Ta Som Guesthouse Siem Reap Cambodia - a guesthouse which I can really recommend. It is clean and cheap. Not to fare away from pub street - about 10-15 Minutes walking. Although it is close to a busy mainstreet it is quiet. TV, Aircondition and a big room - all I needed.
Ta Som Temple; Siem Reap, Cambodia
Ta Som Temple is one of the smaller temples and was built at the very end of the 12th century. It was designed to be entered from the East and is surrounded by a moat. The entrance ways are cross shaped and have a room with windows at each end. This Temple is built Banyan Style and has four large head figures inside. It is another Temple that had been overgrown with jungle vegetation and is still under restoration. Enjoy the video !

There are artifacts during some segments where I was walking during video shooting caused by the video stabilization SW. Looking to get the new GoPro gimbal to take care of this in the future.

Cambodia, Siem Reap - Ta Som (2018)
Temples of Siem Reap - Ta Prohm, Ta Som, Neak Pean, Preak Khan – 4K
Today is the last full day of our Vietnam, Cambodia adventure with “Great Rail Journeys”, but that did not mean a relaxing day by the pool. We were up early ready to visit more awe inspiring mystical palaces and temples around Siem Reap. The places we visit today exude a real air of mystery, half ruined with massive trees, not just growing around them, but becoming an integral part of them. It’s no wonder film makers have made good use of these awesome settings, no studio set could every replicate. They ooze with the mysteries and customs of long forgotten ancient cultures. The lake surrounding Preak Khan is Mother mature and man combining their talents to create beauty that has to be seen to be believed. The time finally comes to bid a fond farewell to Cambodia and Vietnam as we board our plane home, admiring London from above as we come in to land at Heathrow.

Ta Som Temple, Siem Reap Cambodia
Ta Som (Khmer: ប្រាសាទតាសោម) is a small temple at Angkor, Cambodia, built at the end of the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII. It is located north east of Angkor Thom and just east of Neak Pean. The King dedicated the temple to his father Dharanindravarman II (Paramanishkalapada) who was King of the Khmer Empire from 1150 to 1160. The temple consists of a single shrine located on one level and surrounded by enclosure laterite walls. Like the nearby Preah Khan and Ta Prohm the temple was left largely unrestored, with numerous trees and other vegetation growing among the ruins.[1] In 1998, the World Monuments Fund (WMF) added the temple to their restoration program and began work to stabilise the structure to make it safer for visitors.
Designed to be entered from the east, Ta Som is surrounded by a moat and enclosed by three laterite walls which are broken by two sets of gopura (entrance ways). The gopuras are cross-shaped and contain a small room on each side along with windows containing balusters. The main structure of the gopura are carved with four faces in the Bayon style.[1] The eastern outer gopura has been overgrown by a sacred fig (Ficus religiosa) which has grown down through the blocks that make up the gopura and into the ground.[3] The inner section of the temple consists of a central cruciform sanctuary with porches at each arm surrounded by four corner pavilions. Two small libraries sit on either side of the eastern entrance path.

Restoration
According to the APSARA Authority who manage the temples in the Angkor Park, little restoration work had been done at Ta Som until the 1950s. At this time some propping of structures that were near collapse was carried out. After the WMF added Ta Som to their project, the WMF team began to document and interpret the site and carry out emergency stabilization of fragile structures and improvement to visitor flow around the monument. In 2007, WMF and the APSARA Authority conducted clearing and documentation works that allowed the temple to be accessed from all four sides. Many sandstone blocks were repaired and this allowed the reconstruction of the North Central Fronton of the North Gopura.
