Powhiri - Welcome ceremony at Tamaki Maori Village, Rotorua, New Zealand
A pōwhiri is a Māori welcoming ceremony involving speeches, dancing, singing and finally the hongi. It is used to both welcome guests onto a marae. The wero, an aggressive challenge of the visitor at the beginning of the ceremony, is the most spectacular part of the pōwhiri. During this part of the ceremony, Māori warrior will advance cautiously towards the guests with ceremonial weapons, and perform threatening gestures and grimaces, calling out battle screams, and generally giving an impression of being ready to explode into violence against the visitors at any moment.

The Maori welcome ritual at Tamaki Maori Village, Rotorua, New Zealand
This is part of the te wero (the challenge), where tribal warriors perform intimidating gestures whilst sizing up the visitors during the welcome ritual, to decide if they've come in war or in peace. A real spectacle. 456grtyh567hertyh7i;
AMAZING MITAI MAORI VILLAGE ROTORUA | Maori Cultural Show in Rotorua and Te Puia Geothermal Park
One of the highlights that you can do in Rotorua, New Zealand, is a visit to the Mitai Maori Village - a must Maori Tour in Rotorua!
Although the South Island gets a lot of attention for its adventure activities. I think the North Island is equally as amazing.
South Island = Tectonic
North Island = Geothermic
See some of the geothermal activity at Te Puia in Rotorua and then visit the Mitai Maori Village with me for an evening of entertainment.
If you get the chance to check this out, you'll see how incredible the night is. Plus, you get the chance to participate in a Q&A at the end where your Maori host will answer your questions about what it's like to live as a Maori person in New Zealand.
It really is quite an intimate and personal experience.

Tamaki Maori Village - Rotorua, New Zealand ( Hangi Preparation)
Hāngi (Māori pronunciation: [ˈhaːŋi]) is a traditional New Zealand Māori method of cooking food using heated rocks buried in a pit oven. It is still used for special occasions.
To lay a hāngi or put down a hāngi involves digging a pit in the ground, heating stones in the pit with a large fire, placing baskets of food on top of the stones, and covering everything with earth for several hours before uncovering (or lifting) the hāngi
22nd Jan 2018 TAMAKI MAORI VILLAGE Rotorua
The Tamiki Maori Village experience out of Rotorua was awesome, we got a real fee for how the traditional Maori Village was set up and also had a Hungi feast. I got to do the Haka again, and it wasn't any better second time round, I can't poke out my tongue and bulge my eyes like those Bro's, and the co-ordination is poor in comparison, but Karen had a good laugh at my expense as I did with the pole catching game she played.
