Say it with us! šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square
On June 18 2018, the City of Vancouver, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) announced šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énk Square as the new name for the plaza on the north side of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énk Square refers to a place where a cultural gathering occurs such as a wedding, funeral, naming, honouring, or coming of age ceremony. The name uses words in both local Indigenous languages: hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (the language of Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (the language of the Squamish Nation).

Please subscribe to the channel for exciting updates!
Olivier Leroux and Boris Maganic would like to share their trailer for Journeys of our Coast, a 360° mini series documenting Canada's West Coast Indigenous People's culture, traditions and life. The trailer teases at the four segments portrayed in each mini series - transportation, dance, traditions, and multi-cultural collaboration.
The first film will teach viewers about past and present indigenous transportation and the canoe, featuring North Vancouver's Tsleil-Waututh Nation & Takaya Tours.
The second film spotlights Alex Wells, 3-time world champion Hoop Dancer while Alex and his brother Daniel sing and perform amongst breathtaking outdoor scenery in their hometown of Mount Currie, where the Lil'wat Nation reside.
Their third film takes place at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler, BC. You'll learn about Squamish and Lil'wat traditions through interpretive dance and stories performed by members of the SLCC.
The fourth and final film features a live musical performance. Olivier & Boris place the viewer front and centre amidst the Standing Wave ensemble's live performance of When the Buffalo Went Away, written by Estonian composer Märt-Matis Lill, and sung by Lil'wat Nation's Russell Wallace.
