Amazing Home Breaking Architecture Rules in Tokyo’s Center
We do not know if you guys recall, but we had some information on this project in a previous Freshome post. Today we are back with more pictures on its unusual architecture and with something extra regarding its interior design. The project is called “Reflection of Mineral” and belongs to Japanese architect Yasuhiro Yamashi from Atelier Tekuto. Located not far from the center of Tokyo, the contemporary 480 sq ft (44 sq m) residence breaks the architecture rules its surroundings. The amazing abstract shape was designed very efficiently, making use of the little space. Every angle of site brings with it a different view. The interior’s original shapes and dimensions are determined by the architecture and the arrangements had to be done accordingly. You can check out the final results in the pictures below. Enjoy!

House in Takatsuki
「十月桜の家/House in Takatsuki」
This property is located in a crowded residential district, with a parking lot on the west that is likely to be developed and a newspaper distribution center to the north that operates from early in the morning. Given those circumstances, we decided to design the house around a central courtyard and surround the property with walls, closing it off from the street.
To avoid pressing in too much on the narrow alley to the east, we kept the height as low as possible and placed the courtyard's autumn flowering cherry so it would be visible to people walking down the alley. The interior is minimalistic and breezy, even though we kept the number of doors low to ensure privacy.

Rotary Day_Rotary club of Takatsuki east_RID2660
On the day of the Autumnal Equinox, September 23rd 2014,
We held ROTARY DAY “Takatsuki Dream Bridge”.
Under a magnificent weather, more than 700 people including 20 invitees from geriatric health services facility, joined this event.
The event started with a Japanese drum performance by cheerful kids from Takatsuki Aiwa nursery school.
President NAKAGAWA made an opening speech, followed by greetings from Mr. Hiroaki Izumi, governor of ROTARY International district 2660 and Mr. Masayuki Yamamoto, vice mayor of Takatsuki city.
Haguruma-za, Takatsuki East Rotary club’s amateur theatre group which has celebrated their 20th anniversary, played KURODA-BUSHI and a prologue.
Takemi-kai, a Japanese folk dance group, performed Japanese folk dance and Japanese folk instrument, Zeni-daiko.
Irodori-kai, a Shamisen club, performed Japanese folk songs with Japanese traditional instruments, Shamisen and Shakuhachi.
After a short break, an outstanding Japanese drum performance was played by Gunge elementary school’s drum club, followed by a collaborated performance between the club and the audience.
Haguruma-za closed the individual performances with KUNISADA-CHUJI, an incredible performance polished and refined for the past 20 years.
The finale saw all the performers get on stage together and the ROTARY DAY event successfully came to an end.
Everyone in the hall, from kids to elders, enjoyed this wonderful 3 hours show. Needless to say that the ROTARY DAY “Takatsuki Dream Bridge” was a total success, making this year ROTARY International’s theme “LIGHT UP ROTARY” more real than ever.
