Tam-an Village, a microcosm of the Ifugao Way of Life

We.Are.Wanderful
MARCH 22, 2017—It's Marielle and Johan's first time in Banaue (and in Ifugao for that matter) and we are quire excited to explore the Eight Wonder of the World. But it's been raining since we arrived the previous day and the whole of Banaue is blanketed in clouds. It is beautiful, actually, and it is what we woke up to earlier this morning.
We are supposed to visit some of the rice terraces around in and around Banaue town proper but we are marooned by the continuous rains. We asked for options from the guest relations desk of Banaue Hotel (where we are staying) and we were told that there is this Ifugao village just behind the hotel, called Tam-an.
Tam-an Village is walking distance from Banaue Hotel—228 steps to be exact, albeit the steps are downhill and are quite steep. The access is right by the hotel's back door.
The rain turns out to be a blessing in disguise for us. Not only did we get to visit a rice terraces up close, we also got some serious cultural immersion in the customs, culture, and traditions of the Ifugaos.
This is a short video presentation of our visit to Tam-an Village. Enjoy watching.

Best Place to Stay in Banaue | Ifugao, Philippines |
Vlog 5
If you are planning to visit Banaue, Ifugao at the mountainous region of Cordillera, I suggest you stay at Hiwang Native Inn and Viewdeck. There are other native inns at the area, but Hiwang offers the best view of rice terraces and gives amazing Ifugao cultural experience.
Their rate is Php 1,500 for an overnight stay. We suggest to bring food since the village is quite far from any restaurant/market.

Banaue Drone Footage - Philippines Vlog
I shot some epic drone footage in Banaue and got seriously lost in the rice terraces here in the Philippines today.
I'm on Instagram at
It was another Philippines travel vlog today. I'm still absolutely loving my time here, and having a blast exploring the country.
On this episode of the vlog, I head out on a hike through the rice terraces and villages around Banaue. This part of the Philippines is full of rice terraces, and lots of associated villages. Many of these villages are only accessible by foot. I decided to hike between a couple of them today. Both Tam-an and Poitan were places I stopped in. On the way, I also filmed some pretty epic Banaue drone footage with my Phantom 4.
Of course, my adventure in Banaue wasn't without misadventure. I managed to get lost in the rice terraces after flying the drone the first time and ended up completely covered in mud from the wander off the main trail between Tam-am and Poitan. It wasn't until later that I realized that it would have been a great idea to use the drone to scout out the trail.
As has been the case in many of these Philippines vlogs, the weather wasn't on my side again today. Upon returning to Banaue the rain punched back through the valley killing my plans to head up and work the drone at the Banaue rice terraces as well as get some photos. Hopefully on the vlog tomorrow I'll be able to head that way and get some images.
I have a couple more days here in Banaue, so expect a little bit more epic drone footage from this part of the Philippines.
I have a month in the Philippines, so there's still loads of cool content from this country on my 2017 trip coming.
