Hey, Thanks for watching!!!
In this episode, we finish packing in Canada and head for the Toronto airport to start our big adventure in Taiwan. We check out the market near our first Air bnb in the ZhongShan area, eat food, and attempt to walk to the Taipei 101 tower to avoid the insane jet lag that we had.

Short trip to YULI in Hualien County (花蓮玉里短暫之旅)
After having fun at Ruisui (see previous video) we went further south to visit a farm where you can learn how to make scones and wheat beer, had lunch at the Yuli Noodles restaurant, and then went bicycling on the Yufu Bikeway. We saw a LOT of rapeseed flower fields. :)

Yuli
From Ruisui it’s a short drive south on Provincial Highway 9 or County Road 193 to Yuli Township. The latter is favored by seasoned cyclists doing round-the-island or just East Rift Valley rides who prefer to take a more scenic and quieter road. It also offers more shade, thanks to the many roadside trees. In addition, the road has numerous vantage points from which you can take in the marvelous scenery of bright green and yellow fields and the majestic views of the central mountains on the opposite side of the valley.
Shortly before reaching the Yuli Bridge, which traverses the Xiuguluan River and connects to Highway 9 and central Yuli, you come to the Dongfeng Leisure Agricultural Area, a multipurpose farm where visitors can try their hand at such fun as making scones and brewing wheat beer using ingredients grown on the farm’s fields. Creating the small-sized scones, made with eggs, butter, and flour from the area, takes about an hour under the staff’s expert tutelage, and making the beer, a crisp, pleasing wheat ale, takes around three.
The farm was started as a rice operation 20 years ago, with pomelos also grown, but today the focus is mostly on wheat, four varieties of rice, two different kinds of beans, and a small fertilizer factory catering to local farmers looking to further enrich the already fertile soil. The factory and the fields can be toured; the wheat fields are a rare sight in subtropical Taiwan.
The East Rift Valley is well known for its fantastic cycling paths, one of the most popular being the Yufu Bikeway. Close to Yuli Railway Station are a number of bike-rental operations which rent bicycles for NT$100/4hrs, and e-bikes for NT$300 for the same amount of time. The roughly 10-kilometer stretch of paved pathway runs from Yuli Railway Station to the old railway station at the village of Dongli, following an abandoned railway line, winding among rice paddies, fields, and irrigation ponds.
About two kilometers into the ride the bikeway crosses the Xiuguluan River and the fault line dividing the Eurasian and Philippine Sea plates, traversing a railway bridge that had to be retired because of the slowly shifting land below, the work of primal tectonic forces churning many kilometers underground. Stop at the midpoint of the bridge and place your feet at a clearly marked spot that allows you to, approximately, stand with one foot on the first tectonic plate and the other on the second.
Riding along the bikeway is a great way to take in the land that is eastern Taiwan’s largest rice granary, much of the crop grown here bound for export to Japan. During the seasons of the year the views are markedly different, ranging from seas of golden rice ears to fields of bright-yellow rapeseed.
Along the pathway you will pass the platforms of two old railway stations, at Antong and Dongli, the latter marking the southern end of the bikeway. Adjacent to Dongli’s old platform, a very popular Instagram spot, is a small café where you can stop and relax, have a cup of coffee, and perhaps pick up a small locally-made souvenir before heading back to Yuli.
If you have worked up an appetite on your return to central Yuli, consider dining at the Yuli Noodles restaurant, a popular no-frills eatery serving generous portions of noodles, either dry or in soup, topped with slices of pork, celery, and bean sprouts.

Taipei YouBike RIDE w/ OLD TEMPLES, KEELUNG RIVER, SONGSHAN
Went on a little bike ride from MRT Yuanshan Station to Songshan Railway Station, on the way visiting Confucius Temple, Bao'an Temple, Taipei Expo Park, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taipei Story House, Xinsheng Park Area, Lin An-tai Historical House and Museum, Dajia Riverside Park, Keelung River, Rainbow Bridge, Songshan Ciyou Temple, and Raohe Street Night Market.

(Text: Nick Kembel)
Yuanshan Park Area
East of MRT Yuanshan Station lies the Taipei Expo Park, which served as venue for the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition. Many of the flower gardens and buildings created for the expo remain, and can still be enjoyed.
There you can also visit Maji Square, which in recent times has become one of Taipei’s hippest hangouts. The airy covered square includes an upscale grocery, a bagel shop, an “international food street”, featuring French, Mexican, Indian, Korean, Japanese, Thai and, of course, Taiwanese snack foods, a merry-go-round, the Triangle nightclub, a craft beer shop, a creative market, and restaurant-pubs.
Fine Arts Park Area
Continuing beyond Maji Square, you’ll pass the Pavilion of New Fashion, an imposing structure constructed of bamboo and PET bottles. Crossing Zhongshan North Road will then take you into the Fine Arts Park Area. Head left to visit the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, one of the city’s best museums. Beside its entrance area you’ll also find the Taipei Story House, a restored British Tudor-style mansion in which various exhibits are staged.
To complete your tour of Taipei Expo Park, cycle through the fairytale-like Floral Tunnel and over the eco-friendly Solar Bridge, then cross Xinsheng North Road to reach the third section, the Xinsheng Park Area. Here you’ll encounter wide-open spaces, more flower displays, a botanical garden, and the Pavilion of Dreams, home to a café that is a fine spot to stop for a drink.
Lin An Tai Historical House & Museum
North of the Pavilion of Dreams, cross Binjiang Street to reach the Lin An Tai Historical House & Museum, a gorgeously restored traditional south Fujian courtyard-style residence. If the complex seems oddly situated, that’s because decades ago it was saved from destruction in its original location on Siwei Road, and rebuilt here.
Dajia Riverside Park
Next, follow Lane 5 beside the complex to reach the Lin An Tai Evacuation Gate (No. 10 Water Gate), through which you can access Dajia Riverside Park. This lovely green expanse on the southern bank of the Keelung River between Zhongshan and Dazhi bridges is renowned as the venue for the annual Spring Wave Music and Art Festival and Taipei’s Dragon Boat Festival races. If lucky, you’ll get to see dragon-boat paddlers practicing near Dazhi Bridge.
This park also features a 75-meter-high water fountain which, when running, is a sight to behold, with the iconic Grand Hotel in the background across the river.
Rainbow Bridge
The path is flat for most of this journey, so you’ll barely break into a sweat before reaching the Rainbow Bridge. Pedestrian-only Rainbow Bridge is not in fact rainbow-colored; it is red, featuring a steel arch that is likened to the shape of a dragon leaping the river. This is a pretty spot to watch the sunset, and couples might have trouble resisting the temptation to take a romantic selfie beside the large steel sculpture of the word “LOVE” by the riverside path, with the illuminated bridge in the background.
Songshan Ciyou Temple
Before entering the 600-meter-long street in which the market is set up in the evening, you’ll want to first pop into Songshan Ciyou Temple, Taipei’s most renowned temple devoted to Mazu, Goddess of the Sea. The premises feature over a hundred deity statues, spread over six floors, with the ones at the top being the most impressive. The temple was recently restored, with a colorful new frieze added to the sides and back of the main Mazu shrine on the first floor.
Raohe Street Tourist Night Market
This night market is one of Taipei’s most famous, and many visitors say that it feels more authentic and less touristy than some of the bigger ones. The market’s most famous stall, evidenced by the long lineup even before the rest of the market really gets going, is Fuzhou Shizu Black Pepper Buns, right at the east-end entrance near the temple. At the center, another popular choice is Chen Dong Ribs Stewed in Medicinal Herbs.

Taiwanese Beef Noodles at Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵) - BEST Taiwan Beef Noodles in Taipei!
Lin Dong Fang serves some of the best Taiwanese beef noodles in Taipei►
One of the most popular dishes to eat in Taiwan in Taiwanese beef noodle soup - I think it’s something nearly everyone gets excited about eating. When I was in Taipei, I was really doing some research and trying to decided which beef noodle soup restaurant to try out, and finally I settled on trying Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵), one of the old school and most respected names in the beef noodle crazy Taipei. So one day for lunch, Ying and I headed to the restaurant early before the lunch rush, ready to slurp down a bowl of noodles.
The simmering pans of beef were all sitting at the front of the restaurant, slowly braised and brewing in their own liquids ready to be dished out. The noodles were first blanched in water for a few minutes and then dished into a bowl, paired with the beef and tendon and then topped in slow brewed soup. The menu is not all that extensive, and nor does it need to be, because when you eat at Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵), you come there for the Taiwanese beef noodles. You can either order the large or the small sized bowl, I decided to go for the large bowl which was served in a metal bowl. Another choice you have is about meat and tendon, of which you can either choose one or the other, or you can get a combination of half and half, which is also what I did - that seems to be a pretty common thing to do.
The broth was made with beef, but also with an extremely pleasant combination of Chinese medicinal herbs and spices, so it had a very soothing flavor and aroma to it. The noodles were on the bottom, topped with both the slices of beef and the tendon, and then a handful of green onions were placed on top. It was so simple, but so well prepared and well assembled. The meat was unbelievably tender, fall apart tender, and it was full of flavor as well. Tendon is not my favorite cut, but even the tendon at Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵) was pretty good - it was nice and tender, and almost had a creaminess to it. Even though the beef noodle soup was good enough to eat on its own without any condiments, there’s no hurt in adding some condiments to any bowl of noodles - that’s another great reason to eat soup. On every table at the restaurant there was a cup full of some red chili paste that looked like peanut butter. After adding some to the soup, the broth took on a lovely dry chili flavor, which enhanced the broth even more. There was also a bottle of Chinese style vinegar chili sauce which tasted pretty good on the meat as well.
I’m not sure if Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵) is the best beef noodle restaurant in Taipei, because there are so many restaurant and so many choices, but I can say that their bowl of beef noodles fulfilled my expectations, and made me very happy about eating Taiwanese beef noodles. If you love beef and noodles, I don’t think there’s anyway you won’t love eating at Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵) restaurant when you’re in Taipei.
Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵), Taipei, Taiwan
Address: No. 274 Bade Road, Section 2, Zhongshan District, Taipei, Taiwan
Open hours: Monday - Saturday from 11:00am – 6:00 am
Prices: The big sized bowl of beef noodles is 240 TWD ($7.30) - not a bad price for everything included in the bowl, the normal bowl I believe is 170 TWD ($5.17)
How to get there: The restaurant is located on Bade road, about halfway in-between Nanjing Fuxing and Zhongxiao Fuxing Station. I think it would be about a 5 - 10 minute walk from either of these stations.

Best SuShi in Taiwan - Food Vlog!!!
We started our day late today as we were exhausted from our travel here yesterday. We wanted to go to the Addiction Aquatic Development 上引水產 to eat some sushi around 9 a.m as that is when all the fish and food are out. Nevertheless, we manage to pull ourselves up and arrive at Addiction Aquatic Development 上引水產 around noon time.
Addiction Aquatic Development is a massive area that sells fresh seafood and aquamarine products, a Japanese-style supermarket, many themed restaurants and food kiosks all in one place.
We first enter the marketplace by sanitizing our hands to keep the place inside cleaner. We were welcomed with a bunch of sea life the moment we enter. There were live crabs, fish and lobsters for people to come and purchase.
After passing the aquamarine area, we then move on to the Japanese-style supermarket area. It was lovely, there were so many fresh Japanese foods to take on the go and eat and much other Japanese stuff. You will have a choice to eat either at one of their theme restaurants or take away from the supermarket and eat at their eating area outside. We decided to eat at their sushi counter as that seems most popular there and we were glad we did as the food was just marvellous, we order a full sashimi & Sushi set, beef stick, grilled fish, and a glass of cold beer. It was the best Japanese food we have ever tasted so it was well worth the price tag of SGD100 for two people.
Next, we headed to the famous Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵) restaurant in Zhongshan District. The beef was very tender but I personally feel there was a little too much fat in it making it a little sickening to eat after a while. The noodle and the soup, on the other hand, were delicious, it was flavorful and adding the homemade paste inside gives it a kick. Overall the Lin Dong Fang beef noodle restaurant was worth visiting and I would still come back next time.
After that, we were like on a food coma so we decided to just walk the streets of Taipei. We then found a family mart and bought a large Yakult and some grape sweets. Across the road, we saw a mall that looks luxurious and since we were sweating, we when inside to chill ourselves and rest on the rooftop.
During the night, we went to Taipei 101. Initially, we wanted to visit the observation deck but when we arrive there, the sky was cloudy which mean it would be a nice view from above. Thus, we decided to just walk around and we found a nice place to eat, drink and chill for the night.

EP13 Seeing Taiwan: Shing Hwa Tea Shop, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, Thermal Valley, Lungshan Temple
When I take out the eating clips I can't believe I manage to fit 5 days of sightseeing into a 9 minute video!
Taipei is definitely more fast paced than Kaohsiung and Tainan in the south. Maybe it's because we were going to tourist places but most of the people we encountered were not from Taiwan and many of the people were not as friendly. The cost of things in Taipei is also slightly higher than the south and everywhere we went was much busier.
The highlight was definitely the 興華名茶 Shing Hwa Tea Shop. The owner took so much time to explain how their teas are grown and the difference between high elevation and low elevation teas.
He explained what is used to grow the tea to make it organic and the differences between a small tea garden and a commercial business tea garden. We learnt so much about how to brew tea and the difference slow grown plants make to the flavour, method and effect of the resulting tea. He made us several teas so we could try tea from different elevations and different plants e.g. oolong, tie guan yin and showed us the traditional tea ceremony. There was no pressure to make a purchase and he was so passionate about his product.
Here is a list of the places we visited:

Sub)????????

Hi????This is a Taiwan travel story. It's the fifth travel vlog.????
The last video was about the Taipei Film House SPOT, cafes and design shops on the Zhongshan Cafe Street. This video is about the National Taiwan Museum and the 2.28 Peace Park. The National Taiwan Museum is a Renaissance style building over 100 years old. The domed roof and long pillars were unique. And it was beautiful. The National Taiwan Museum was a place to learn more about Taiwan through ancient relics, history and natural history. When I got out of there, I took a walk at the 2.28 Peace Park. The park was beautiful, but it was a place to commemorate the sad history of Taiwan. There was a tower and a memorial to commemorate the 2.28. I have come to a different meaning to me because I know the historical facts. I knew a little bit about Taiwan's modern history, but I wanted to know more about it.
After walking the park, I went to the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and the 101 tower. So I plan to include them in the next video. Thanks for watching my vlog!???????? Have a good day-!???? I will show you about more Taipei travel, so please send me more subscriptions and interests.????
