Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani held bilateral talks in Yerevan on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) leaders' summit.
Putin and Rouhani's previous meeting took place last month in Turkey, and the Russian leader said he was glad to have the opportunity to resume our discussions on issues such as the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Syria and situation in the Persian Gulf.
Rouhani on his part said that Moscow and Tehran are in a sensitive region, and, unfortunately, in recent weeks we have seen certain negative issues here. Wherever we interact, our ultimate goal is peace, stability and security.
The EAEU summit is aimed at building closer economic ties and cooperation between the bloc's member states, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, as well as with non-member countries.
