STORYLINE:
Senior Japanese politicians joined members of the public at the Yakasuni shrine to the war dead in Tokyo on Thursday morning, the 68th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War Two.
The shrine has been a major obstacle in Japan's attempts to mend ties with countries it occupied during the war, especially China and South Korea, who say it pays tribute to war criminals.
Though Japan has issued several apologies for its wartime actions, the anniversary evokes bitter memories across Asia.
It is purely a national matter how Japan honours the war dead, said minister Keiji Furaya.
In 2010, when the opposition Democratic Party was in power, the entire cabinet avoided visiting the shrine on August 15th in an attempt to calm regional tensions, but they have flared up since over territorial disputes with both China and Korea.
It's not known if Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit this year, but he has said he regrets not doing so during his first term in 2006.
The politicians were joined by dozens of ordinary citizens paying tribute to the 2.5 million Japanese who died in the war.

Jellyfish Eyes Official US Release Trailer (2015) - Japanese Fantasy HD
Takashi Murakami's feature-film debut is a loving homage to Japanese popular culture. When a young boy moves with his widowed mother to the Japanese countryside, he discovers that their apartment is inhabited by a strange creature—and that very little is what it appears to be in the sleepy town.
【When to travel to Japan】OLD shinto shrine on the mountain. (history of japan)
WHY NOT COME TO JAPAN?
no mistake in Japanese guidance by Japanes
Hodoriyama is a mountain in Nagatoro-cho, Chichibu-gun, Saitama. It has an altitude of 497.1m and has the Hotozan Shrine at the foot of the mountain.
The Hotozan Ropeway, which is erected to the middle, connects the total length of 832m from Sanroku Station to Summit Station in about 5 minutes.
There are plum gardens, rowby gardens, and Hotozan small animal park near Hotosan summit station.
Hotozan Shrine (Horanzan Shrine, Joyo Kanji font: Hotozan Shrine) is a shrine located at the foot of the Hotosan Mountain in Nagatoro-cho, Chichibu-gun, Saitama Prefecture. Formerly known as a prefectural shrine, it is currently a separate shrine at the main shrine office.
One of the three Chichibu companies along with the Chichibu and Mimine shrines. Okumiya (Okumiya) is enshrined on the summit of Hotosan.
According to the shrine, in 1974 (111), during the eastern expedition by the emperor's prince, Taketo Nihon, a giant dog came out and gave directions when the lord was heading for the worship. On the way, I saw a fiery fire coming from the northeast, and I couldn't move or retreat. Then the giant dog jumped into the fire and extinguished the fire, and the lord could safely climb to the top and worship. Takashi thanked him very much and suddenly disappeared. It is said that the name Houseyama was born from this, and later became Housouzan. He also learned that the giant dog was a god dog of Oyama Gin, worshiped the fire god for fire protection, and then built a shrine at the foot of the mountain to celebrate the three gods. This is allegedly our origin.
The Michelin Green Guide Japon (French version 2nd edition) issued in May 2011 was selected as one star.

Japan - Barber Has A Brush That's Strictly For The Birds

BARBER HAS A BRUSH THAT'S STRICTLY FOR THE BIRDS
Tokyo Eng Comm/music Duration: 1.26
Takashi Taniguchi is a barber in Tokyo and the first Japanese illustrator to receive a commission from the Smithsonian Institute in the United States. He learned how to cut hair from his father, but he learned the fine art of illustration on his own. Takashi is renowned for his ability to capture the life of the bird in his drawings. He's the author of a number of popular books and his work has proved extremely useful to field researchers, conservationists and bird-watchers. Tsutomu Ishikawa has been bird-watching for more than 15 years. He reckons the key feature of Takashi's books is that the birds are depicted as they appear in flight, which is of great help in distinguishing species. Koichiro Sonobe, a member of the Wild Bird Society of Japan, which last year invited Takashi to discuss his latest book, points out that a photograph rarely captures the distinctive features of any bird, making illustration a far better guide...when it is done so well. At the request of the Smithsonian, Takashi is now working on an illustrated book of wild birds native to the Indian sub-continent. Often he spends half a day producing a single drawing. Since some books require 1,000 illustrations, a single volume may take more than two years. The work of Takashi Taniguchi and other talented conservationists may be more important than we can yet know. With so many birds' habitats deteriorating, theirs may be the only true record for our descendants.

Don't Smoke in Japan
I was just relaxing outside of Toji Temple in Kyoto this afternoon and realized I was sitting in a smoking area. I got kick out of the English on the sign there!
Also, while at Toji Temple, I explored the large outdoor market there. It happens once a month and there are so many amazing things for sale. Everything from hand made pottery, kimonos, food, clothes, artwork, flowers, etc. I was really impressed by a guy who was selling hand made insects. Every one was so detailed and made from wood.
