Kokubunji to Tachikawa via Chuo Line (100108-1133)
Taking the Chuo Line from Kokubunji to Tachikawa, watching the scenery (on the right side of the train) flow by. There are views of houses, large apartment buildings, and new track construction.
They've been working on improving the rails between Mitaka and Tachikawa for several years now, and all the new construction is beginning to improve things. Tachikawa Station (立川駅 Tachikawa-eki) is a railway station in Tachikawa, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). Tachikawa is a city of about 180,000 inhabitants on the western outskirts of Tokyo. The city serves as a major traffic hub, shopping center and industrial zone.
The south side has a lot of bars, snacks, arcades and bars to enjoy, if that's your thing. We walk in this area because I wanted to find a board game cafe, and point out my favorite ramen place; Ramen Square.

Crest Hotel - Tachikawa, Japan - Tiny Rooms, Great Review!
I'm not really a huge fan of Japanese hotels. Tiny hotel rooms don't really do the trick for me. Luckily, the Crest Hotel was built with the (larger) international traveler in mind. Compared to a Holiday Inn or Marriot, you'll still feel like you're living in a dollhouse.
I like the Crest because the service is great and the rooms are always clean. But as a tall American, everything feels a bit cramped, like it was built on a mini-me scale. The bed is peewee, and the bathtub is definitely on the petite side.
Walking into the Crest Hotel lobby, the huge chandelier jumps out at you. It's absolutely enormous! The hotel staff is pleasant and they know the area pretty well, so they can recommend places to go. Breakfast at the hotel is pretty bare bones. There are assorted rolls with jam and butter and a couple of types of cereal. To drink, you have apple and orange juice or tea and coffee. Although it's pretty basic, there's no limit on how much you can eat. So don't be afraid to fill up on cereal and rolls!
In the last section of my video, you can see Tachikawa from my 9th floor room. There was construction going on right below, and the train tracks passed close by. The landscape was mostly filled with a mix of residential and office towers. Besides that, you can see some telephone equipment from NTT (Nippon Telephone and Telegraph).
The Crest Hotel is a great place to stay if you're visiting the Tachikawa area. There are lots of delicious restaurants just a stone's throw away from the hotel. American favorites like McDonald's, Starbucks, KFC, and Mister Donut stand next door to noodle shops, Thai food, and traditional Japanese fare. Nightclubs, karaoke bars, and even an Irish Pub can be found close by!
The Crest Hotel is also near a mall, which is attached to the Tachikawa train station. The mall has everything from clothing stores, makeup, and groceries. The train system is pretty confusing, but I figured it out once and rode into Central Tokyo. I think it took about half an hour, and I had to switch trains once. Lots of younger people know how to speak English, and they will be happy to help you if you ask. If you're visiting Tachikawa, make sure to consider the Crest Hotel!
