The Yakuoin Temple, officially known as Takaosan Yakuoin Yukiji Temple, is one of the Daihonzan temples of the Chizan School of the Shingon sect. This temple, believed to have been built in 744 by Gyoki Bosatsu under decree from Emperor Shomu, is dedicated to the Medicine Bhudda, Yakushi Nyorai. This era, the Nara Period, was the most magnificent in ancient Japanese history. It was during this time that the Great Buddha Hall of the Todaiji Temple and other important historical structures were erected in Nara, and a provincial monastery, known as a Kokubunji, was established in each of Japan's 60-odd provinces. Gyoki Bosatsu played a central role in the construction of all these temples.

Fire-walking festival at Mt. Takao on March 8, 2015, Tokyo, Japan. Practitioners of Shugendo religion walk through a path of smoldering embers during the Hiwatari-matsuri at Takao-san Yakuo-in Yuki-ji Temple, Hachioji-shi, Tokyo. Shugendo's followers also called Yamabushi perform to receive protection from misfortune, and for good health and to pray for peace in the world. Visitors can participate at the end of the ceremony to receive the benefits. Shugendo is a unique Japanese religion that mixes Buddhism and ancient mountain worship. Mount Takao In Japan Japanology (高尾山 Takao-san)
Mount Takao (高尾山 Takao-san) is a mountain in the city of Hachiōji, Tokyo, Japan. It is protected within Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park.
Standing 599 metres (1,965 ft) tall and located within an hour of downtown Tokyo, it is a popular hiking spot, with eight hiking courses and more than 2.5 million annual visitors. The Tama Forest Science Garden is also located at the mountain's base.
Mount Takao is closely associated with tengu, minor kami from Japanese folklore, and the daitengu Naigubu. A Buddhist temple, Takaosan Yakuōin Yūkiji, is located on the mountain.

Kawasaki Daishi
Kawasaki Daishi Heikenji Temple belongs to the Chisan School of the Shingon sect of Buddhism. The temple is well known for its power of Yakuyoke (warding off evil), and is commonly called “Yakuyoke No Odaishi-sama” among the people of not only the Kanto area but nationwide. The grand head temple is Chishakuin in Higashiyama Shichijo, Kyoto. Along with Naritasan Shinshoji Temple (Narita City, Chiba) and Takao-san Yakuo-in Yuki-ji Temple (Hachioji City, Tokyo), Kawasaki Daishi is one of the biggest temples of the Chisan School of the Shingon sect.

November 30th, 2013 - Adventure Takaosan
It was a nice day on the 30th of November and okasan was busy so it was up to me and Wakako to find some adventure.
We headed out to Mt. Takao near Tokyo and made a day of it. Also got to eat some ice cream, ride a bike, eat an American dog, and eventually take a nap.
In the end she ended up sleeping for the night from around 4:00pm until the next day, but naturally she woke up at 4:00am ready to play...
Things to do around Takao Area
West Tokyo is full of great spots to explore: Mt. Takao, Jindaiji temple, Sanrio Puroland or the Hello Kitty Land and many others.
