Why Ninh Binh (Vietnam) should be on the TOP of your travel bucket list
We decided to skip busy Ha Long Bay to explore Ninh Binh instead which has been described as Ha Long Bay on land. We have to say we have zero regrets. Ninh Binh turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our Vietnam trip.
We start this vlog off with a tour of our accommodation. Located right at the bottom of the Mua Caves we stayed at Hang Mua Ecolodge.
Hang Mua Ecolodge
Address: Khê Hạ, Ninh Xuân, Ninh Xuân, Hoa Lư, Ninh Bình 430000, Vietnam
With a tranquil view of the limestone caves to one side and rice fields on the other it made for an excellent accommodation in Ninh Binh for 5 days.
Once we were settled in it was time to climb the peak of the Hang Mua mountain where we could get a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
The next day we were picked up by our Ninh Binh private tour operator - Tommy’s Travel Service. Tommy is a Ninh Binh local unlike many of the other Ninh Binh tour operators and he organized an awesome schedule for us. If you're planning a visit to Ninh Binh Vietnam, we highly recommend Tommy's Travel Service. He's a real nice guy too!
Firstly we visited Trang An for a boat tour. This is also the former set for the Skull Island scenes from the King Kong Movie (which have since been removed, so we were lucky to have seen it). We were rowed through various caves and canals and saw amazing scenery unique to Ninh Binh. From the surrounding limestone caves to the complex water systems that ran between, we left with the most wonderful impression of Ninh Binh.
Ecotourism Trang An Boat Tour
Address: Tràng An, Ninh Xuân, Hoa Lư, Ninh Bình 431995, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7AM–4PM
Following the tour of Trang An we head over to visit two tombs of former emperors of Hue followed by lunch then Phat Diem Cathedral which is a unique cathedral that has a mixture of both Vietnamese and Gothic French architecture.
Phat Diem
Address: TT. Phát Diệm, Kim Sơn District, Ninh Bình Province 430000, Vietnam

Day 2 in Hanoi, Vietnam: Hoa Lu-Tam Coc | Ninh Binh | The Note Coffee
The Hoa Lu - Tam Coc Day is an exciting adventure through natural and cultural landmarks.
Ninh Binh Tam Coc -- Our FAVORITE Place in Vietnam! // Travelling Full Time
NINH BINH || TAM COC || TRANG AN || MUA CAVES || BAI DINH PAGODA || BOAT TOUR || BICH DONG PAGODA
This is the BEST place in Vietnam!
We arrived in the middle of the night after a long bus ride from Ha Long Bay (check out our Ha long Bay vlog if you haven't yet).
It was dark and quiet...we knew we were in a small farming village. We went to bed, and the next morning we woke up with views of the rice fields and the mountains surrounding us. It was January, so the rice fields were brown but it didn't take away from the beauty.
After breakfast, we grabbed a scooter and went to Mua Caves, Trang An Boat Tour, and Bai Dinh Pagoda. This was the highlight of our trip in Vietnam. All 3 of these places were incredible in their own way.
Although a day trip from Hanoi is do-able, we recommend staying for at least 2 nights to truly enjoy this place. It felt like we stepped back in time...we were in a fairy tale. We also recommend going to Bich Dong Pagoda if you have the time.
We stayed at Tam Coc Riverside Homestay, and had a wonderful time.

Watch Out at Tam Coc Rowers Ninh Binh - Travel Vietnam
If you're in Ninh Binh, you have to go to Tam Coc and take a boat tour through the caves, with the feet rowers, but BEWARE! You will come up against some floating hawkers at the halfway point and they can at times be rather insistant.
But don't let that put you off, because we didn't and we had an absolutely amazing experience with the Tam Coc rowers Ninh Binh.
So once we finished climbing the Dragon at Mua Caves Ninh Binh, we hopped on the Honda Wave and headed down to Tam Coc Village.
The day remained overcast and even got wetter as went it on, but this didn't make our experience any less amazing.
We have seen a number of stunning sights during our Vietnam travel so far and the the scenery here in Ninh Binh and Tam Coc is spectacular. This activity is a definite must do if you are in the area.
We'd love it if you liked and shared this video, so others who haven't yet heard of us, also get a chance to share in the experience. Thanks :)

We are Leon and Tash, a New Zealand vlogging couple who set off on an amazing Vietnam adventure as fulltime travellers, backpacking Vietnam. But we weren't going to travel to Vietnam for one of those ordinary backpacking Vietnam trips you hear about everybody doing, where they go for a couple off weeks and check out the beaches or maybe riding through Vietnam at such a crazy pace that they never get off the beaten track. No we want more than that.
Our Vietnam adventures start with learning the way of the locals, taking just enough time to figure out how things work, discover what the Must see places in Vietnam are and more importantly where Vietnam's hidden gems are...
To do this, we moved to Danang Vietnam. The plan was to spend 3 months living in Da Nang, meeting and learning from locals about the culture, the amazing food, their way of living and what places they would recommend to travel in Vietnam.
And because Danang is in the middle of the country, we hoped we might meet other tourists or expats who were having their own Vietnam travel adventure or were at the halfway point of motorcycle riding through Vietnam and hear from them, what places they thought we must visit in Vietnam. Also, as new travel vloggers, having a base there meant we could try things like doing Da Nang Vietnam travel vlog or creating a Danang Vietnam travel guide, before also taking on the stresses of fulltime travel.
Then in month 4, that's when the real Vietnam adventure begins. With our new list of must see places, we will head to Saigon and buy a couple of motorbikes. to start our Vietnam road trip!
Motorcycle riding through Vietnam seems like one of the most hectic, crazy and chaotic things anyone could do, but we can't wait!! And we wont be following a simple South to North / Saigon to Hanoi route, we plan on doing more like a figure 8, so that our travel in Vietnam will cover both the inland and coastal areas of this amazing country.
So can we still say we are backpacking Vietnam? Or should we be telling people our travel in Vietnam is a motorcycle trip through Vietnam? We're not sure, but what we do know is, our Vietnam road trip is going to cover over 6000km's from Saigon right up to the famous waterfalls of Ban Gioc near Cao Bang, round the northern point of the Ha Giang loop and everything else we can access in between. So we hope you'll join us, the New Zealand vlogging couple, on our Vietnam adventure by clicking subscribe to join the Tribe and experience our travel in Vietnam..

NINH BINH - TRANG AN IS A MUST SEE!! (Vietnam)
Straight up. Ninh Binh amazed us. Mostly Trang An, which is an unbelievable journey through one of the most beautiful landscapes we have ever seen. We heard many times how Tam Coc is the main draw in Ninh Binh and as soon as we arrived that was our plan.
Once we started talking to a few people they told us we should check out the alternative option; Trang An. It is less expensive, a better experience, less touristy, and overall just way better. We thought we should check it out and we weren't disappointed.
This day was up there around one of our favorite days yet on our entire trip. If you find yourself in Vietnam, a trip to Ninh Binh is definitely worth it and make sure you go check out Trang An.
This is the start of our journey to pursue a life fulfilling our travel passions while we document the ups and downs of embracing the 'location independent', remote working - digital nomad - lifestyle.

Hoa Lu Tam Coc, Ninh Binh Vietnam, Day trip to Ninh Binh HD
With its numerous national parks, white sand beaches, colourful villages, pagodas and ancient monuments, forests and islands, Vietnam is a land of often surprising beauty, offering cultural depth and history, increasingly combined with tourism-friendly areas offering all the facilities a modern traveller could wish for.
Vietnam’s people are its greatest asset: gregarious, friendly and eager to meet visitors. In the bustling cities, the often chaotic streets contrast ox carts with limousines, ancient rituals with sophisticated technology, and are ruled by the ubiquitous moped.
Our strength is in translating these opportunities into detailed, practical itineraries. We do luxury travel and event planning, as well as a wide range of beach, family, honeymoon, adventure, golf, veteran and cultural tours.
There is no better way to experience a destination than through the perspective of the local people. At Water Puppet Tours, this key element of local insight drives every step of our process of tour design and delivery. We provide tailor-made tours individually crafted for each client, achieving this by emphasizing the direct working relationship between the client and the tour designer and operator.

Skok w bok na rok - Vietnam - Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Tam Coc e21.
After Malaysia we arrived in Vietnam where we met with our friend and together visited Hanoi and Ninh Binh (a small city in the Red River Delta of northern Vietnam).
Vietnam South to North, Hoi An, Dalat, Hanoi, Tam Coc, Halong Bay
We spent around 3 weeks in Vietnam starting in Ho Chi Minh City. Which was could only be described as organised chaos!
Great lively city and worth spending a day or two there. My Mavic Pro drone pretty much died so I was torn on wether to get another one or not as I was getting such great footage by using it. So I finally found the only Mavic in Vietnam, which was literally at the other end of the country in Hanoi. They refused to send it down so I went on a crazy mission and took a uber bike, a flight and taxi to get this thing. Walking up to the address I was given, I really wasn't sure if it was going to be there or not... Next minute I walk through the door and she immediately knows the Mavic Pro was for me. Picked it up, had a quick look around Hanoi old town and jumped on the plane back to HCMC.
Our next stop was a place called Mui Ne which is on the coast. We heard about these amazing coloured sand dunes which are great for sunrise and sunset. Definitely a must while you are there. Also some great kite surfing if you're into that.
After that we continued to our next destination Dalat. It reminded me of the french alps a little bit. Perched up in the colder mountains inland Vietnam. Due to the perfect climate for growing anything, most of the flowers, fruit, vegetables and coffee comes from this region. Which is then trucked into local markets far and wide. The crazy house and maze bar are high on the list of things to do. We only had one full day so we took full advantage of it and did a motorbike tour which took us to all the most important areas while taking a scenic ride. (We went with easy riders Dalat)
Next we took a flight to Hoi An, as we heard the road and bus trip was horrific. A magical little town situated by a river which lights up at night with your classic Vietnamese lanterns to create the most amazing ambience and feeling to the town. When we arrived we knew were going to stay longer than we planned. We managed to fit in a local cooking class and learnt a few tricks. We took a tour up to place called My Son, pretty much described as the smaller version of Angkor Wat in Cambodia(alot smaller). So don't go here if you have been to Angkor Wat. Most nights were spent heading into the old town by bike to soak up the night life and stroll around to see whats going on.
We decided it was finally time to ride a motor bike in Vietnam as most people do at some stage. What a great time to do this from Hoi An to the next biggest town Hue. The road is famous for the ride and especially for the Hai Van Pass! With its spectacular scenery twists and turns taking you into the clouds of Vietnam. Taking the whole day we finally arrived in Hue knowing we were flying out that night as we wanted to make our way to Hanoi.
Landing in Hanoi the capital of Vietnam.
I kinda knew what to expect briefing visiting to grab my drone. I knew it was like most capital cities. I suggest you stay near the Ho Hoan Kiem Lake, thats where most of the action is, especially try and be there on a Sunday, so much going on!
Next stop was the famous Halong Bay! Ahh Halong Bay... What a magical place but ruined by alot of the tour operators here. Basically you read and hear alot of the stories of people getting ripped off, put on different boats and sold something they didn't buy. I won't go into too much detail but it happened to us and there's not much you can do about it. The only thing I can suggest if you are trying to save money take the local ferry over to Cat Ba Island and just do some sort of day tour from there. Or pay at least $350-$700 for a reputable company who do great tours.
After our tour we headed south to Tam Coc. I think this was my favourite place as I love massive chaotic mountains filled with bright green rice patties in between. Make sure you stay the night and jump on a boat around 8-9am before the crowds arrive. We basically had the whole place to ourselves. Also try and get up to Hoa Lu temple, there around 600 steps leading up to the top of a mountain with incredible views and a massive dragon!
We decided not to do Sapa region as it was rainy at the time and we heard a few bad things about going up there to do treks while its raining. So we thought its finally time to relax a little bit and head back to Thailand, Koh Chang and find an island to chill till we finally head off looking for jobs in the Mediterranean.

Beautiful Landscapes around Ninh Binh
After a few days in Sapa I came back to Hanoi, pimped my motorbike and drove to Ninh Binh. I stayed in a really nice Hostel called Tam Coc Garden Homestay. The landscapes around that place were amazing.
Shot on Canon 750D, GoPro Hero 3 and DJI Mavic.
Sound by Ikson.
