The Taiwan Railways Administration to offer faster Taipei-Kaohsiung trips
Starting on April 21st, the Taiwan Railways Administration will offer deals that will put it in direct competition with the Taiwan High Speed Rail. The TRA’s Puyuma Express will take the Taipei–Kaohsiung route, which shortens the ride to three hours and 40 minutes. Although it’s still two hours longer than the High Speed Rail trip, the price of a trip at NT$843 is NT$642 cheaper. The Taiwan Railways Administration has purchased new Puyuma Express trains and they have taken test runs along Taiwan’s western line. On April 21st, they will officially begin operations in head-to-head competition with the High Speed Rail.CommuterBusiness travelers are more accustomed to taking the high speed rail, but when we travel, we save money wherever we can.CommuterIf I’m not in a hurry, I would choose Puyuma Express because high speed rail tickets are a little pricey. The Puyuma Express setting out from Songshan Station to Kaohsiung is over an hour faster than other regular trains. Although it’s close to two hours slower than the high speed rail , travelers will still be able to save NT$642.CommuterThe Puyuma Express is well-situated in the middle of the high speed rail and other trains in terms of price and time. Not content with threatening to poach customers from the high speed rail, the TRA will also solidify its customer base along Taiwan’s eastern routes with a “Hello Kitty” Taroko Express to be launched at the end of the month. Hello Kitty, will now be seen everywhere – on the outside of carriages, in the interior and on the seats, which is expected to boost ticket revenues.

Taipei Main Station can be extremely confusing to anyone including long time residents. I've tried to keep instructions on how to navigate the huge complex simple and if you follow the advice I give, mainly just using the signs above you for directions you shouldn't have too much difficulty getting around. I focused on the Taipei Main Station building where you'll find places to eat, shop, buy train tickets, the Airport MRT, the bus station located at the East Side of the main building, and the other MRT lines. If you are wanting to travel by bus to other parts of Taiwan including the Eastcoast, Central, and Southern Taiwan, then you'll need to go to Q Square where buses serve these regions of the island.

What is Train Travel like in Taiwan | High Speed Trains from Kaohsiung to Taichung
We are leaving Kaohsiung and jumping on the bullet high speed train towards our final spot here in Tawain - Taichung.
Honestly it is super easy to use the trains here in Taiwan - cheap and so simple to just jump on and off - highly recommend using them during your trip.
When we arrived in Taichung we found out that the birthplace of Bubble Tea is right next to our hotel - so we headed out to Chun Shui Tang (the original store) to try our favourite drink in Taiwan - Milk Bubble tea.
Before being able to check into our hotel we headed out to the beautiful Taichung park, where we rented some row boats...which we failed at!
Next up Jess had to take us to the busiest dumpling store we have ever been to...Din Tai Fung to try the famous Xiao Long Bao - soo good!!
We then ended our night checking into our hotel :)...one more Taiwan vlog :(

Eastern Taiwan residents welcome first exclusive Taipei-Hualien train for them
Train tickets between Taipei and eastern Taiwan are hard to come by, especially during holidays. So Taiwan Railways decided to add a train between Taipei and Hualien for the Dragon Boat Festival holiday designated exclusively for eastern Taiwan residents. The train to Hualien left earlier today without much of a hitch and the return leg back to Taipei will be on Sunday. The station chief checks passengers’ tickets and their IDs to make sure only Hualien or Taitung residents are boarding this special train. But some were able to get on without showing ID. Huang Jung-huaTaipei Train Station StationmasterSome passengers made it through the ticket gates to the train platforms with only seconds before the train left, so we could only check their tickets and remind them that this was a special train. The train only stopped at Taipei Main Station for 3 to 5 minutes, so not all passengers had their ID checked on the platform. The train’s conductor later checked everybody’s ticket against their ID on the way to Hualien. In Taipei, there was some confusion when a person who bought tickets for their family did not board the train, a no-no under the system.Huang Jung-huaTaipei Train Station StationmasterThe people with the ticket buyer’s tickets all had Hualien or Taitung IDs and they were all members of the ticket buyer’s family. Under a broad definition of the plan, that wasn’t a problem. It’s just something we’ll note for future consideration. There’s only one train exclusively for eastern Taiwan residents to and from Hualien over the Dragon Boat Festival, and to many residents, that’s not enough. The Transportation Ministry has said it could add more trains like this one during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday later this year.
Taiwan High Speed Rail bullet train Taipei to Kaohsiung
Taiwan's super efficient High Speed Rail is well worth using, reaching speeds of 280 kmph, and covering the 350 km distance between Taipei and the southern city of Kaohsiung in just 94 minutes.
A big welcome to those 2,000 new subscribers this last month, and of course a big thanks to the many thousands who have been watching this channel for a while. Cheers.
