground
- playing at the splash pad / water playground
- eating under the pavilion or at the picnic tables
This city park is also adjacent to the Alexandria Zoo if you have more time to spend in Alexandria, LA.
The playground at this city park was really neat. It looks like a tree house and has these fun rocks that you can climb on. They also have woodland creatures carved into the plastic tree structure that holds up the playground.

We also love to talk about money and finance since we became debt-free using the Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover.

Large tornado caught on camera in Louisiana
At least one death has been reported in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, amid dangerous storms on Monday, local authorities said.
Images posted by the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office show widespread damage including downed power lines and a tree fallen on top of a home.
At least seven tornadoes have been reported in Louisiana and Mississippi. This is part of a major storm system stretching from the South, to the Midwest and into the Northeast.

The Unicorn of Alexandria Louisiana!
Just yesterday, a mysterious man dressed as a unicorn was walking down the street when a local news station saw him. The news reporter was originally reporting on a branch that fell in some guy’s yard. He was not expecting to see what he had seen. The man in the unicorn costume was walking by and frightened the neighbors. Some people were more scared than others and called the police on the man. Apparently, it’s illegal to roam the streets dressed as mythical creatures without a permit or license. The police arrived practically within seconds to confront the man. They said the man was so dangerous that the swat team was involved in pursuing him as he took flight to avoid paying a fine of $750. Once they did catch the man, he was brought into the station for questioning. “I did not know it was illegal,” claimed the man, “but I do not regret what I did and I’ll do it again without hesitation.” Unicorn-Man, as the locals call him, was just a myth now proven to be real. The video confirms this as true.

Alexandria/USA Birthday Celebration 2014
The City will celebrate its 265th and the USA's 238th birthday on Saturday, July 12, from 7-10 p.m. at Oronoco Bay Park. The celebration features music, food, and fun for the entire family. The featured performance of the evening is a concert by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra at 8:30 p.m., culminating with a Grand Fireworks Finale featuring Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with cannon support by the United States Marine Corps Basic Training School beginning at 9:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, fireworks only will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 13 at 9:30 p.m.

The big mass you are seeing over those trees is one of the tornadoes that came thru my town last night; My dad took this footage from my balcony, and you can see the atmosphere swirling right in front of us. The tornado was not a funnel, they called it a wedge; it was a mass of 200-300 yards of destructive winds. It was crazy! As it passed, we felt this huge gust of wind and we heard the noise a tornado makes. And then just like that, it was calm.
