(Putuoshan) A Visit to Potala Mountain China
It is an island located to the south-east of Shanghai, in Zhoushan prefecture of Zhejiang province, China. It is famous in Chinese Buddhism. (wikipedia)
The weather was cold about 6 deg Celcius with thick fog that envelopes the island. The place is quiet and far from noise, a place soothing and relaxing.
Went to a group tour and brought along my Canon g9 camera so all the videos were taken from Canon powershot g9. I should have brought my canon hv20 but since it was an impromptu trip, in a haste i forgot to bring.
The only thing i didnt like about the place is the people, they have this bad habbit of pushing people and they dont listen to rules and regulations.

I thought it would be important to document funeral culture in 2016 for a Tai Shan Cantonese in New York City. Tai Shan people made up 70% of the Chinese in America in the 1980s, but over the years the American Chinese population especially that of New York has been changing with more people from other parts of China immigrating to the United States. I believe that the changing background of New York City, the loss of traditions by subsequent generations and technological advancements will mean Chinese funeral processions will look radically different in a few generations.
Others may perform their funerals differently so by no means is this a blanket example. Our family is very diverse spiritually. My grandmother was not religious, her children all have different religious beliefs one is a catholic, another is a Buddhist and the last is a protestant christian. The family decided to go with a christian funeral, but still followed some of the Chinese traditions.
The main tradition I would like to convey is the actual funeral procession that happened the day after the wake. We used the Ng Fook funeral home at 36 Mulberry St in Chinatown New York and the car service that they contracted. The first car in the procession is the pickup truck containing all the flowers that were at the funeral and the holy person in this case my parents pastor. The next car carries the coffin. After that the family members follow in order of relatedness. The procession first passes the home of the deceased in the hopes that if their spirit lingers it will find the body and be laid to rest. I had volunteered to clear out the apartment, however my mother told me to wait till after the funeral due to this tradition. As this is Chinatown, traffic is a factor. As you will see in the video, especially towards the later parts, the drivers are very experienced at shepherding their convoy and controlling traffic. Drivers blare their horns to warn of the processions passing. Other Chinese regions would link this to warding off evil spirits from possessing the body of the deceased or calling the spirit back to the body, however I cannot say this apply to the beliefs of our family. The drivers also expertly blocked intersections as the procession passed to keep members from being separated. All of this is done without any communication between drivers. I hope this video is informative and can give future generations some insight into how things use to be.

2017 Jeme Tien Yow Memorial

ROAD LESS TRAVELED: HONG KONG CHI LIN NUNNERY AND NAN LIAN GARDEN | jiro and aina
This video maybe one of our most favorite! To start off with, road less traveled is a segment in our channel wherein we go to places that maybe popular to locals and some tourist but not all are aware. This is the purpose of making this road less traveled videos. To raise more awareness and invite everyone to visit these awesome locations.
For this road less traveled video we are going to bring you to Hong Kong's Nan Lian Garden and Chi lin Nunnery.
Hong Kong Nan Lian Garden - we've been to different gardens or park in Hong Kong but as of now Nan Lian Garden is on top of our list. Nan Lian Garden offers tranquility and Chinese heritage all in one place. Nan Lian Garden is not difficult to find. just use you google maps and Hong Kong's MTR and your there. Apart from Nan Lians beautiful landscape it is also an extra that they have a lot of Chinese homes inside this place. Hong Kong Nan Lian Garden can easily transport you to mainland China without acquiring a visa!
Hong Kong Chi Lin Nunnery - although there are a lot of temples in Hong Kong, Chi Lin Nunnery is quite unique. Most temples have the same interior but Chi Lin Nunnery houses about 3-5 Buddhas that are so remarkable! Unfortunately, you can't take pictures where the Buddhas are situated but other than that, selfie anywhere! Chi Lin Nunnery also gave that Chinese palace vibe that it felt like your inside a Chinese drama or movie. Silence is observed in Chi Lin Nunnery which makes your visit more personal and enjoyable because inside Chi Lin Nunnery Hong Kong, it's just you, your thoughts and the beauty right in front of you.
