SleepOut.com Visits The Fort at Shella Beach
Lamu.org invited the SleepOut.com crew to take our work to Lamu along with a few good friends. We all stayed in a castle, on a beach, with a pool and lots of fun. We then brought the film crew from MNET/NusuNusu and fed them heavy doses of seafood, Kenyan wine and Swahili culture. Here's one of the great clips that came of it.
Big thanks to the team from Lamu.org, Mashariki Mix and MNET for their great work.

Ras Kitau beach
After an hour's walk through the African beach, you arrive here.
Behind the beach are the Takwa ruins, but this wild stretch of coastline is truly Robinson Crusoe and Castaway territory.
After the long, hot and dusty walk, it's a great place to collapse and savour complete isolation.
Shanga, Pate Island Archaeology circa 1980. Archive film 96113
Operation Drake - Shanga, Pate Island, Kenya 1978 to 1980, archaeological excavations. (Shanga is an important archaeological site, situated on the South-East coast of the island. It was excavated during an eight-year period, starting in 1980. The earliest settlement was dated to the 8th century, and the conclusion drawn from archaeological evidence (locally minted coins, burials) indicate that a small number of local inhabitants were Muslim, probably from the late 8th century onwards, and at least from the early ninth)
