An explosion of colours in TABLE CAPE TULIP farm | Wynyard, Tasmania
Every year during September and October, tulip season in Tasmania is one of the most spectacular draws to the Cradle Coast. We drop by to the farm and experience an explosion of colours on these tulip flowers, a pride here in Wynyard, Tasmania.
A tulip farm atop a 12 million-year-old volcano, Table Cape Tulip Farm features acres of patchwork fields that fly into a rage of colour each spring.
Unsurprisingly, people come from all over the world to see this spectacle, and delight in wandering through the farm. In fact, these are the largest tulip fields in the Southern Hemisphere that you can actually walk in. Join us as we delve into the explosion of colours through these fantastic flowers.

130 years of the Wynyard Show
Wynyard Tasmania Australia is a centre of agriculture on the North West coast of Tasmania. It sits on the banks of the Inglis River sheltered by Table Cape, flat-topped and fertile.
The Wynyard Agricultural and Pastoral Society hold the Wynyard Agricultural Show or Carnival in March each year. The Show is one of Tasmania's oldest local shows and still retains its classic country feel.
Come and see the animals, watch the horses, or marvel at the giant pumpkins entered in the pumpkin growing competition.
Axemen compete in the woodchopping arena and sideshow alley and show-bags are still favourites for the kids and bigger kids.
hundreds of farmers who converged at the Wynyard showgrounds for some friendly competition and good conversation.
the Wynyard show served as a breeding ground for new farming ideas, networking opportunities and education.
“Showing the animals is just a small part of it because it’s also a good chance to meet with other farmers and hear what they’re doing, and what their experiences have been,” Mr Perkins said.
Preparations for the Wynyard show could start as far ahead as 12 months prior to the event.
Hundreds of attendees enjoyed fun food, fashion shows and displays of birds, sheep and rabbits at the show on Saturday.
The Wynyard Historic Society shared stories of the show’s long past and consistent popularity.

Spirit of Tasmania to the Mainland! - Ep.35
First week in Tassie!! ????????????????
After a relatively painless process with boarding the Spirit of Tasmania, we arrived in Tassie after a day sail, at around 6:30pm. We headed straight to a donation camp in Forthe (about 15 minutes from the disembarking port). Got ourselves a nice grassy spot and headed straight over to the pub for dinner ????.
It was so good to be on tassie soil and all 3 of us safe and sound. Amz was so worried about Rusty ???? in the onboard kennel, during the crossing. But it was so good to see Rusty all excited when we collected her. After a massive day, we all feel asleep quite early that night. ????
The next day, we went to woolies to do a big food shop, then headed to our next camp. Lake Gairdner - a free camp approximately half an hour north of Cradle Mountain. Well what a magical???? places this is! We spent 3 nights here and used it as a base to explore the surrounds. We visited Cradle Mountain in one day while Rusty napped in our van. Boy were we underprepared for the cold temps❄️ here! We had two jumpers on each and still freezing our butts off. Opting not to do any of the major walks and just having a look at each spot the shuttle bus stopped. We did however get an iconic photo at Dove Lake, saw 3 wombats and an echidna on our adventure! ????
The following day, we visited two small waterfalls nearby and trekked out to Leven Canyon. While we we were camped at Lake Gairdner we saw our first wild platypus! It was right on dusk and he came up the river in search of food. We also saw lots of small wallabies in the surrounds after dusk. Next day, is was time to move on and head back up towards the coast. We had a drive through Penguin ???? and set up at a free camp west of the township.
A severe rain cell was predicted ☔️ for the next day and said to last 3 days, so we thought it would be the perfect time to head to the popular Boat Harbour Beach - free camp and nab a spot. It's a very popular free camp with limited spots. We figured everyone would be heading away because of the storm and that meant we could get a good spot! Well our plan worked ????????♂️. We got up at 7am and headed straight to boat harbour in the pouring rain. When we got there, we had our pick of over half the camp spots! We chose a spot nestled in the corner, so we could run our generator with out bother to fellow campers. ????
We set up during the small breaks in the rain, and bunkered down in midget mode (our van not popped up). It rained ???? for the rest of the day and the following the day. On our third day, it looked as tho the rain had cleared for a bit, so with a major case of cabin fever - we shot out to Stanley, for a look. We climbed 'the nut' and did the circuit walk ????????♀️ on top. Although the blue skies were out, it was a quite windy (see Kurt loose his hat!). After our hike we had a light lunch in town, then checked out some of the surrounding lookouts, before heading back to camp.
Next day we went and checked out the Rocky Cape, & Sisters beach, before meeting up with some Instagram friends Chris,Vee and Tilly’s for lunch????in Wynyard. It was great to finally meet these guys in person and talk about life on the road (they're also traveling Australia). We stopped into the Table Cape lookout & lighthouse for a squizz on our way back to camp.
Our thoughts of Tassie after a week - absolutely epic and can't wait to see more!

Spring 2011 at the Table Cape Tulip Farm
These are some photos taken this year (2011). I (Dave) took many and Paul snapped some of of the great soft focus shots. This was in between the madness of the flowering and and tourism season. We hope you enjoy.
Why Tasmania Should Be on Your Highest List of Australia Tourism Agenda
Come to Tasmania to indulge in history, vast wilderness areas, Australia's most spectacular mountains, dazzling beaches and the freshest food and wine imaginable.
Home to just 500,000 people, the island of Tasmania is as intimate as it is beautiful. Its gorgeous capital city, Hobart, is home to one of the world's most intriguing art galleries, while northern Launceston is one of the few cities on the planet to be wrapped around a gorge. Drive anywhere in the island state and you can go from beach-lined coasts to World Heritage-listed mountain areas in just a few hours. Along the way you'll pass welcoming farm-gate producers, cellar doors and restaurants specialising in local produce so fresh it's the envy of the culinary world.
HOW TO GET THERE
Tasmania's two major cities, Hobart and Launceston, have direct flights from the cities of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Locals and tourists also use the car ferry, Spirit of Tasmania, which crosses between mainland Australia (from Melbourne) to the Tasmanian city of Devonport (near Launceston) daily.
Explore Hobart's Capital Treats
Tasmania's welcoming capital city, Hobart, is pressed between a mountain and a river, and provides a diverse range of city activities and experiences. Wander among the city's beautiful sandstone colonial architecture, drive to the summit of Mount Wellington for the best of Hobart's views, and dine on Tasmania's famously fresh produce in any number of outstanding restaurants.
Visit the Underground Art World of Mona
Hobart's amazing, subterranean Museum of Old and New Art, or MONA, is a heady combination of art and architecture. A multi-tiered labyrinth cut into sandstone cliffs in the city's northern suburbs, this world-class gallery has a collection of art designed to provoke.
Delve into Convict History
World Heritage-listed penitentiary buildings around Tasmania tell the story of almost 50 years of harsh convict life in the 19th century. Australia's most notorious convict settlement sits in the beautiful coastal setting of Port Arthur, a one hour drive east of Hobart. If you're feeling brave, stick around for the nightly ghost tour.
Rock the Cradle
The most famous of Tasmania's multitude of mountains is Cradle Mountain, a dramatic cliff-lined peak rising from the shores of Dove Lake in the state's north-west. View it from the six kilometre (3.7 mile) Dove Lake Circuit walking track or, if you're feeling energetic, climb to Marions Lookout for a stunning view over mountain and lake.
Wander the Sands of Wineglass Bay
A short walk from the car park at Freycinet National Park brings you to a lookout platform above the flawless white curve of Wineglass Bay on the eastern Freycinet Peninsula (three hours drive north-east of Hobart). From here, walk down to the beach and feel the sand between your toes. You'll probably meet a kangaroo or two on the beach, and may see dolphins playing in the water.
Be Seduced by Seafood
Seafood can come no fresher than this, as you take a boat from Hobart's docks for a banquet pulled straight from the ocean on a Tasmanian Seafood Seduction trip run by Pennicott Wilderness Journeys. On this day-long tour towards the coast of southern Bruny Island, you'll harvest oysters straight from a farm's leases, and feast on crayfish and abalone caught by your guide. The catch is barbecued right on the boat.
Meet a Devil
Wildlife parks across Tasmania offer opportunities to see the state's emblematic Tasmanian devil. Take a night tour at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, 30 minutes drive north of Hobart, and you'll get to feed the devils in a tug-of-war game; or join a Devil Tracker Tour at the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo on the Tasman Peninsula (about a one-hour drive south-east of Hobart) to help monitor wild populations.
Go Nuts about Stanley
One look at cute Stanley, on Tasmania's north-west coast, is usually enough to inspire love at first sight. This colourful and welcoming fishing town huddles at the base of a curious rectangular hill named the Nut. It's the plug of a former volcano. Little penguins waddle ashore each night across long Godfreys Beach.
Get Bloomin' excited about tulips
Once a year, Tasmania's Table Cape becomes awash with colour for the Bloomin' Tulips Festival. The festival runs as part of a three-week event calendar (other notable highlights include the Bloomin' Tulips Cocktail Party and the Mayoral Ball). If you miss the festival, there is also the Bloomin' Tulips Foreshore Market, held on the first and third Sunday of each month along the East Wynyard foreshore.
Tassie Benches Project - Tasman Arch Lookout
I give to you, in these chaotic times, the simple pleasure of sitting on a bench.
View the interactive map here:
A project to map and document the sights and sounds from the various lovely benches around Tasmania. Each video plays for 15 minutes in real time and has stereo audio to properly impart a sense of place. The goal is to create a meditative experience while also documenting the time and place as it existed within the moment. I recommend listening with headphones.
Captured with a GoPro Hero6 Black and Zoom H1.

Wentworth Hills, Tasmania
THIS IS AN OFF TRACK WALK. NAVIGIATION EXPERIENCE IS RECOMMENDED.
The Wentworth Hills are a place that no one seems to know about. Peaks around the nearby Lake St Clair get all the attention, while Wentworth Hills gets nothing more than a cursory glance. However, the views from the summit were exquisite! And there was some extremely nice scenery along the way such as Lake Knight. The walk begins from the southern side of Laughing Jack Lagoon, and the roads are fine for a 2WD and currently open (as of October 2019).

The Lighthouse at Lengkuas Island
A magnificent view from top of the Lighthouse at Lengkuas Island. Lengkuas island is a small island located near Belitung island, Indonesia. The island can be reached by a fisherman boat. The lighthouse itself was built in 1882 by the Dutch government.
