Historical Monuments of Ahom dynasty found at Mohuramukh in Hahchara
The largest remnant of the Tai-Ahom Kingdom | Kareng Ghar and Talatar Ghar
Tourists visit the Kareng Ghar or Talatal Ghar in Assam's Sibsagar district. This the largest monument of the Tai-Ahom Kingdom in Assam.
History has it that Rangpur, one of the former capitals of the Ahom Kingdom, was founded by the Ahom ruler of the 17th century Swargeo Rudra Singha. He then constructed a palace in the city, from wood and such other locally available materials. Later, his successor Rajeswara Singha added some more stories to the palace, making it a seven-storied edifice. The upper four stories are known as Kareng Ghar, while the three underground floors are collectively called Talatal Ghar. Even today, the seven storied palace stands proud and tall in the Sibsagar district of Assam.
The palace was initially built for the purpose of serving as a military base for the Ahom kings. Apart from Kareng Ghar and Talatal Ghar, it has two underground tunnels as well; connecting Talatal Ghar and the Gargaon Palace with the Dikhow River. It was used as an emergency exit during wars. This section was later blocked by the East India Company. The entire palace, with its various rooms, is interconnected by tiny passages. Built within the palace are an octagonal-shaped temple, three large chambers, a guard room and a hall with a huge courtyard having separate entrances.- Bharatonline(dot)com

Talatal Ghar, Sivasagar
The Talatal Ghar or the Rangpur Palace is situated in the northern region of Assam and is one of the most impressive of Tai Ahom architecture. Not only does it stand as a worthy testament to the vibrant Assamese culture and its rich history, but it is also the largest of all Ahom monuments in the entire world. History buffs and architecture lovers should add Talatal Ghar to their go-to list.
Boasting of a typical Mughal architecture style, the upper ground floor of the Talatal Ghar is popularly known as Kareng Ghar and was used by as a live-in palace by the royalty of Assam. Raja Swargdeo Rudra Singha, the successor of Swargadeo Rajeswar Singha, added these top floors during his regime making the Talatal Ghar an elegant and truly spectacular seven-story royal palace.
An interesting fact about this stunning monument is it has been built with purely organic materials - bricks and organic cement (a mixture of rice powder and duck eggs).
Rang Ghar, Sivsagar
Often referred to as the 'Colosseum of the East', Rang Ghar is one of the oldest surviving amphitheaters of Asia. It is located near Rangpur Palace at a distance of 3 km from Sibsagar town. The name translates to 'House of Entertainment' and dates back to 1746 A.D. when the Ahoms used to rule present-day Assam. This monument is an important edifice reflecting the architectural precision and grandeur of that time.
Originally, the two-storied building was built by Ahom ruler Swargadeo Pramatta Singha to be used by Ahom kings and nobles for witnessing sports like buffalo fights and other sports held at the adjoining Rupahi Pathar. It served as a royal sports pavilion particularly during the Rangauli Bihu festival of Rangpur.
Owing to such rich historical importance, Rang Ghar was used as a logo for the 33rd National Games held in Assam in 2007. Presently, the condition of this monument is fragile. Frequent earthquakes and seismic surveys have caused at least 35 noticeable cracks on the walls.
Ahom Museum, Sivasagar
It is on the banks of Sibsagar Lake and displays artefacts such as royal armoury, clothes, manuscripts, etc which belonged to the rulers of the Ahom dynasty.
Charaideo, Sivasagar
Located 28 km away from Sibsagar, this was the capital of Ahom dynasty. This was built by Sukhapa, the founder of the Ahom dynasty. The main attraction of Charaideo is its burial vaults (or maidans) of the king and members of the Ahom dynasty.
Shivadol, Sivasagar
This famous Shiva Temple is located on the shores of the Sibsagar Lake and was constructed in 1734. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Shivadol was built by Bar Raja Ambika, queen of Ahom King Swargadeo Siba Singha.
It is the tallest Shiva temple in India with a height of about 32 m and base perimeter of 59 m.
