Taiwan High Speed Rail inaugurates stations in Miaoli, Changhua, and Yunlin
The Taiwan High Speed Rail inaugurated three new stations today: Miaoli, Changhua, and Yunlin. The event attracted a large crowd this morning eager to board the very first train servicing these new stations. The railway is offering a special “buy one get one free offer” for travel to these stations for a limited time as well as lowering fares across the board. But actually we are stopping at just one out of every three stations and the added travel time is within the range that commuters can accept. At the Miaoli Station early in the morning, a large crowd of people boarded the first train and snapped many photographs.To celebrate the opening of these new stations, for the next 15 days those commuters whose final destination is Miaoli, Changhua, or Yunlin, can exchange their ticket stub for another ticket. Additionally, the high speed rail has lowered fares across the board by 10 percent with fare between Taipei and Kaohsiung reverting to their original NT$1490. The railway hopes lower prices will stimulate more passenger traffic.

Land subsidence affecting Yunlin High Speed Railway Station spurs local officials into action
A survey by Taiwan High Speed Rail and Yunlin County’s Water Resources Department found that Taiwan High Speed Rail Yunlin Station sank by 6.6 cm last year. The findings, which have revealed Yunlin Station as the most serious such case among all high speed rail stations, have forced the County to expand its review of the railway line and implement measures prohibiting new construction that places undue pressure on local soil. Taiwan High Speed Rail trains approach speeds of 200 kilometers per hour. Such speeds require tracks to be level, otherwise the threat of an accident could arise. These recent findings have prompted the Yunlin County Water Resources Department and the THSR to conduct thorough yearly reviews of land subsidence.According to the latest survey, land subsidence at THSR Yunlin Station in Huwei reached 6.6 centimeters, surpassing the previous land subsidence record held by a high speed rail section in Yunlin located at the intersection of Taiwan Provincial Highway 78.Hsu Hung-boYunlin County Water Resources Director Two years ago, the whole hydrological situation was quite bad and it manifested itself uniformly over this large area.Last year’s island-wide drought limited the amount of water which was able to replenish underground water sources, forming the major cause of current subsidence. To avoid further subsidence affecting rail service, Yunlin County has decided to expand its review from an original scope of 60 meters around rail sections to 150 meters. It will also avoid new building which could cause excessive pressure on the land. For the moment, the THSR assures that the issue does not pose a safety risk for high speed rail passengers.

A guide to Taiwan's High Speed Rail (THSR), Taipei, Taiwan vlog EP #1
THSR is a high-speed rail line approximately 345KM in length running along the west coast of Taiwan from Taipei Main Station in the north to Kaohsiung in the south.
There is discounted unlimited pass also available at klook 3 days pass, 5days pass. I have mentioned link below for more information.
The travel time from Taoyuan Airport to HSR Taoyuan station about 20 min and from station to Taichung by high speed rail is approximately 40 minutes.
12 THSR stations: Nangang, Taipei, Banqiao, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan and Zhuoying.
As of January 2018, a one-way Taipei–Zuoying trip, a THSR Standard Car adult ticket is NT$1490; a Business Car ticket fare is NT$1950.[41] The cost of a non-reserved seat is approximately 3% less than the regular price. Business and standard car reserved ticket reservations are available 28 days prior to the date of departure

Itinerary for the Day
1) Departure from Alishan National Forest Recreation Area (by van) to Taiwan High Speed Rail, Chiayi Station (83 kilometers/51 miles).
2) Taiwan High Speed Rail, Chiayi Station to Yunlin Station (10 minutes)
3) Yunlin to Huwei (by taxi, 7 minutes)
Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) is the high-speed railway of Taiwan consisting of one line that runs approximately 350 km (217 mi) along the west coast, from the capital Taipei to the southern city of Kaohsiung. With construction and operations managed by a private company, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC; TWSE: 2633), which also operates the line, the total cost of the project was NT$513.3 billion in 1998. At the time it was built, this was one of the world's largest privately funded rail construction schemes. The system is based primarily on Japan's Shinkansen.
The railway opened for service on 5 January 2007, with trains running at a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), currently running from Nangang to Zuoying in as little as 1 hour and 45 minutes, reaching almost 90% of Taiwan's population. Most intermediate stations on the line lie outside the cities served; however, a variety of transfer options, such as free shuttle buses, conventional rail, and metros have been constructed to facilitate transport connections.
Ridership initially fell short of forecasts, but grew from fewer than 40,000 passengers per day in the first few months of operation to over 129,000 passengers per day in June 2013. Daily passenger traffic reached 130,000 in 2014, well below the forecast of 240,000 daily passengers for 2008. The system carried its first 100 million passengers by August 2010 and over 200 million passengers had taken the system by December 2012, followed by 400 million by December 2016.
In the initial years of operation, THSRC accumulated debt due to high depreciation charges and interest, largely due to the financial structure set up for the private company. In 2009, THSRC negotiated with the government to change the method of depreciation from depending on concessions on rights to ridership. At the same time, the government also started to help refinance THSRC's loans to assist the company so it could remain operational and profitable. The government injected NT$30 billion as a financial bailout, boosting the government's stake to about 64% from about 37%. The government also extended the rail concession from 35 years to 70 years and terminated the company's build-operate-transfer business model.
