US44 NY55 Highland to Modena New York
Take a ride through ulster county from highland to modena.
U.S. Route 44 (US 44) in the state of New York is a major east--west thoroughfare in the Hudson Valley region of the state. Its entire 65.98-mile (106.18 km) length is maintained by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), with the exception of the Mid-Hudson Bridge, which is maintained by the New York State Bridge Authority. The portion of the route in New York begins at an intersection with US 209 and New York State Route 55 (NY 55) near the hamlet of Kerhonkson and ends at the Connecticut state line near the village of Millerton. The road passes through rural parts of Ulster and Dutchess counties before crossing into Litchfield County, Connecticut.
New York State Route 55 (NY 55) is a state highway in southern New York, running from the Pennsylvania state line at the Delaware River in Barryville to the Connecticut state line at Wingdale. It is the only other state highway beside NY 7 to completely cross the state, from border to border, in an east--west direction, although NY 17 does so and is partially east--west. It also forms a concurrency when it joins US 44 for 33 miles.
Sprain Brook Parkway (NY 100B to Taconic State Parkway) Northbound
The Sprain Brook Parkway (also known as The Sprain) is a 12.65-mile (20.36 km) long north–south parkway in Westchester County, New York, United States. It begins at an interchange with the Bronx River Parkway in the city of Yonkers, and ends at the former site of the Hawthorne Circle, where it merges into the Taconic State Parkway. The parkway serves an alternate to the Bronx River Parkway, boasting an interchange connection through western Westchester with Interstate 287. New York's Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) refers to it internally as New York State Route 987F (NY 987F), an unsigned reference route.
Construction of the alternative highway began in 1958, with the stretch from the Bronx River Parkway to Tuckahoe Road. This section was completed in 1961. The next piece, from Tuckahoe Road to Jackson Avenue, was constructed during 1962 and 1963, with it opening in the latter. Construction continued to the Cross Westchester Expressway (I-287) and was completed in 1969. At this point, the last missing piece was between the Cross Westchester and the Hawthorne Circle. This piece was delayed until 1976, when construction began on the last 2.7 miles (4.3 km) of parkway. The last piece of the parkway was opened on October 28, 1980 at the cost of $25 million (1980 USD).
From its opening in 1961 until 1979, the parkway was maintained by the East Hudson Parkway Authority, a commission created to maintain tolls on the Saw Mill River Parkway, the Bronx River Parkway and to provide general maintenance for the Taconic State Parkway. The authority was abolished in 1979, at which time, all maintenance of the Sprain Brook Parkway was turned over to NYSDOT.

Topsmead State Forest is a Connecticut state forest located in the town of Litchfield. It was formally the summer residence of Edith Morton Chase, daughter of Henry Sabin Chase, first president of the Chase Brass and Copper Company. She left the house and its grounds to the state of Connecticut on her death in 1972. The estate house, built in 1929 to a design by RIchard Henry Dana, is a fine example of a Tudor Revival country estate house, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Topsmead State Forest consists of more than 600 acres (240 ha) of land in eastern Litchfield. It is bounded on the east by Buell Road, the west by [[Connecticut Route 254, and is crossed in its northern sections by East Litchfield Road and Connecticut Route 118. Most of the forest area consists of a hill rising to an elevation of 1,230 feet (370 m). The main park entrance is on Chase Road, off Buell Road. From the parking area on Chase Road, trails branch out through the forest holdings, a combination of open and wooded areas.
Near the center of the forest, and near the top of the hill, stands the former estate house of Edith Morton Chase. It is a large two story structure, with stucco half-timbered walls in the Tudor Revival style. A central section is flanked by cross-gabled wings, with large westward projection that houses a great living room with a tall ceiling. The interior is decorated in 1920s style, and retains original fixtures and finishes. The area around the house is informally landscaped, continued the practice of Edith Morton Chase, for whom it was built.

48 Hours In Dutchess County, New York State Road Trip, USA
Dutchess County, New York.,
Our USA vacation and we are exploring New York State.
For the first time, we headed out of New York City and followed the Hudson River up to Dutchess County, New York.
We drove from JFK to Dutchess county which was a simple one and half to two hour drive north. Although it was cloudy it stayed dry and we missed the intense heat which affected the US open tennis a few days before our visit.
Our first stop was at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome which was holding their weekly airshow before we headed off to try some bourbon.
Dutchess County has some good wine and we did visit a couple of the vineyards - Millbrook vineyard and Clinton vineyard. As well as good wine the food was pretty good too.
There is a lot of US history around the Hudson Valley and in Dutchess County, it was the home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. We visited Staatsburgh State Historic Site and the Mills mansion, which was the Gilded Age country home of Ogden Mills and Ruth Livingston Mills.
We stayed in the Red Hook Country Inn and the historic Old Rhinebeck Inn which are both very different to the bland corporate style hotels.
We spent 48 hours in Dutchess County and only had a brief taste of what there is to do in the county but there is far more to see and do. It is definitely worth a trip out of New York, just follow that river north.
What we did in Dutchess County.
0:25 The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, airshow.
1:55 Bourbon tasting at Taconic Distillery.
2:45 The Red Hook Country Inn, where we stayed Day One.
3:10 Red Hook, Sunday morning.
3:55 Mills Mansion, Staatsburgh State Historic Site.
5:57 Millbrook Vineyards & Winery, Millbrook, NY.
7:08 Clinton Vineyards, Clinton Corners, NY.
7:39 Old Rhinebeck Inn, where we stayed Day Two.
8:21 Sprout Creek Farm, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Four Freedoms Forum: Aging in America - Attitudes and Access
The dramatic increase in life expectancy in the United States and all other developed nations is one of the greatest cultural and scientific advances in our history. Massachusetts - New York - Vermont State Tripoint Panoramic View
MA-NY-VT monument is located inside Hopkins Memorial Forest. The Taconic Crest Trail from Petersburg Pass on NY-2 was used to get up the NY/VT state line. A logging road from here takes an indirect route on gentle grade, still steep descent, to the area around the monument. The monument is a bit uphill from the road with a stream just a bit south. It was a bushwhack back up to the Taconic Crest Trail along the NY/VT state line from the monument. It was slow going on the bushwhack up with thick layers of leaves on top of steep slippery soil, often requiring use of arms to steady, pull, or push myself. Yellow, sometimes mixed with red, marks on trees that follows a east-west course along the NY/VT state line ease the navigation on the bushwhack back to the Taconic Crest Trail. Following these marks just a bit west of the Taconic Crest Trail is the obelisk marking the southwest corner of Vermont. These marks may set the boundaries for Williams College or logging activities. Similar yellow markings near the Birch Brook Trail that runs closer to the NY/MA state line may offer another bushwhack route that is less steep. The Birch Brook Trail and Shepherds Well Trail junctions along the Taconic Crest Trail is clear marked, however, there are no blazes of signs or a trail beyond the junction.
Video starts looking at the tripoint monument from the NY/VT state line. As video pans clockwise, the nearby logging road below could be seen. The background noise of running water is from a stream just south of the location. Further panning shows the steep terrain leading up to the Taconic Crest Trail before coming back to the monument.
