The Tula snanam (Sacred bath in the Tula month) is observed across pilgrim towns in Kaveri's banks. Legends also has it that every year on Tulasankramana day Goddess Parvathi appears in the Kundike as the sacred Theerthodbhava. Also from Talakaveri, steps lead up to the nearby Brahmagri peak, The Sapta Maharishis are said to have performed a special yagna.. Tourists can enjoy a good view of the misty blue Brahmagiri hills .

Jeeva Nadi - Talakaveri in Kodagu - Suvarna news - Special
A small square tank or kundike has been erected on a hillside, at the place that is said to be the origin of river Kaveri. The Kaveri River originates as a spring feeding this tank, which is considered to be a holy place to bathe on Tula Sankramana (usually falling on October 17th or 18th). It is believed that on the day of the Tula Sankramana, at an auspicious moment, the holy Kaveri appears, and that her arrival is indicated by a sudden upsurge of the water in the pond. Taking bath in this spot on Tula Sankramana in October is considered very sacred.
The waters are then said to flow underground to emerge as the river some distance away. The temple has been renovated extensively by the state government in 2007.
There are temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganapathi at the source of Kaveri. As per the legend, the Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Maheshehwara gave appeared before sage Agastya at the holy Ashwantha tree near the temple.

At a distance of 9 km from Bhagamandala & 44 km from Madikeri, Talacauvery is the origin of the Cauvery River in Karnataka. It is situated on the slopes of the Brahmagiri mountain ranges near Bhagamandala at an altitude of 1276 m. It is one of the best places to visit in Coorg and is among prime place to visit on a Coorg trip.
At Talacauvery, there is a square tank called Cauvery Kundike or Brahma Kundike, which is considered to be the birth place of River Cauvery. Here, River Cauvery emerges as a perennial spring and disappears underground. River Cauvery again emerges at Nagathirtha near Bhagamandala and joins with Kannike and Sujyoti at Triveni Sangam. Bhagamandala is the meeting of three rivers and is also referred to as Triveni Sangam.

Talakaveri is the place that is generally considered to be the source of the river Kaveri. It is located by Brahmagiri hill (not to be confused with the Brahmagiri range further south) near Bhagamandala in Kodagu district, Karnataka, 1,276 m. above sea level. However, there is not a permanent visible flow from this place to the main rivercourse except during the Monsson.
The temple here is dedicated to Goddess Kaveramma. Other deities worshiped here are Lord Agasthiswara, which denotes the link between Kaveri and Sage Agasthya and Maha Ganapathi.
It is believed that Mayura Varma, and Narasimman the Kadamba King who ruled vast areas of southern and central India in the 4th Century A.D. brought Brahmins from Ahi Kshetra and put them in-charge of various temples in Tulu Nadu. Ahi Kshetra is mentioned in the Mahabharata as lying north of the Ganges, and as being the capital of Northern Panchala. It is apparently the Adisadra of Ptolemy, and its remains are visible near Ramnagar in Tahsil Aonla in Bareilly district.
The Brahmins who first landed in Shivalli in Tulunadu and then spread across 31 villages came to be known as Shivalli Brahmins or Tulu Brahmins. It is from Shivalli and Tulu Brahmins, that the priests of Talakaveri temple have come from.
