Created by RV925 Ventures under the aegis of its prime mover, Limon Valeros a.k.a. Pinoy Underground. Featuring Filipino actor/politician Alfred Vargas and Filipina commercial model cum movie and tv actress Marinella Sheen Oania. All rights reserved.
Episode 02 of 04 of the Batangas Escapade featuring the Taal Lake Yacht Club, which forms part of Destination: Philippines, a weekly one-hour ecotourism and responsible travel television program, created and produced by RV925 Ventures in 2012 for NET 25.
By and large, Destination: Philippines highlights, first and foremost, development efforts in the country’s long list of great travel destinations, updates on activities and news regarding Philippine ecotourism, over and above significant environmental and social concerns.
On the whole, Destination: Philippines is more than a travelogue. It does not only offers TV viewers with loads of relevant information on some of the country’s most opulent sought after “hotspots,” it also seeks to raise awareness about being socially and ecologically responsible while traveling.
Destination: Philippines, in effect, endeavors to positively portray Philippines as a must-see travel destination at home and internationally, not only because of its enviable, extraordinary and impressive tourism potentials but also due to its vital and substantial efforts to make travel and tourism more sustainable.
In essence, Destination: Philippines is about having fun on vacation without hurting the environment!
Our previous episodes featured, among others, development efforts in some of the country’s ideal tourist destinations: Ilagan Sanctuary, Ilagan, Isabela; Hundred Islands, Alaminos, Pangasinan; Bataan Natural Park and Roosevelt Protected Landscape in Bataan; Hinulugang Taktak National Park and Pamitinan Protective Landscape in Rizal; La Mesa Eco-Park and Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City; Mt. Isarog Natural Park and Panicuason Hot Springs in Camarines Sur; Taal Volcano Protected Landscape in Batangas; Mt. Palay Palay/Mataas na Gulod Protected Landscape and Mt. Pico de Loro in Cavite; Penablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape in Cagayan; and the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras, vis-à-vis sustainable tourism, over and above other environment concerns.

Taal Island Crater Lake Talisay Philippines
The owner of San Roque Paradise Resort organised for her son to take us in his bangka to the Taal Lake Island for a pleasant early morning climb before it gets too hot up to the top of the ridge for splendid views over the crater lake inside the island. It was a truly wonderful experience and definitely well worth the adventure.

Moving on-
Last June 29-30, 2018, a group of my friends whom I refer to as the VlogSquad had a staycation weekend at Talisay, Batangas. Our celebration was in lieu of our friend Kat coming back for vacation from Japan. We booked our accommodation via airbnb for roughly around Php 8,000.
The entire rest house is good for 8 pax initially. But should you wish to exceed, there'll just be an additional cost per head. There are two rooms available and 1 common bathroom within the house. Around the premises though, there are two other bathrooms. Both rooms have 1 queen-sized bed, and 1 double decker bed.
Other amenities include a pool which you can rent for Php 400 for your whole stay there, kayaks for rent as well, a basketball court, kitchen, gazebo with an overlooking view, and a party boat. There are packages you can can avail that involve trekking to Taal Lake for a swim, as well as taking a boat there. Due to the absence of the boatman however, we weren't able to avail the boat package.
We spent the weekend unwinding to a spectacular view with drinks, food and taking a dip in the pool. A definite must-try if you're looking for a quick and chill getaway from the city!

Taal Volcano - Crater Lake - Talisay, Philippines - The Trek In
This is the boat ride in and the trek up Taal volcano. The trip across Taal lake is in a double outrigger canoe called Interceptor 1. Cool name!
It was a great day for a hike. Warm but with a nice breeze and low humidity. Close to the top the lava flows push the hot gasses to the surface. At this point I notice that my guide is covering his mouth and nose and breathing through a rag. I was thinking, umm... where's my rag? Should I be breathing in this stuff?
It gets steeper the closer to the top you get. There is a final flight of stairs to the overlook. I'm in good shape and it wasn't easy. A nice little work out. If it was much longer I would have need to stop for a break though.
I noticed the Koreans were all on horseback. Hahaha. I asked my guide about this and he said the Koreans won't walk up. Even the men. I said they need to man up and he said haha yeah.
Taal Volcano - Crater Lake - Talisay, Philippines
My guide describes some history of eruptions of the volcano. No eruptions today though!
He said the local government shut down all access to the volcano for about 3 months due to the danger from gas emissions.
Taal Volcano, Island of Luzon, in the province of Batangas, Philippines
Taal Volcano is a complex volcano located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Historical eruptions are concentrated on Volcano Island, an island near the middle of Lake Taal. The lake partially fills Taal Caldera, which was formed by powerful prehistoric eruptions between 140,000 to 5,380 BP. Viewed from Tagaytay Ridge, Taal Volcano and Lake presents one of the most picturesque and attractive views in the Philippines. It is located about 50 km ( 31 miles ) south of the capital of the country, the city of Manila.
The volcano had several violent eruptions in the past causing loss of life in the island and the populated areas surrounding the lake, with the death toll estimated at around 5,000 to 6,000. Because of its proximity to populated areas and its eruptive history, the volcano was designated a Decade Volcano, worthy of close study to prevent future natural disasters. It is one of the active volcanoes in the Philippines and part of the Pacific ring of fire.
Taal Volcano and Lake are wholly located in the province of Batangas. The northern half of Volcano Island falls under the jurisdiction of the lake shore town of Talisay, and the southern half to San Nicolas. The other towns that encircle Taal Lake include Tanauan, Talisay, Laurel, Agoncillo, Santa Teresita, Alitagtag, Cuenca, Lipa, Balete and Mataas na Kahoy.
Permanent settlement in the island is prohibited by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or PHIVOLCS, declaring the whole Volcano Island as a high-risk area and a Permanent Danger Zone
( PDZ ). Despite the warnings, poor families have settled on the island, risking their lives, earning a living by fishing and farming crops from the rich volcanic soil.
Although the volcano has been quiet since 1977, it has shown signs of unrest since 1991, with strong seismic activity and ground fracturing events, as well as the formation of small mud pots and mud geysers on parts of the island. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology ( PHIVOLCS ) regularly issues notices and warnings about current activity at Taal, including ongoing seismic unrest.
There have been 33 recorded eruptions at Taal since 1572. The first eruption of which there is any record occurred in 1572, the year the Agustinian friars founded the town of Taal on the shores of the lake ( on what is now San Nicolas, Batangas ). In 1591, another mild eruption took place featured by great masses of smoke issuing forth from the crater. From 1605 to 1611, the volcano displayed such great activity that Father Torna de Abreu had a huge cross of anubing wood erected on the brink of the crater.
The dormant Binintiang Malaki ( Big Leg ) Crater is the centre of the 1707 & 1715 eruption.
