Royal Automobile Club Charity Cup
Woodcote Park, 28 April 2015: High profile names from the automotive and motorsport industries turned out on Tuesday at the Royal Automobile Club’s Woodcote Park for the fourth annual Charity Cup golf competition, supported once again by Sky Sports and raising money for the Henry Surtees Foundation and BEN charities.
With the sun out, the match was a hotly-contested affair which saw motor industry property company Automotive Assets scoop top honours with 90 points to claim the Charity Cup. The Sky Sports team came second with 89 points, while the Nicky Grist Motorsport team finished third on 85 points. Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin and Straightest Drive prizes were kindly donated by Sky Sports, while thirteen players all ‘Beat the Pro’ and won a bottle of champagne, but importantly raised more money for charity. David Manchester, captain of the winning team and also a Royal Automobile Club member reflected, ‘Today has been a great day, well-organised and highly enjoyable. We are thrilled to have won.’
Many well-known personalities supported the day including Damon Hill and Simon Lazenby from the Sky Sports F1 team and British Touring Car Championship presenters, Steve Rider and Tim Harvey. Among the plethora of race drivers who turned out was Manor Marussia Formula 1 driver Will Stevens, playing in the MSA Academy team, who commented ‘The course is in really good condition and it’s great to get everybody together for two great causes’.
Nigel Rothband, Chief Operating Officer of the charity BEN, expressed thanks of behalf of the two charities and added. ‘We’re incredibly grateful to the Royal Automobile Club for hosting this event and our partnership with the Club is an important part of our business and will help us to deliver support for those that are in need’.
Ben Cussons, Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club’s Motoring Committee commented, ‘Our fourth Charity Cup was a wonderful success and I thank all the teams and captain’s for their participation. We are especially indebted to Sky Sports once again for their invaluable support on the day’.
